The ZUHC was based off of another project, called the HAHC.  The HAHC is short for Humulation Army Holiday Cards.  The project was introduced by Zien to ZU in October, 2008.  The project was shut down because it got little to no support from other Humulation Army members.  In November, 2008, Zien tried again, but this time made the project focus of Zelda Universe.net.  Again, the thread got little to no support, so the project was shut down.  Zien, now almost hopeless, came across the Plaza thread in ZU.  He read it, and noticed that he could get support if he was to post there first.  Margar, a forum mod, came across the thread, and was the first to support the project.  Zien made many advertisements of member profiles, but only five replied back with support.  Afterwards, Zien made the new ZUHC project thread in the community section, and the ZUHC HQ thread in the hidden Community Coordinators (ZU) section.  Later, Steve arrive to give the project support, and was made a ZUHC card designer.  A little later, the team discovered it needed one last person, someone to color the card by using computer programs.  Zien the picked Ŧim to join the team, and become the final ZUHC staffer.

Revision as of 00:12, 17 January 2010

This page is a collection of the miscellaneous content which has made itself a name throughout the Zelda Universe community.

Arcade

The Zelda Universe Arcade is a project led by GoldStud. The project is still being worked on. Power Shot said that if five games are made, and are at least in their demo mode, then the arcade will become official. The link to the arcade will be on Zelda Universe's home page, under "Interactive". Zelda Universe has a social Group for anyone who wants to help.[1] Goldstud is looking for anyone who has a demo of a game to put on ZU. So, if anyone has such a demo, or demos, send a message or PM to GoldStud (done so here).

How Can I Help

The Zelda Universe Arcade needs more games, and more support. Anyone can give such things by visiting the social group. Even if you are not a game designer, you can still provide suggestions for a game designer to put in the game.

1337 Admin Panel

File:Admin panel.png
The 1337 admin panel as of 21st of august, 2005

The 1337 Admin Panel was made by KokiriKid for Peefy. It's an actual quote from the chat where Peefy pretended that he was one of the admins (as he often does due to his arrogant attitude). The page was mostly created for the joke, but was also suggested to be used if anyone else wanted access to the admin panel.

This page is not commonly known, although Peefy links to it in his signature and talks about it now and then. There is no reason it still exists outside of novelty purposes.

Some members in the past have rumoured that Kokiri Kid is going to add some features to the panel in the future.

Functions

 • One can highlight words and/or sentences
 • One can copy the text into the clipboard
 • One can read it (both forwards, backwards and inbetween)
 • It contains a clock that is right two times a day
 • It also contains a quote from the chat

Zelda Universe Administrator

File:Admin (ZU).gif
ZU's Admin banner.

Administrators of Zelda Universe are the most vital part of the community. The administrators are those select few users who show their extreme dedication to the site and/or the forums and go that extra step to ensure the site is kept in order.

Administrators have the same powers as Super Mods, which are editing, deleting, moving, and locking threads, as well as warning and banning any members who break the Rules of ZU. They also have the ability to alter any aspect of the forums, including layout, user names, bandwidth settings, IP bans, etc.

Admins are the second highest on the power command of ZU, one step underneath Webmasters.

Current Administrators

How do I become an Administrator?

Administrators are selected for a promotion by the lead webmaster from other high ranking positions such as Super Mod or Site Staff. Asking to become a admin will lower any chances there were of you becoming a admin.

Adoption (ZU)

Zelda Universe's adoption system, originally started by Lioness and currently located in the Adoption Cottage thread in the New Members Board, gives new members the opportunity to have a personal mentor and friend. These "adopters" give advice when their "adoptees" make mistakes, help them feel more comfortable being in a large forum if need be, answer their adoptees' questions (this is great if an adoptee is too shy to ask someone else), as well as be one of their first friends on ZU.[2]

How do I become an adopter[3]

To become an approved adopter on ZU, the following must all apply to you:

 • You must have a minimum of 50 posts in your post count (posts in forums that do not add to your post count, such as clan boards, do not count)
 • You must have been a member of ZU for at least 3 full months
 • You must have adequate conventions (spelling, punctuation, and grammar) throughout your posts
 • Your posts must be detailed and not spammy

Once you think you apply to adopter's guidelines, PM Kasuto, The Bex Express, or Margar stating why you believe you would make a good adopter.

B.A. Council

ZU's B.A. Council banner.

The B.A. (The Battle Arena) and The Escapists' Haven on Zelda Universe are run by the B.A. Council. The council decides all character approval guidelines and conducts approvals; runs BA-specific events, such as annual awards, tournaments, and the like; and some Councilors are also "teachers," working to improve members' writing abilities and role playing.

Current B.A. Council Members

Retired members of the B.A. Council:

Additional Council members are elected by the current Councilors. Users are allowed to request to be councilors by contacting one of the current ones, but new Councilors are rare and must have shown lots of contributions to the Battle Arena

Cap'n vs. Jew

File:Cornflakebrawl.jpg
CONFIRMED FOR BRAWL

In March 24th 2008 ZeldaInformer's owner and webmaster Captain Cornflake posted a challenge of epic proportions to the Zelda Universe forums, daring ZU owner and webmaster Jason to face him in a game of Super Smash Bros. Brawl to settle their differences once and for all. The challenge was accepted and soon people from both sites started pouring into the thread posting various questions, rumors, propaganda and taking sides on the fight. To make matters more interesting they set a bet of $100 $250! $450!! $4750!!! CAPN'S CAR!!!!! $10,000!!!!!!! ZI and ZU.

Excitement was in the air as their debate in the thread (soon dubbed the greatest in ZU's history) progressed towards the final settlement of date (March 29th) and the actual bet of both ZI and ZU.

Cap'n won.

The initial challenge from Cap'n

"The time has come Jason. Your time has come.

I am absolutely sick and tired of your condescending additude towards ZeldaInformer and myself. I was hoping we could perhaps patch up ties after you took over ZU from Yusuf and put behind us this petty rivalry, but I think it's quite apparent by your behavior as of late that this will never be able to happen. I've now realized that the commercial priorities from the days of Yusuf are just as alive and well as ever under your management, Jason. And Zelda Universe will always remain a joke to the rest of the community because of that.

And you're afraid. Afraid an upstart is going to take your glory. Well, we don't need to wait for that to happen, I can solve that issue right now. It's time we settle this once and for all.

You. Me. 1 on 1. Smash Bros. Brawl. The only way we'll ever be able to settle who is the best webmaster and who has the better site is by me wiping your ass across the floor. I'll even let you pick the stage, I'm that confident I can take you."

Best ZU thread ever? Oh the DRAMA!

Many users awarded the thread "greatest ever" despite the fact that a certain member constantly attempted to stir up unwanted drama over petty matters. The community kindly asked him to leave and eventually to GTFO. The mod team did the right thing and removed all of the unwanted posts from the otherwise epic thread.

THE BET - $10,000. Ten thousand dollars. A big bag of jewmoney.
Jason
I'm placing my bets. Capn's SO going to put this Jew in the oven!
Link
I think, deep down all of us want Capn to take over ZU.
Hazz
Gah! My alliances are tied in this battle... Jewson, one who shares the pain of jewnoses! Or Captain Cornflake, the one who opened my eyes to the internets!
Kikz
The Capn' will win. That's a no-brainer.
— Blizzaga
I'm an idiot.
— God of Butthurt
If anyone even TRIES to run the 8ball command asking about this one, I will propagate through the internets and DESTROY EVERYTHING. I HATE YOU ALL

Chat Room

The Zelda Universe chat room is an IRC room connected to the ZU community. It can be found on the Gnug-IRC network on #zelda.

Despite being connected to the ZU community, Zelda is actually very rarely discussed. Instead, the topics will vary from anything, such as general gaming to music to forum drama to, well... whatever, really.

Along with the ZeldaInformer chat (whom #zelda folk are often intermingled with) the Zelda Universe chat room is one of the largest Zelda-related chat rooms on the internet.

History

The Zelda Universe chatroom/IRC channel was created in July 2003 by Lozzie, originally residing on EFNet. Eventually, it was moved to the TAUniverse IRC server, which nowadays goes by Gnug-IRC.

Connecting

If you'd like to connect, Google for an IRC client. And yes, for the mac/linuxtards, there are clients for almost every OS. Hell, if you have 'telnet' you can connect.

Once you'd downloaded your IRC client, follow these steps:

1) In the main window, click in the text box. Type "/server irc.gnug.org" (without the quotes.)
2) If you haven't chosen a nickname/other details, type "/nick yournick", without the quotes. yournick would be the nickname you want.
3) You'll get a flood of text. Sometimes, you may get a prompt showing channels. Type "#zelda". If not, type "/join #zelda".
4) Voila!

Alternatively, you can use ZU's webchat applet (located here).

Clans of the Goddesses

The neutrality of this article or section is disputed.
Please see the relevant discussion on the article's talk page.

Template:Sources Note: Zelda Universe is currently holding a project where the clan articles for this page are being written. You can find the project here.

At Zelda Universe there are clans that the majority of members are divided into. The Farore Clan, the Din Clan, and the Nayru Clan. Each clan represents different personalities and strengths. Analogous to the Goddesses the Clans are named after, Farore stands for Courage, Din for Power, and Nayru for Wisdom. The Clans also each have their own color, which also represents the Goddess they are named after: green for Farore, red for Din, and blue for Nayru. The Clan mods put members in the clan that they think the member best fits into, unless the member in question could fit into two or three different clans, in which case they are allowed to pick. Joining a clan is not mandatory, but is a common and fun practice of Zelda Universe's members. The Clan Forums, in which games and pointless discussions are often had, are more laid back and less strict than other boards. The Clan Arena is where battles, games and competitions of talent occur between the three clans.

The Farore Clan

ZU's Farore Clan banner of Courage.

Template:Sectstub

The Farore Clan is known for holding popular/"cool" members. The Farore Clan has an environment of its own. It is not as different as Nayru, but also not as hot-headed as Din. Most of the members of this clan enjoy hanging out in the safety of the Utopia for many reasons, the main one being the many 'interesting' conversations that take place daily. Each year, the Farorians have been known to throw a party to celebrate Christmas, as well as many other occasions, such as this year, in which they threw a newbie party for all new Farore members. Of all the clans, you are most likely to find that Farore has the kindest members on ZU. They are a wonderful, friendly bunch, but do not be alarmed if you are greeted with something...well, alarming. Farorean/Farorians tend to be quite unpredictable. Of course, if you're a Dinnie visiting, you may not live long until you come face-to-face with Poe Black's flame thrower... Farore's moderator is DK.

Farore generally has Pepsi everyday and members of the clan are nice to each other, but if you try to invade Farore, watch your back. Farore is fun loving and always active, with its RPG thread and a thread dedicated to spam. It is full of love and kindness - in the Utopia, Farorians like to share what they've been through. Farore holds very talented people, amusing people, caring people and all other sorts.

The Din Clan

ZU's Din Clan banner of the Clan of Power.

Template:Sectstub Also known as the Clan of Power, the Din Clan has a reputation for pyromania and a love of blowing stuff up. The fact that several of its members have been known to loudly proclaim their apparent lack of sanity has added to this reputation, although there is some speculation that Nayrulian propaganda is at the heart of its harsher aspects. However, many members of the Clan itself - commonly referred to as Dinnies - would be quick to belittle any efforts made by the "jellyfish," otherwise known as Clan Nayru.

The second defining characteristic of Clan Din is its friendly rivalry with the jellyfish. This rivalry stretches back far enough that few, if any, can remember its origins, or even if there was any origin as such - as far as most members are concerned, the two Clans clash simply because it's what they do.

Din is ruled over by Lord Tiroth and Pani, while past moderators have included the Great Lioness and her predecessor, Tristann Velorei.

The Nayru Clan

ZU's Nayru Clan banner of the Imperium.

