Listings

I think the "Listings" section in each game's article are really big and should be moved into their own separate article. What do you think? --Jase 14:16, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

Yeah, they are too long and it's tiresome to have to scroll down through them all. I'd been wondering for a while if there was a better format we could use; not sure if placing them all on separate pages might fragment it too much, but it does open the possibility of expanding the lists with images, so it might work out quite well. What were you thinking, something like "List of Items in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" for example? Adam 15:38, 29 March 2007 (CDT)
Pretty much. I believe we also have a Characters in TWW page, too. It would kind of be to that effect, I take. Personally, I think the lists create clutter and would need to be CONSTANTLY updated, but if some people find them useful they should be put somewhere - just not in the articles themselves. A link to the new list article would be put in the game article, though. --Jase 15:53, 29 March 2007 (CDT)
OK, I finished moving all of the Listings from the Wind Waker page to separate articles (except Dungeons, seemed a bit too short to bother); you were right Jase, it looks much better. At some point I'll go through the other games and do at least the Items and Enemies sections (which are usually the longest). --Adam 14:28, 20 May 2007 (PDT)
Cool. I really like what you did with the page; it looks great. Keep up the good work! The wiki appreciates it. ;)... By the way, it's so weird to see somebody call me "Jase." You are probably the third person to actually call me that. I know I set it as Jase in my signature, but usually people call me Jason or GC. Not that Jase is bad, it's just neat to see it catching on to some degree. :P --Jase 16:01, 20 May 2007 (PDT)

BLOCKED

Guys, back me up here. Am I being unreasonable? http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/User talk:Adamcox82 --Adam 01:20, 21 June 2007 (PDT)

Thanks Jason, it makes me feel a lot better to have someone speak in my defence :) I'm not sure what Scottch's response (if any) will be, but I would really like to get him to unblock me. I don't actually want to contribute to that wiki now - his attitude has soured the whole place for me, and it seems far too much like a dictatorship. But I want him to acknowledge that he judged me unfairly. --Adam 15:39, 21 June 2007 (PDT)
Anytime. Just shows the difference between that place and this, I guess ;)... plus, I know you're a great contributor, and that guy just has to be wrong, and I'd hate to see him get away with it. --Jase 17:36, 21 June 2007 (PDT)

Update

Finally got myself un-banned from Kingdom Hearts wiki, and it only took involving Angela, the co-founder of wikia! Now that leaves all my time free for editing here, as I won't be going back to that stupid wiki in a hurry! --Adam 04:51, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

Image Location

Where did you find TWW Three-Eye Reef.png? I am attempting to find the other islands from this map to put in their respectful pages. I know it is from a map in a walkthrough guide, but I cannot find it online. Do you have a link? Could you upload the whole map? 42bens 10:32, 25 June 2007 (PDT)

Don't worry, I have a similar image for all of the islands, just haven't got around to uploading them yet! Can't remember where I downloaded them from, but they seem to have been scanned from a walkthrough map. I promise I'll do the rest this week :) --Adam 12:31, 25 June 2007 (PDT)
I could do it for you if you send me the map 42bens@gmail.com. 42bens 13:33, 25 June 2007 (PDT)
Nevermind I got it. I'll finish it up. 42bens 19:41, 28 June 2007 (PDT)
It's okay. It saved me some work and they do look a bit better. I may do the work on the Four Swords Adventure levels though. And thank you for your support. Some of those images are really hard to find, especially the Bean Seller one. 42bens 18:09, 29 June 2007 (PDT)

While I'm Gone

Since you're awesome and everything, since I'ma be gone for three weeks, you want some tasty temp powerz so that you can add the featured article to the front page when the last vote rolls around? You can also do whatever the heck else you want while I'm gone, too, just short of blowing the place up. --Jase 11:14, 6 July 2007 (PDT)

I would be honoured to accept :) In fact, I was about to suggest that someone(s) be appointed to look after the place (not necessarily me :)) while you're gone, since last time you were away it degenerated into a complete vandalism-fest! --Adam 11:21, 6 July 2007 (PDT)
You now has temp powers. Enjoy. Don't spend every waking moment on this place, though - it's not good for you. ;) --Jase 17:52, 6 July 2007 (PDT)

Hi, I've unblocked you now - really sorry! I understand what happened now, you'd reverted one of the many spam edits, but because I use the enhanced recent changes view, your address was right next to the spammer, and for some reason I blocked you both! Again, really sorry - I'll click more carefully in future... --Adam 23:41, 24 August 2007 (PDT)

help!

Okay, I think your a moderator, right? First off, nice to meet you, second, I would like some help. I just cleaned up two articles that were being spammed up with links to other sites. I found the guys IP address: 91.151.224.17

maybe you could talk to him . . .

