Please feel free to ask me anything on my talk page! Whether it's about one of my edits, a page I started, a page you want me to create, my Timeline Theory, a general question, or you just want to get to know me, I'll be more than happy to answer. Also, I've recently taken a liking to designing userboxes. If you'd like me to make one in particular, feel free to ask! Alter  {T C B H }

User Talk Pages

Hey Alter, just a note about speaking on other peoples talk pages. Though I know you mean to help, it is a general courtesy not to answer questions users have specified to that specific person. Think of it as a conversation being interrupted. Some people may take offence to it. Talk page conversations are often continuations of conversations from elsewhere, so only specific people may understand exactly what's going on. Generally, only staff should get invovled in other peoples talk page discussions where appropriate, to help as their job often requires. If you could note this, that would be appreciated. - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 10:56, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok. Sure thing. It's really encouraged on most other Wikis/Wikias I'm around, so it was just a natural thing. Believe it or not, I spend only a fraction of my time here, as compared to other Wikis. I hope I didn't offend you. :( Sorry. Alter  {T C B H } 18:50, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Didn't offend me, but there's a good chance that some people may take offense to it. - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 21:24, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

{{Noclog}} Template

Be more useful in your usage of it. It's a great template for getting unnecessary pages off the recent changes, but there are pages we want to be on there, so that people find them and make them. For instance, the Bosses in Link's Crossbow Training Page. Bear that in mind. - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 07:55, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Good thing you pointed that template out Alter, pages have the potential to completely disappear. So I made the template automatically categorize pages that it's used on. Thanks for helping with the Wanted Pages clean up. Now, I'd say it's a pretty good list as I and Austin removed several links from pages that shouldn't have been there to begin with. I suppose the next step would be to search for variations in the spellings as what happened with Wake-Up Mushroom. Axiomist (talk) 08:50, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

OK, Melchizedek. I was just trying to get rid of the red link in the template, as it made it look pretty bad. Thanks, Axiomist! I'm glad to help out. :) Alter  {T C B H } 17:31, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In instances such as those, it isn't bad having that red link, even hough it looks bad. If others think it looks bad they're likely to make the page, which is the whole idea of wanted pages. :P - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 22:20, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image Background Removal

I have to inquire as to what program you've been using for the background removal of images, as it hasn't been great quality. There has been a white stroke around the image, which isn't good, especially against the blue of Zelda Wiki. For future reference on such things, be sure to follow the steps set out at Zelda Wiki:Image Requests, as Matt's page has been transferred into this 'project'. I hope this explains how I've dealt with your images. - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 09:37, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I've been using GIMP. I'm pretty new to the program, but I am getting better. It's just taken a few images. Yeah, I can see that they're bad now, but the white background doesn't show up on GIMP, so it's hard to judge until I see them on the site. Sorry about that. Still trying to get the hang of it. I gathered the the Barkle image was fine, though. :p Alter  {T C B H } 17:14, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's a problem I came across when I first started transparent-izing images. Here's a good tip; something that I follow, and should apply to any image editing app. To check the quality of your transparency around the edges, temporarily add a dark-coloured layer in the background (I find that the wiki's background colour, or something close, is best). Once you've cleaned it up enough so that any white marks etc are gone or not visible, remove the coloured background layer. Steve seems to be The Master of GIMP, so you could always ask him for some pointers. Adam [ talk ] 20:45, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Barkle Image needed a bit of touching up, so I've added it to Zelda Wiki:Image Requests. I really think Photoshop makes background removal easier than GIMP does. - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 10:30, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Photoshop is easier to use yes, but GIMP does a far better job at removing backgrounds. Much better than anything else.Emma (Talk) 10:47, May 15, 2009 (UTC)
I really think that depends more so on the individual's skills.- M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 10:49, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Star Wars Comic

Even though it may have been called just Star Wars at the time, the comic was retroactively named Star Wars Republic 27: Starcrash, at least according to Wookieepedia. Similar to how the movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was originally just called Star Wars. --Makar Rocks 03:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh, alright. :) Then perhaps it should be titled Dark Times, as the first two issues were labled Republic 83 and 83, respectively? It's your call. :) Alter  {T C B H } 03:46, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