The Nayrulian Empire, also known as the Nayru Clan, the Imperium of Nayru, or just Nayru for short, is known for its tight-knit yet welcoming community, friendly[citation needed] rivalry with Din, and megalomaniac Clan mod (Emperor SacredSturgeon of Nayru), as well as being the Clan that all three of ZU's Webmasters are from (thus, technically, making it more powerful than its rival Din, something the Emperor is fond of pointing out). Nayru was known for a long time as "The Clan of Pervyness" or "the Pervy Clan", because sexual topics would often pop up, and Nayru's moderation when it comes to such topics is more liberal than that of the other two Clans. Nayru has cut back significantly on such topics in more recent times however, following complaints from members, though Nayru's moderation stance towards these topics is still more lenient than that of the other Clans.

Nayru contains many members that have been with the Clan for ages, and several of them hardly (if ever) leave the blessed grounds of the Imperium because they love their Clan so much. Despite being closely knit, the Children of the Empire are generally welcoming to both new members and visiting members that aren't from Nayru. For example, the Nayrulians generally regretted it when Site Staff members could no longer access Clans, because they enjoyed visits from such members as Rew.

Nayru has a proud history, having grown from a small group of rag-tag members to a full-fledged Empire. In its early days, it was looked over by various mods, including Lozzie (Now known as James), Jason (now known as Jason), and Malony. Lady Miniblin the Great officially took over the reigns on August 28, 2005, and has been the beloved leader of the Clan for a long time, until finally stepping down on April 21, 2007, to the collective grief of the Clan. Her reign saw Nayru grow strong and proud and become an active and tight-knit community, and she will be remembered as a great mod and considered an awesome member by her former subjects. The next day heralded the announcement of who was to succeed her. Her legacy being impressive as it is, it was decided that she needed not one, but two successors, and these successors were SacredSturgeon and Awkin.

Nayru has, at various points, gone through rough spots, troubles, as well as periods of inactivity, but the dedication and spirit of its members have ensured that Nayru has always pulled through, and the Clan continues going strong to this very day. Nayru also seems to have the biggest variety and talent of digital artists.

How do I join a Clan, and do I have to?

It is entirely optional to join a clan; however, it is a fun thing to do. To join a clan you must have been a member of Zelda Universe for at least one month, and have made a minimum of 50 posts in the forums.[5] Once these qualifications are met, send a Private Message to a Super Mod requesting the Clan Test. They will then send you the Clan Test, where you must respond to multiple-choice, short answer, and long answer questions. Based on your answers to these questions, the Super Mod will place you into a clan, giving you access to your clans forum, and the Clan Arena.

Community Coordinators

ZU's Community Coordinators banner.

Community Coordinators on Zelda Universe are in charge of community events within the community of Zelda Universe.net. They are given the shiny orange banner shown to the left.

Current Community Coordinators

 • Bex
 • Bretski
 • Dog Dog 123
 • Elder Blizz
 • Jodd
 • Lady
 • Mattocks
 • Mrs. Kassi Aileron
 • Nolan
 • Nénuë
 • Risika
 • Shigeru
 • Steve
 • Zien

How do I become a Community Coordinator?

Community Coordinators are the people running a community project or those whom the lead webmaster feels do a good job controlling the community. If you are doing a big project for Zelda Universe, ask the head webmaster for a Community Coordinator banner. This banner is only kept whilst you are still running the community project. It is lost once the project is over.

Couples of ZU

ERROR: No image specified. Please specify an image. Some of the most influential people in the Zelda Universe community are no doubt the pairs of members who have fallen in love with each other. There are a number of active ZU couples today, and below is a list of the current pairs of ZU lovers. Read about them to find out how they met and how they fell in love. All are devoted Zelda fans and gamers as well.

Buzz and Sugarpoultry

File:SugarP, Buzz, & Kadree.jpg
(left to right):Buzz, Kadree, & SugarP.

More than likely the most well-known ZU couple, Buzz and Sugarpoultry are also notable for being the first ZU couple who actually have gotten married in real life. They met in their college years in band class and were friends for awhile. Although Buzz had a girlfriend at the time, he was slowly developing feelings for Sugarpoultry. Eventually, he broke up with his old girlfriend and Sugarpoultry became his. A nice note about this is that Buzz was Sugarpoultry's first and only boyfriend. Years went by and the two were eventually married! Now, they have a child, a lovely little girl named Kadree. They have shown pictures of both them and Kadree many times for us to see!

Darius Andreas and Lady Ranny

There's an interesting story behind what brought these two together. One of the Farore Clan's three couples (Kassi and Lex and Deku Queen and Shigeru being the other two), Darius Andreas and Lady Ranny had known one another for quite a long time until they officially became bf/gf. They did not meet in ZU, rather in another Zelda forum, around 2.75 years ago (this is just an estimate, as neither Darius nor Ranny remember exactly when they met). Over time they became best friends and continued as such for the past couple of years. When Ranny met another member, Raddy, she grew close to him and they began to fall in love just a couple months or so after meeting. As a result, Darius grew a bit...well, jealous, and proclaimed his love for Ranny. Prior to this, however, Ranny learned that another girl was in love with Raddy and that he also liked her quite a lot. Later, when Darius asked Ranny to be his girlfriend, Ranny realized she also loved him, and soon accepted. She has known Darius much longer than Raddy, and knew she loved him first; she simply didn't realize it until then. Ranny and Darius both continue to greatly thank Raddy for indirectly "playing cupid." The two now have a fanclub for all DariusxRanny supporters to join!

Lex and Kassi

Although Mr. Lexxi Aileron and Mrs. Kassi Aileron are a Farorian couple like Darius Andreas and Lady Ranny as well as Shigeru and Deku Queen, the story behind them is almost opposite. The two met only a month before Lex asked Kassi to marry him. The official date of their marriage is not yet known, but they're working on it! Like Darius Andreas and Lord Ranny, these two also have a fanclub for their supporters. Lex's favorite game series just so happens to be Zelda as well. The page creator will be editing this section.

Ja-kun and Liah

Hehe, these two are probably best known as ZU's graphics couple. Both are good sig makers who are active in Graphics Design. Liah and Ja-kun have known each other for quite some time, and they both met in person. The page creator will be editing this section.

Blind Swordsman and Sarah

These two have not been seen for awhile, but they're still a couple worth remembering. They met quite sometime ago (like Darius Andreas and Lord Ranny), and after falling in love, they eventually met in person for a good week. Sarah made a thread for the pictures they took. Not much more is known now that neither of these two members have been active lately.

Fox McCloud and Nenue

Fox McCloud and Nenue were the second couple to marry after Buzz and Sugarpoultry. They, however, had started as an on-off relationship. They met in ZU's chatroom in 03, where they quickly bonded. But, due to heavily interwined emotions and overlooking differences between themselves, the two broke and parted ways. After this, they were never talking for awhile and eventually Fox McCloud decided to leave ZU completely. Turns out that he wasn't gone for good, however, and returned in 07, though he was reluctant to do so. While he was back, he still did not speak to Nenue and she did not speak to him. When August came along, however, the two had met in person during one of ZU's meetups. During this time, it was then they realized they had changed, and they started feeling their connection again. Following these events, they began to speak for hours and hours and hours. They weren't sure why they were speaking again, but their desire to continue to do so only stuck. The feelings between Fox McCloud and Nenue only grew after this, and they decided they had to spend their lives together. They were then married in September of 08.

Shigeru and Deku Queen

Ah, the third of Farore's couples. Shigeru and Deku Queen are one heck of a couple to learn about. Not only have they met in person as well, but the Farore scrapbook has lots of their pictures. They've even shown after-shower images, unusually enough. These two have cracked up the Farorians for a long time and continue to do so today in the Farore Utopia (as well as the rest of the clan, of course).

WilliamZelda4ever and Eternal Legend

Wow, how can we forget the artistic Eternal Legend and her man, WilliamZelda4ever? While they're not the most well-known couple, it is clear that they've been together for some time and are mostly known by EL's art as well as the drawing she's done of Will and herself.

Failtality

A term used immediately after a member is kick-banned from the irc channel. The first time it was used was when KWSN decided to imitate this quote from bash.org when a ZUChat was kick-banned. Yami took it a step futher and declared the failtality.

Give me a sex

A long time ago, when #zelda was still on the EFnet IRC network, a member named Fox McCloud made what is considered the most famous typo in the chatroom's history.

<_McCloud_> Gimme a sex

Obviously he meant "Gimme a sec," but the typo, for some reason, has lived on and been referenced countless times. Most oldbies were around to see this, and it will probably be the most famous #zelda typo ever.

McCloud was briefly known as Focs due to his typo (an obvious pun), and some even still call him by that name.

Global Moderators

File:Global Mod (ZU).gif
ZU's Global Mod banner.

Global Moderators (aka Global Mods) were created in late 2005, during the moderator changes of Zelda Universe. Global Mods is now the name for the former Super Mods. The only difference between the two is Super Mods now have the power to place people into clans.

Global Mods have the ability to edit, delete, move, and lock any thread inside the forums. They can also warn and ban any member who breaks the Rules of the forums.

Global Mods are one step underneath the Super Mods in the power command of ZU.

Current Global Mods

 • Awkin
 • Trico

How do I become a Global Mod?

Global Mods are selected from amongst mods that have shown extra dedication to Zelda Universe. This position is reached through working up the moderator ranks. You cannot simply ask to become one!

Gnug-IRC

Gnug-IRC is an IRC server run by a handful of folks in the Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander community; namely those affiliated with TAUniverse.

History

It was initially known as TA-IRC. Sometime during 2006, its name changed to Gnug-IRC, though it is still the same network.

Rooms on Gnug-IRC

Gnug-IRC is notable for its hosting of not one, but two of the largest Zelda-related chat rooms in the Zelda fansite community: #zelda, the Zelda Universe chat room, and the slightly smaller #vgrc, the shared chat between VGRC and ZeldaInformer.

Other notable channels on Gnug-IRC include:

 • #++ - The chat room for HTLOZ II
 • #absolutezelda - The chat room for Absolute Zelda
 • #gnug - The home channel for the network
 • #tauniverse - The chat room for TAUniverse
 • #supcom - The chat room for SupCom Universe
 • #nowplaying - A hangout founded by luckz for users to spam their nowplaying scripts and chat about music
 • #bored - A formerly popular hangout on the server. One day, most of them packed up and left for another server
 • #future - An alternative hangout for some people in #zelda and #vgrc
 • #zeldawiki- The official Zelda Wiki.org chat room

Server Rules and Policies

The official statement from Gnug-IRC's owners are as follows:

There are three general server policies. One for general management, one regarding freedom of speech, and one for the use of IRCBots.

General Management Policy: The general policy of the server is to let channels manage themselves through the hierarchy provided by chanserv. This means that channels essentially define their own rules, so long as they fall within the constraints of the server rules. ChanOps enforce their rules as they see fit. The role of our IRCOps, in addition to enforcing the server policies and rules, is to primarily deal with issues that arise across multiple channels and affect users in those channels.

Freedom of Speech Policy: There's a tension between the right to have total freedom of speech and the right of another to not be forced to see certain things. We moderate that tension here in a fairly simple manner. Pretty much anything can be said INSIDE a channel, so long as it conforms to the channel and server rules. Anything visible from OUTSIDE of the channel will conform to a happy medium that includes no profanity, no expressions of racial or religious hate, no explicit sexual references, and no advertising. Interpretation of this policy for specific instances is at the discretion of the server IRCOps.

IRCBot Policy: We aren't against the usage of bots in general. However, please check with an IRCOp before bringing one onto the server. As a general guideline, no bots should be put in a channel without first getting approval from the channel owner/operators.

Server Rules: The server rules are quite simple. Follow them and you'll have a pleasant stay. Repeatedly break them and you'll be gone. Nothing substitutes for common sense either.

