Purpose

This template used as a notice that explains archived talk pages. It lets other users know that the archive is only for history and provides a link to the current talk page.

Usage

To use this template, type:

    {{Archive|Page Name (optional) |Name space (optional) }}

  • Page Name — Changes the link in "current talk page" to a different talk page. For example, if {{Archive|Bomb}} is used on Talk:Main Page/Archive 1, then the "current talk page" line will link to Talk:Bomb instead of Talk:Main Page. If left blank, this defaults to the current talk page of the archive (i.e. Talk:Main Page for Talk:Main Page/Archive 1).
  • Name Space — Changes the namespace of the linked page in the "current talk page" line. For example, entering {{Archive|Infobox Item|Template talk}} on "Talk:Main Page/Archive 1" will link to Template talk:Infobox Item instead of "Talk:Main Page." This parameter is usually used at the same time as "Page Name." Leaving this blank will default to whatever the namespace of the current talk page is.

Together, the options "Page Name" and "Name Space" are used if you would like the archive template to link to another talk page other than the article's talk page. If the article is just a normal article or is on a subpage, then only {{Archive}} needs to be typed. Note that linking to an article (on the main namespace) cannot be done as one would expect by typing "main" or leaving it empty, however one usually wouldn't be doing that.

When using this template, put it at the very first line of the page, separated by a blank line before the messages start. If other templates are used on the page, separate them with a space from the Archive template as well. For example:
