Squiddies are recurring Animals in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]

Characteristics

Phantom Hourglass

In Phantom Hourglass, Squiddies occasionally pop out of the sea while Link is sailing aboard the SS Linebeck. If they are hit with the Cannon, they will shoot up into the air and dispense a single Rupee. If left alone, they will slowly fall back into the sea. If hit enough, they will eventually split into two. Up to three Squiddies can appear at the same time; once they are allowed to disperse and one drops into the sea, one of the remaining Squiddies will be able to split again.

Spirit Tracks

In Spirit Tracks, Squiddies are only found in the Ocean Realm, where they behave identically to the ones in Phantom Hourglass. Link can use the Cannon of the Spirit Train to strike them and collect Rupees.

Tri Force Heroes

In Tri Force Heroes, Squiddies appear on or close to dry land, hovering close to the ground. Physically, they resemble a blue jellyfish adorned with Rupee-like patterns. One Squiddy can be found in every Level. They can be attacked with the Sword, causing them to bounce upward and dispense Green Rupees. After being juggled several times, they will start to drop Blue Rupees and eventually Red Rupees. At this point, striking the Squiddy once more will cause it burst into a shower of Hearts and Rupees. Squiddies will bounce more quickly the more they are hit, and if allowed to touch the ground without being struck quickly enough, they will burst without dispensing any Items. If the Links are low on health, Squiddies will drop up to four Hearts before dropping Rupees as normal.

Squiddies can be safely struck with the Boomerang, Fire Gloves, Gust Jar, and explosions from Bombs. All other Items, including Sword Beams and the Water Rod's pillars, will cause a Squiddy to burst instantly.

Trivia

  • In rare circumstances in Tri Force Heroes, the Links can receive damage from Squiddies if touched by them when spawning or by falling on them.[2]