The rules are:

 • No warez at all.
 • No fserves or xdcc at all.
 • No channels explicitly for pornography and no pornography in channels that prohibit it.
 • No trojans and no DCCing of any viruses or trojans.
 • No ban evasion.
 • No nick stealing or impersonating others.
 • No nuking and no excessive number of clones.

Going Kedsy

A term that was coined by Nox in #Zangaroa. To say, 'going Kedsy' is to say that you will troll and belittle community members purely for the purpose of generating 'jollies' and to disrupt the alleged 'already ruined discussion'. This is the exact same thing Kedsy (Mr. Hands), who was a member of ZU, did and was banned for after he left.

Clan Mods

The Clan mods are a type of forum mod. They are the mods for the clans at Zelda Universe. Usually, if you are a Clan Mod, you have shown good leadership inside your own clan.

Current Clan Mods

How do I become a Forum, Section or Clan Mod?

They are usually selected based on their activeness in a specific forum or section, as well as their leadership qualities displayed inside those forums or sections. They are selected from amongst Zelda Universes members who show dedication to the forums. Asking to become a mod will decrease any chances that you had of becoming one.

NKA

What is the NKA, you ask? Well, it differs from D3PyroGS club, Newbie Kumquat Association as our general goal is to track down and kill n00bs (basicly, the club is an offshoot of the N00b Slaying Organization, or NSO), thus the name, N00b Killing Association. Vets and newbs alike are sick of the n00b invasion that has swept ZU in the past few months. Differing from the mod team, we generaly like to kill n00bs right on the spot, rather than try and change them as there are too many of them now to try and convert. The mod team is having trouble also and that is why we need you to join our organization. The only rules for our club is to follow ZU's rules (which the n00bs break) and to not be a n00b. If you were one, thats fine as it can help to know a n00b if you were one as to track them down easier.

The NKA was founded on May 1st, 2005, by used-to-be n00b, Nox.

Newbie's Guide to the Universe

The Newbie's Guide to the Universe is an extensive guide to the rules and ways of the Zelda Universe forums. The name is play on the famous novel and book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The guide was written by Scott, when he was still known as Kokiri Kid. The guide mentions all the rules of Zelda Universe in an easier to read manner. The guide is located in the New Members Board of Zelda Universe.[6]

Onebie

The term, 'Onebie' was coined by Nox in #zelda. A onebie is like an oldbie, only a onebie has been at ZU for a year or more. Onebies are a bit lower on the food chain, but still know ZU pretty well.

The term is met with contention from some, who consider the classification of members to this degree devisive and counterproductive.

Some famous onebies:
Alonely
Jason
Altamira
Nox
Kazan
RenaKunisaki
PyroMyrmidon
Gerudo

Patron

ZU Patron Banner.

Patrons are people on Zelda Universe who donated money to the site. These donations were first announced when Jason needed $2000 (USD) for the new "Temple" layout/skin. nother way that people got the banner was not to long ago when Jason needed money for "A new, shiny, silver server." Currently the new server is doing fine, but the time left to use it is under four months. People who donated received a shiny golden banner.

How do I become a Patron?

Donate at least one American dollar's worth ($1) of cash to Jason by Paypal, then send a copy of the receipt that you receive by email to Jason via private message (PM) on Zelda Universe.

Phaptastical

How it started

Phaptastical started in the ZU IRC Chatroom. Nox and Jason were having a discussion as to how awesome PhatMan (Gecko) was. Of course both had different opinions. Nox said he was the most awesome person, and that no one was more awesomely awesome. But, GC had a very different opinion. His thought was PhatMan was not that awesome, and some people were more awesomely awesome, such as Peefy for example. After a long debate, Jason coined the word Phaptastical for PhatMan's "awesome" ranking.

What it means.

But wait! What does it mean? That is the question you are most likely asking. In fact. You are asking it. Phaptastical simply means, you are awesome enough to phap. But you are not awesome enough to do other things, for example: Be Peefy. Phaptastical has only been awarded to one person. Gecko. It is his current Custom Rank on the ZU forums.

To get the awesome rank.

You may be asking yourself, "How do I get this rank?". Well, you can't. It is only permitted to people who can Phap. And the only one that can do that is Gecko. So don't ask.

Serious Discussion

File:Serious.jpg

Around June 2004, the Serious Discussion Board was created so that ZU members could freely discuss serious topics such as politics, religion, and what not.

However, despite the amazing moderating efforts of Big Bro Davidia, (whose skill is rumored to come from the Lord himself) the board moderators, n00bs and oldies alike began flaming other users for their opinions. Then, people started preaching their religion, flaming whole groups of people, and being general dumbasses.

The forum was finally closed in April 2005, and went under total reconstruction. It opened on May 5th 2005 for a short while until finaly being shut down for good in about late May.

The Serious Discussion Board was finally brought back on August 17 of 2005.

Sometimes referred to as INTERNET: Serious Business

Site Staff

File:Site Staff (ZU).gif
ZU's Site Staff banner

Site Staff on Zelda Universe are people who have been selected to write news articles on the main site, make decisions about the website and fulfill other tasks that may arise. These people received a shinny golden banner, with the royal Hyrulean symbol on the left.

Current Site Staff

How do I become a Site Staff Member

Any member of the Zelda Universe Community that the head webmaster selects can become a Site Staff. They are selected for their prominent qualities that make them suitable for the job. You cannot become one by simply asking. Site Staff Members are the people that write news and post it in the main website of Zelda Universe.

Starship ZUChat

Starship ZUChat is one of the handful of handles adopted by chat-goers for trolling escapades on the Zelda Universe forums. There is no defined organizational structure of Starship ZUChat, and in its earlier days was nearly interchangable with the #ZUChat Soviets.

2007 "Revival"

While the name of Starship ZUChat wasn't directly a part of trolling operations since Hind and Kedsy's initial bannings in 04/05, it was generally accepted that the coordinated efforts of the "chat crew" to disrupt the forums is recognized as the Starship. However, it wasn't until May 2007 that the name would be revived.