Canon or not, it is a spinoff game and therefore not in the main line. Meaning it can't succeed or precede the main games. Not saying it can't timeline wise. It just can't by release.Emma (Talk) 19:53, June 4, 2009 (UTC)

I believed that it was by release. If they are canon, then it is reasonable to say that they are part of the series. Also, I just do not see a reason to leave them out. The idea is that people will be able to tell what games were released in what order. If these games are canon, I believe that it is important to do so.
I see where you are coming from, but as I said, I don't see a reason why not to include them. Alter  {T C B H } 21:12, 4 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
They are canon. But they are not part of the main line. Rather, they're in their own universe. I guess you could say that. They're spin-offs.Mandi Talk 21:15, 4 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Think of it like the Super Mario line and the Yoshi line of games. They are both canon to each other, but they are completely different lines of games. Same thing here.Emma (Talk) 21:26, June 4, 2009 (UTC)

I have added a list of enemies in TRR. For now I have just made a list and placed it under the Enemies link. So far there are only three enemies inside the Enemies link and I will add more as the page for each enemy is created. So for the enemy names under the "Enemy" link we need to create a page. For the names that have a link, we just need to add the info into those pages. I also ran into a problem. I have a Shadow in my list, and there is a link. The problem is that it is linked to Shadow the hedgehog. Can this be fixed? One more thing. I have downloaded a lot of game images. I will try to Gif every enemy and upload it. So I guess I'll be busy updating this game, so thanks for your help! Eximius 10:17, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sure thing! Yes, shadow can be fixed. You will either need to rename the hedgehog, or rename the TRR monster. If you need any help, give me a holler. Alter  {T C B H } 16:53, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image Requests

I need to point out the fact, that what you've done to TMC Gregal Sprite.png, though of fine quality, is against wiki policy. It will not be reverted, but for future reference, I must refer you to the paragraph at the top of the Image Request Page, which states that you do not have the permission to do image transparencies. Thanks - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 10:00, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just to clarify, the reason behind this decision is to avoid imperfect results (e.g. File:Moblin.png which has poor edge quality). Although the majority of the transparencies you've done meet the requirements, we need to ensure a high level of overall consistency in terms of quality. Adam [ talk ] 11:37, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Alright. Are these rules new? I've done over a dozen images recently, which have turned out well, and are good quality, such as the many images that are not truly transparent. I'm assuming I am able to add my own images that are already transparasized, though. Sorry about some of the poor pieces. Those were my earlier works, before I was able to seamlessly do it. May I obtain permission, then? I'm perfectly capable of taking on smaller images, now that I've got a little bit of experience. Sorry again 'bout the moblin thing. lol Alter  {T C B H } 23:20, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Show some of your stuff and if it checks out we can add you to the approved list. Some of my earlier stuff was pretty poor as well. Everyone has to learn for a first time.Emma (Talk) 00:09, June 16, 2009 (UTC)
All of the images on Essences of Time, File:TMC Gregal Sprite.png as Mel pointed out, File:Head Thwomp.gif, File:Smog.gif, File:Hero Statue.png, File:Pumpkinhead.gif File:Teddy Todo 2.png, :File:25a-chests.png, File:Waitress.gif, File:Journalist.gif, File:Jeweler.gif along with several other TRR characters. There are a few others, but these are my more recent images. And as you know, I've added tons of other images, almost all of which had to be cropped, lightened/darkened, etc. So whaddaya think? Alter  {T C B H } 04:30, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The policies are fairly new Alter, however they were announced on the main page, and in the Image Requests, so you should have read them. The array of images that you present there are fairly well done. I tend to notice that you are skilled with simpler graphics (2D games) compared to more realistic graphics, (such as File:Hero Statue.png), which leaves some traces of backgrounds. I am however, willing for you to attempt to become an approved image editor. To do so, refer to the application process on the image request page, which has been recently instigated. - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 09:06, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sorry. I really only check out the "my watched" pages, and seldom visit the main pages. Anyway, it appears as though two of the tree approved people have posted here. Do I need to move this somewhere? Alter  {T C B H } 15:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Even with all of the discussions here, it is still necessary for you to follow the procedures with this application. You do need to make an official application on the image requests talk page. I have undone your edit to that page, as it didn't follow the specifications for applications as specified on the image requests page. Please read the guidelines at the top of the page and remake your application. Secondly, I must encourage you to frequent the main pages so that you are aware of announcements and new policies and so that you don't breach policy. Thanks. - M E L C H I Z E D E K  (TALK) 08:28, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Think you could help/assist me?