Hi, and welcome to ZW.org! Unfortunately, we get this kind of vandalism fairly regularly, from a variety of different IP addresses. I've blocked that address permanently from making edits, and thanks for reverting the damage. Don't worry too much; I usually do a sweep of all new edits pretty much daily to check for any vandalism, so either myself or Jason should spot these problems. Thanks again, and enjoy editing here :) --Adam 23:03, 17 August 2007 (PDT)

hi!

hi! can I copy the picture RedChuTP.jpg for a german site called stupidedia.org? its a satire-website like the uncyclopedia. i need your picture, bc i haven't found a picture of a red chu in twighlight princess on the internet. it would be really great if i had your permission for the license!

Discussion of category deletions - non-existent

Hi,

I've just found this site today and went and tried to put some more structure into it. One of the things I did was creating per-game categories to collect all articles concerning the various games beneath. (No, this cannot be seen from their respective articles.) I wanted to bring it up for discussion first and spent about an hour and a half browsing about the site, looking through docs, etc. to see how the community around this site handled structural changes (or style guidelines or, well, anything), but since there seemed (and seems) to be no place for such discussions, I decided to go ahead with the addition of the categories, somewhat expecting to be challenged on their usefulness, but at least I believed that they would be marked for deletion before being deleted, thus giving some room for discussion of the justice of having it. But there you go. Feel free to DeleteWhenCooked.

-Freso 14:44, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

I'm sorry if the deletion seemed somewhat abrupt. What you have to bear in mind is that the category structure here is fairly well established, having developed over the course of more than 2 years. While I can understand your thinking behind "per-game" categories, this would actually constitute quite a dramatic shift in the structure of the wiki. The problem with such broad categories is that, unless they contain everything from that game, they are ineffecive. And one mustn't underestimate the task of adding a new category to hundreds of pages without missing any... (beware of this as you build the Places categories!) The preferred direction here has been to make all per-game related articles accesible either directly from each game article, or else via specific sub-pages within the Listings section. I hope you won't take it personally, and I think your contributions so far have been very valuable. --Adam 15:59, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
Well, I see what you mean with that being a tough task - if you want every single directly applicable category listed on every article. But you don't need to - you have category inheritance for that! So, for instance, Category:The Great Sea belongs to Category:Places in TWW which in turns belongs to Category:Places. This means that Category:The Great Sea is under Category:Places as well, and thus any article belonging to Category:The Great Sea also implicitly belongs to both Category:Places in TWW and thus, again, Category:Places. Having Category:Places in TWW listed under Category:TLoZ: TWW would then mean that everything under Category:Places in TWW (including, for example, articles in Category:The Great Sea) would also implicitly belong to Category:TLoZ: TWW. Not only would this give a very clean and very flexible category structure[1], it would also mean less cruft in the category sections of the articles. But these are just my two Rupees.
Also, thank you for your comment on my contributions in general. :) -Freso 17:28, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
  1. E.g., MediaWiki's Category:Extensions is an excellent example of this.

The amount of pages we have here would make that confusing and make pages difficult to categorize. Not to mention the category list on some pages would go for three to four lines. --Knil 19:51, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

Do you have any idea when the thumbnail issue will be fixed? It's been annoying me. Thanks. --Hisak 11:36, 23 September 2007 (EDT)

I'm afraid not, that's up to Jason. I'm sure he's working on it though. --Adam 12:30, 23 September 2007 (EDT)

It's not actually gone; it was never there. A few errors were made when someone split the Ganon page, which left some red links and incorrect image filenames. I've fixed it up now. --Adam 14:59, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

Okay, thanks for that. - Dead with a corpse; --Garo Ninja 10:23, 26 September 2007 (EDT)

Wave of spam edits and gibberish

Hey there. You notice that giant wall of edits I did earlier? It was all undoing at least a dozen insertions of gibberish into the articles. I undid the offending edits, but was wondering if there was anything you could do about the perpetrators? They were all anons with only their IP addresses up. Dinosaur bob 17:12, 12 October 2007 (EDT)

I wish it was that simple! I can block each individual IP address, but they don't get reused so it's pretty pointless. This used to happen all the time, but they were inserting random weblinks. Jason managed to stop it by setting up a captcha to block automatic edits containing weblinks, so now they have resorted to just inserting random junk! I've asked Jason if there is any way to stop this, but I think it may mean we have to block all edits from users not logged in. --Adam 17:40, 12 October 2007 (EDT)
So until you guys figure something out, I should just continue to get rid of the junk I see, right? Dinosaur bob 17:53, 12 October 2007 (EDT)
To be honest, I have a faster way to do it than you (I can rollback any edit in one click), and i promise I'll be checking every day :) But if you do still wanna help out, one thing to watch out for; sometimes as well as adding the junk at the start of the article, they also insert random characters in the text body, so it's best to always use the undo button to make sure everything is removed. Thanks for your enthusiasm, and hopefully we'll have a fix soon! --Adam 01:57, 13 October 2007 (EDT)
All right, duly noted.Dinosaur bob 17:17, 13 October 2007 (EDT)

Help!