Resurrection

Captain Cornflake one day decided to start stirring up controversy in ZU's Zelda Theorizing board, making a thread that promoted the view there was no real "timeline" and that the creators had bungled things so many times that trying to make sense of it was a colossal waste of time. (A stance that actually wasn't fabricated) Naturally, this was met by harsh resistance from frequenters of the Theorizing board, who, fueled by the aggressive attitude displayed by Capn, proceeded to continually derail the topic on merits such as "it sparked an uprising of anti-timeliners." (Exact words) While the thread was eventually locked, a sequel soon took its place, drawing in more members of the chat crew. It was around this time that Capn decided to put together a new Starship ZUChat banner for everybody to sport, similar to Tim and Ked's from 2004. When people started accusing those sporting the new Starship sig of simply being trolls, they responded that they were the "newest timeline group" that believed in no timeline. (The "nihlists of timeline theorizing," as Kara had put it) Of course, this was absolute bullshit, but by the time the drama was over, the Starship had succeeded in exposing the near cult-like culture that had overtaken the Theorizing board.

As the next couple months went on, people sporting the Starship ZUChat banner could often be seen attacking threads in waves, building up massive chains of backhanded insults and psychobabble, picking opponents clean before they had a chance to even reply. They even used their strength to hit the Summer 07 awards, nominate themselves as a group for "best sig," winning the award. (after much protest from James)

ASE Headquarters

The Starship would have one more major run-in with the Theorizing board, and that was around the start of July 2007. The Black Knight, who was the leader of the ASE (Allied Splittist Elders) Timeline Group, was deemed "Public Enemy #1" for his often militaristic leadership and plans to "take over" the theorizing section. Because of the threat this provided to the ZU community, the Starship enlisted the help of one of the mods to change TBK's password so as to browse through his private messages, and discovered plans by TBK to "usurp" The Bombers, who at the time were a theorizing club formed on ZU with the goal of ending the member-run groups that were causing harsh divisions among the frequenters of the Theorizing board. These plans called for an end to The Bombers, whom TBK would somehow manage to replace with his own group, The Killer Bees. While he hadn't yet figured out how he was going to gain favor among the staff, he was so certain he could pull it off that he made a forum on InvisionFree that would serve as the headquarters for the ASE until his conquest of ZU could take place.

While at this point, the "ZeldaInformer Revolution" was already well in the works (see below) Captain decided that something needed to be done about this. With 2 days to plan things out before the "ASE Headquarters" board went public, the Starship enlisted the help of new allies from a group comprised mainly of HTLOZ II and Khakain members who would also assist in the ZI migration later on. The initial plan was a coordinated crapflood attack, but investigation by Captain and Leminnes led to TBK's email box. Just for ha-ha's, they went to the password reset form, and faced with the security question of "What is your favorite food," they put in "pizza" for the hell of it.

And it worked.

Immediately, they set off to work on TBK, breaking into various accounts of his on the internet (including his Facebook, sending Nazi propaganda and swastikas to all his friends) and were soon able to use his email to reset his forum account on the ASE HQ, effectively seizing complete control over the board. They proceeded to give their new forum a complete facelift, which can be seen here

TBK was soon spotted afterwards whining in the chat, and later on whined some more on the boards. As an act of mercy, Capn let him take his email account back, but kept control of the ASE HQ, where it now stands as an outpost for the Starship. Following these events, TBK shortly dissappeared from the ZU forums and hasn't been spotted since.

It's a one way ride to the end of the Universe

Towards the end of June, disillusionment with ZU's ever-growing community grew among a handful of members of the chat. With the frequency of in-fighting among the community reaching an all-time high, it seemed as though times were to get very bitter; especially considering the now clashing idealogies of the Starship crew (which at this point had grown almost synonymous with VGRC) and the ZU staff. Soon enough, some Starship members, as well as the Bombers crew on ZU, decided they would forge a new home for themselves, one that they would be able to live in peacefully and productively without the restrictions of working under ZU. With nearly a month set aside to work in private, Starship ZUChat and the Bombers would create ZeldaInformer.

Rather than start this new home from scratch, ZeldaInformer would be built under the watchful eyes of none other than Captain Cornflake and his VGRC, which would allow ZI to leverage VGRC's already entrenched community, as well as its existing popularity amongst the Starship. The Starship would also forge new friendships with members of HTLOZ and Khakain, who would assist in the ZU-to-ZI migration.

On June 16th, ZeldaInformer was announced to the public on both VGRC and ZU, and greeted with a massive spike of drama. While some were happy to take ZI up as a new home, or home away from home, others decreed it as nothing more than a stunt, quick to claim migrants to ZI as mere "props" of some troll by Captain. Today, ZeldaInformer stands as the fastest-growing site in the Zelda webring.

Terminology

After the "ZeldaInformer Revolution," the Starship ZUChat name has been used much less, with members often preferring to tag themselves as part of VGRC, or "Zangaroa," which as Hindmost puts it, is "the political militant cousin to VGRC's quaint gaming charm." And while the names are interchangeable, it is generally understood that context is the key to proper usage. VGRC is generally used for VGRC itself, Starship ZUChat for the continued happenings on ZU, and Zangaroa for trolling operations away from the homelands.

Super Moderator

File:Super Mod (ZU).gif
ZU's Super Mod banner.

The driving force behind the survival of the Zelda Universe Forums, the Super Moderators (aka Super Mods) travel around the boards to make sure order is kept around forums.

Super Mods have the ability to edit, delete, move, and lock any thread inside the forums. They can also warn and ban any member who breaks the Rules of the forums.

Super Mods are one step underneath the Administrators in the power command of ZU.

In late 2005, Super Mods were split into two groups, Super Mods and Global Mods. Both essentially perform the same moderating duties, the only change is that a Super Mod can now place people into clans.

Current Super Mods

How do I become a Super Mod?

Super Mods are selected for promotion after showing they are worthy of the job through being a Global Mod and mod. They are the top ranking of moderators and reaching Super Mod requires progressing through the mod ranks.