I wouldn't know if anyone did already, but I'm trying to translate the FPTRR's scratchard text. My knowledge on the Japanese language is limited though, so my ability to recognize the correct Hylian/Japanese characters from the tiny DS screen is limited. I'd appreciate it if a second person (you) could take a look at the scratchcards to give their vision on what they think is written on it. This chart helps recognizing the characters used, and I don't need a second take on the Super Scratchcard's left corner (which says "super"), the first line ("7 kenja" - 7 Sages) or fourth line ("triforce"). I'm also certain the first half of the right corner says "Hylia", so I only need a second vision on the last four characters. Think you could? IfIHaveTo 08:05, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out! Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of Japanese. :/ I'll see what I can do, though. It would be great if we could put that stuff up on the page. I'll have a looksee right now. :) P.S. Do you have an image of the scratchcards? I may can come up with one, but it wouldn't be the easiest thing. Alter  {T C B H } 17:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You don't need to have knowledge on Japanese. All I need is a grasp on what is or could be written there in a real language (normal Japanese kana) so I can try to decipher it. With the stuff I could already translate, the letters that I recognized immediately hinted me on the full word and thus the identity of the letters I wasn't sure of. For the rest I need help. I've also figured out what the possible 'hagashi'-ending of the second line likely means: 'gin' is silver - 'ginhagashi' is 'peel off silver', ergo, the scratch part.
Unfortunately, I am unable to get the image. I've tried obtaining a rom once for the purpose of screenshots, but I'm not familiar with all the programs around and the one that did sorta worked was incomplete. IfIHaveTo 19:50, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, I would probably be able to figure it out. I'll see if I can a card on my game. I would suggest using no$GBA for the emulator. If you need help finding a ROM, I can help you with that. It's legal as long as you actually own the game. :P Alter  {T C B H } 20:02, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Alright. I put a space between each of the letters, and placed the english letters from that chart in their place. This is line 1:

  • 7 ke n ji ya

And line 2:

  • gi n ha ga shi

It appears as though we came up with the same letters. I'm currently working on the part you asked me to (the second half of the text in the upper right corner). Alter  {T C B H } 22:20, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Those letters are so small it's not even funny. Here's the best I could do with the last four letters:

  • _ (n?) ko (ku? or u?)

I saw nothing similar to the first one, other than -possibly- be. I'll keep looking, but my eyeballs are about to fall out. Oh, and I do have some low-quality images of the scratchcard. It's good enough to tell what the first two large lines are. Let me know if you want them posted. Alter  {T C B H } 22:50, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

On the right corner - My personal guess is that the fifth letter is "do", making the full word as I can see it "donkou". Unfortunately, "donkou" is a sort of Japanese train, an unlikely translation. "Benkou" could mean "speech mannerism", but I can only track down one source on that, and it doesn't really seem right. However, "jinkou" means "population", a fine fit that would make the whole thing "Hylia-population". I cannot see a "ji" in the character though, but then again, it looks like nothing in the chart so I present "population" as my best guess.
I hope you'll be helping me on the other lines too. And even if the images are low-quality, I rather have something to show people than nothing. It's not like we couldn't replace it if ever we get our hands on something better - it will definitely do in the meantime... Who actually do you think are depicted on the cards? IfIHaveTo 08:34, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
100px‎
It does work (Hylia Population), but it seems sort of random/out of place. Anyway, here's the image. I was taken from a cell phone, so it's pretty crappy. I can take a better one when I have the time to pull my digital out. I'll start working on the lower portions of the text now. Alter  {T C B H } 23:49, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ahh. Technically, I took an image from the Link's Awakening manga, and edited the heck out of it. So you could really put it under either by the wiki's rules, but I think it would best given to the original artist. Also, thanks for tidying up the TRR pages.