The Escapists' Haven

The Escapists' Haven, formerly known as the Amphitheater, and before that as the Battle Arena, is the role-playing section of Zelda Universe. It often goes by the its original name, the Battle Arena, or "BA," which is now also the name of its main forum. It was revamped when the Temple skin was introduced to Zelda Universe on July 11, 2008. This revamp introduced the Village, which allowed for Out of Character threads to be made; something almost impossible to do before the revamp, with all the Out of Character threads being in the Battle Arena.

Forums

Characters

This is the forum where role-players make characters and submit them to the approval process. These characters will be used in all of the other forums in the Escapists' Haven excluding The Village. This forum includes the Character Fiction sub-forum, where role-players write stories about their characters without any interaction in the work with the readers.

Battle Arena and The Crossroads

The role playing forums of the Escapists' Haven. The Battle Arena, sometimes referred to as the "BA", is the main role playing forum. The BA focuses on battle related role plays. The Crossroads, however, focus on more general role plays.

The Dome

The place where most role players go with their new characters after creation. This is the place where a character can be enrolled in a class, and a training thread can be made for them. The role player will accept various assignments from their teacher, and write about their character whilst fulfilling those assignments. Then the teacher, or one of their aides, will come and critique the student's writing, and ask him to change it for the better. The student will do this, and then the teacher (or helper) will write a post using their character, and give the student a new assignment.[7]

This process is then repeated until a character's individual graduation, at which time a new graduation thread for the character will be made. This is usually the character's last involvement with the dome, unless their creator becomes a teacher or teacher's helper and uses their character to role play with their students.

The Village

The place where all the out of character discussion is held. The thread with the most activity in here is the "OOC thread". This used to be one of the very few non-Council created discussion threads (this incarnation was created by a Council member, although some past incarnations weren't).

The Out of Character Thread

The main thread of the Escapists' Haven is the Out of Character thread. This is one of the few non-council member created discussion threads, although most incarnations are made by council members. The oldest one found dates 08/23/2004 through 07/21/2005.[8] The Out of Character thread is always in danger of having it's title changed, with one role player stating "It's part of the EH culture."[9] Most of the Out of Character threads were posted in the Battle Arena before The Village was made.[8] Now, since the Village is the only Escapists' Haven forum for out of character activity, it will be posted there.

The BA council

Main article: B.A. Council (ZU)
ZU's B.A. Council banner.

The BA council was the main council of members for the Escapists' Haven. They approved characters, and could create homerooms and teach in the dome, if they wished. They were not moderators, contrary to some belief. There were not many BA council members, but, unlike moderators, one could request to become a BA council member. New council members were rare, however.

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009, a decision was made by the Moderaters of Zelda Universe to disband the BA council. All of the council related duties were taken over by the moderaters of The Escapists' Haven, which were, at the time, Ciroton and Altamira[10]. This caused much outrage and a good deal of spam to be created in the Village section of the Escapists' Haven. These led to a few bans and a few more temporary 'REVOLUTION' accounts. It was later revealed that this was an April Fool's Joke, and all bans, infractions, and warnings were lifted, and everything went back to normal within the EH.

Webmaster

File:Webmaster (ZU).gif
ZU's Webmaster banner.

Webmasters of Zelda Universe are the most vital part of entire website. The webmasters are those select few who have access to the Zelda Universe web site and are able to edit all content of the web site. They also post news items and articles relating to Zelda.

Webmasters have the same powers as Admins, which are editing, deleting, moving, and locking threads, as well as warning and banning any members who break the Rules of ZU. They also have the ability to change any users names and user profiles, create/lock/delete the forums shown on ZU, as well more stricter forms of banning.

Webmasters are the highest on the power command of ZU.

Current Webmasters

 • Jason (Owner of ZU, paying the bills, and planning new ideas for the site.)
 • Cody (Webmaster Of ZU, and helping Jason run the site.)
 • James (Not so often seen on the ZU forums, James continues with mailbags and news reports for the main site)

How do I become a Webmaster?

Webmasters are those select few who show an extra dedication to the ZU Forums. They are usually selected for a promotion by the lead webmaster from other high ranking positions, such as Administrator, Super Mod or Site Staff. Asking to become a webmaster will significantly lower any chances there were of you becoming a webmaster.

ZUBC

The ZUBC banner.
The current album artwork for ZUCast, produced by the ZUBC.

ZUBC, short for Zelda Universe Broadcasting Corporation, is the umbrella term used to describe a series of podcasts which are devised and created by a team of dedicated staff at Zelda Universe.

History

The idea of a podcast was initially brought up by Nolan MacDonald [2] on the Zelda Universe forum, and was quickly supported by user Anime_Queen [3]. The idea was approved by Jason Rappaport, the current owner of the website, and a pilot podcast was ordered. Initial staffing problems pushed the pilot back two months, confusing listeners as the community news was out of date. This problem also effected the second podcast, as a large scale reorganization took place within the podcast staff forums that prohibited the podcast from timely reporting news.

ZUBC was originally concentrated within the podcast, called "ZCast" (short for "ZeldaCast") until staff member Domanic Calleja devised that the podcast should be part of a larger media group. He jokingly referred to it as the 'ZUBC' (in homage to the British Broadcasting Corporation) which, to his great amusement, was accepted by Jason and Asia, becoming the site-wide identity of the team dedicated to creating both podcasts and all other forms of ZU-related media.

Current Format

OoT Ocarina of Time Render.png
This article or section is out of date.
It needs to be updated to be accurate with information available at the present time.

Originally, there was a single podcast which, by popular demand, catered towards the community aspects of the site; however, the podcast was quickly criticized by members for it's lack of Zelda-specific coverage. It was eventually decided that the podcast would be split into two parts - "ZCast", the Zelda podcast, and "CCast", the community podcast. Both will be released simultaneously and downloadable separately to cater to listeners' preferences. Both podcasts are currently in production.

Projects In Development

The ZUBC currently has two projects in development: A third podcast secretly referred to as the "DCast," the content of which is also kept secret by the staff. However, it is known that the format of the DCast will be radically different than the ZCast and CCast.

In addition, "ZUTV" will be a repository of Zelda and Community related videos. This project is currently planned to release its first video through TSA shortly.

Members of the Podcast Staff[11]

 • Asia Alfasi: Former Executive Producer/Director "Content Manager, director, occasional base editor and slave driver - overseeing the whole production process from start to finish."
 • Daniel Åkerman: Co-Producer " Co-director of the podcast, and overlord of The Casual Gamer segment."'
 • Bret Lockerbie: ZUBC Host "Speaks on behalf of the Zelda Universe Community so that others may hear it."
 • Connor Sullivan: ZUBC Host "The dude who talks with the other dude on the pod-thingy…"
 • Margaret: Executive Producer/Editor (”Mix ‘n Matcher”) "“Builds” the podcast out of dust and spittle (or audio files), and occasionally makes shameless cameos in the ‘cast."
 • Domanic Calleja: Public Relations "'Knock knock, delivery!' Dom is in charge of the outer image of the podcast. His job includes getting the podcast to you, the listeners, by updating the Headquarters page and posting threads on the forums. He also does a lot of the visual work, providing graphics and images for use with the podcast."
 • Malia Fa’auma: Executive Producer/ZUBC Host "Apparently gender equality came up in discussion and thus Liah was kidnapped whilst walking down street outside the headquarters to talk along side Lunk during the ridiculously early hours of the morning…"

Segments and Members Who Manage Them

 • Selah: Beneath the ZU Spotlight. Manages half of the day to day news and drama of members around.
 • Rhosco Rhodes: Does the other half of the news with his amazing news voice.

How do I become a member of the ZUBC

The ZUBC has recently redone its system. According to Margar, the ZUBC will no longer (if ever, very rarely) be hiring any more permanent staff members.[12] The new system has most of the podcast segments being member-created. Any member, as long as they own the right equipment and software, can record their own segments and submit it to the ZUBC for review and possible airing. If a member has an idea for a segment but does not have the necessary equipment and/or software, he or she can submit his/her idea to the ZUBC. There are many ways to get involved with the ZUBC.

ZUChat

The term "ZUChat" may refer to one of three things:

#zuchat

The original name for the Zelda Universe chat room. Created by Lozzie, it was located on a random IRC server back in July 2003 for ZUers to talk while the forums were down. Eventually, it morphed into the ZU chat room we all know today.

After the move of the chat to Gnug-IRC, the room was renamed to #zelda, with #zuchat being recommissioned as a veterans hangout. Today, it is largely empty, with chat vets having moved onto a handful of other channels to serve the purpose of a hangout away from #zelda.

Starship ZUChat

A loose trolling group that grew out of #zuchat. See Starship ZUChat for more info.

ZUChat, the person

When the Java-based webchat was introduced to ZU, the default name for anybody joining was named "ZUChat." As most of the channel regulars used a program such as mIRC or X-Chat to connect to the chat, 95% of the time anybody joining as a ZUChat was usually a N00b, and 99% of the time the ZUChats got picked on by the regular chat members and usually is ran out of the chat room.

Example:

[12:08]ZUChat has entered #zelda
[12:09]Lars: OMFG, IT'S A ZUCHAT!!
[12:09]*Phatman hugs the ZUChat
[12:10]ZUChat has left #zelda

Sentiments of the name ZUChat:

[12:58:11 AM] <AutoMatt> kwsn: Zuchat is another name for fail.

In February 2008, the infamous Java chat was replaced with a new Java applet integrated to the ZU forums. Anybody joining the chat would then automatically join as their forum name, with unregistered users and those not logged in joining as Unregistered, thus effectively limiting the fun of ZUChat to those old enough to remember it.

ZU Chat Staff

Template:Sectstub

These selected members are like forum moderators, but for the IRC chat. These members can change the subject of thier chat channel, or kick/ban a member from the chat. Chat Admins control who is a normal member, and who has staff powers.

ZUHC

File:ZUHC logo.jpg
ZUHC logo

The ZUHC is short for Zelda Universe Holiday Cards. The project is leaded by manger, Zien, and was made to help spread multi-holiday cheer throughout the year. The cards are drawn by ZU's very own members, and the designs are based off of suggestions made by other members.

History

The Beginning

Projects In Development

The ZUHC is currently working on a Valentines Day card for Zelda Universe. The card will hopefully be posted in a thread in ZU, and will also have an ad for members to go to the thread from a post on the main site.

Zelda Encyclopedia

Zelda Encyclopedia: This was the predecessor to the Zelda Universe Wiki, contained a fine array of data, but was limited in the information offered. Its listing went from Aches to Zora, and was a useful tool to so many Zelda Universe users, unfortunately its data was limited, and because of this the Zelda Wiki looks to be a major improvement as it will be constantly updated by site users.

Zelda Wiki.org Contributor

ZU's Zelda Wiki.org Contributor banner.

The Zelda Wiki.org Contributor Banner was suggested to Jason by Melchizedek, who was given the idea by Axiomist.[13] Jason needed a simple way to confirm that these users made as many edits as they said they did. So Matt suggested to have the Edit Count extension installed.

How do I become a Zelda Wiki.org Contributor?

A Zelda Wiki.org Contributor at Zelda Universe is a member whom:

 • Has shown great dedication to contributing to the wiki.
 • Doesn't seem to be just in it for the banner.
 • Has made a reasonable amount of edits.

That's about it. So if you plan on just making a bunch of edits, getting the banner, and then leave the wiki, then think again. We'd be able to tell. You have to show true dedication to get this banner. And if we think you'd just quit editing once you get it, then we will not give it to you.

If you do receive a contributor banner and then decide you don't need to edit at all anymore, then the banner will be removed.

NOTE: Please do not ask me if I think you are ready for the banner. Asking that is like asking to be a forum mod. It will significantly reduce your chances of getting it.

Two parties are currently responsible for handing out the banners.

 • Zelda Wiki.org Admins confirm that the person in question owns both the Zelda Universe account and the Zelda Wiki.org account. They then report in to Aeffles.
 • Aeffles is the person that will add the banner to the Zelda Universe account.