I created the acount Midna Fan so I would actualy have a real acount. Well when I made it I thought all my contributions as 76.176.215.76 would appear on my new acounts user page. I was wrong. Is there any way for my contributions as 76.176.215.76 can be put on Midna Fan's user page without it being considered vandalisim? Please help.--76.176.215.76

You could log in as Midna fan and add [[Special:Contributions/76.176.215.76]] to your user page, to link to your contributions while not logged in. The only way to make sure your future contributions show up under your name is to remember to always log in! (or just select remember me, to stay permanently logged in on that computer) --Adam 08:36, 27 October 2007 (EDT)

Hey there!

First let me just say that the help you do for the wiki is truly a godsend, especially when I cannot be around (such as during November, which is National Novel Writing Month for me). I hope you can keep up this awesome work just a tad longer... I'm gathering some news people for ZU and I'ma have them mirror their newsposts on th wiki. The main page will now always look up-to-date. So, don't think you're modding a dead wiki ;) --Jase 07:50, 18 November 2007 (EST)

Well hello, long time no speak :) Good to hear about the news sections, sounds like a great idea. And I don't think we have to worry about the wiki being dead (er even dying off). Since the launch of PH, the number of daily edits have exploded, and i've lost count of the number of new users we've gained. --Adam 08:03, 18 November 2007 (EST)

Quote

Can I put your quote to Zeldalover "You are right my actions were not freindly. That is because I am not you freind" on my user page? I cracked up when I read that quote. --Link Hero of Light

Sure! I have to say, that was one of my better comebacks; I seem to remember feeling more than a little annoyed after spending over an hour reverting blanked pages.... (just make sure you spell friend right :) --Adam 02:42, 19 November 2007 (EST)

Thanks. --Link hero of Light

Pictures

How do you insert pictures into articles? --Link hero of light

Did you try referring to the help section here? Or are you asking how to make images available (for use as described there) on the wiki? --Adam 00:31, 23 November 2007 (EST)
When I try to do that instead of a picture appearing something like this appears File:stage10_0700831a.jpgLink hero of light

Sorry to butt in but I think you're doing what I did when I came here. You can't directly link from other sites. You have to copy the picture and upload it from your computer. And make sure to save the picture as a .png, .jpg, or .gif. To do this. Go to paint and then on the bar where it says "Save as Type", choose one of the compatible image types. --Green

I have no idea what your saying so I'll just stick to writing. Thanks anyway. Link hero of light

Basically, if there's a picture you wanna insert into an article here:
  1. Save the picture on your computer.
  2. Click Upload File (that's over there on the left, below the search bar).
  3. Upload the picture you saved.
Let me know if you need more help. --Adam 03:03, 28 November 2007 (EST)

Then what do I do after I upload it? Sorry that I can't figure it out I had the same problem on The super mario wiki, but it's been a while since I've been on that site so I forgot how to upload pictures. Link hero of light

Well after you've uploaded the picture go to the article and either type this [ [ Image : (Your image here) ] ] (again without the spaces) or press the sixth user button thing that has an icon that looks like a picture with a white frame. If you want a frame just type [ [ Image : (Your image here) | frame ] ] or if you want to shrink the size into a thumb, just replace frame with "thumb".

As you can see the image with the frame is far away. By typing this: "|left" after typing "|frame" it will adjust itself to move to the left. Oh yeah you can also shrink the size by typing this: "|thumb" instead of typing "|frame". I hope you understand. Um sorry for messing up your talk page Adam after Link Hero of Light understands I'll clean it up. Oh yeah Link just a little note, you don't have to type out your name every time, the penultimate button on top that looks like a signature automatically does it for you. Don't worry about that strange writing that looks like lines and squiggles it. See I'm about to press it now....--Green 20:31, 28 November 2007 (EST)

Okay I got It now. Thanks for all your help. I'll also use my sig. Thanks again. --Link hero of light 16:42, 1 December 2007 (EST)

Okay cool I'll just clean this up then.--Green 17:10, 1 December 2007 (EST)

Trying to learn.

Hey Adamcox, right now I am learning about how wikipedias work and I would like to ask how as a Bureaucrat promotes a a user to a sysop. Could you help? - Dead without a corpse; Garo Ninja

As far as I know, bureaucrats have access to an additional option, something like "user rights" or "permissions", whereby they can set any user's permissions on the wiki to and from standard, sysop and bureacrat. I'm unsure of the details though, given that as a sysop I don't have access to that option; the best person to ask for more details would be Jason, or maybe Mases (he's been here a few times recently). --Adam 02:45, 27 November 2007 (EST)

Baby Goron

Do you know anything about the Baby Goron that is standing on the rock bridge in death mountain in the game twilight princess. I was playing around with the hawk and I acidently hit the poor baby goron and he blinked red (not a red spark like with enemys, he blinked red). I ran up to where he was to see if he was okay he said the samething he always says "Wow...I'm surpised you saw me up here, brother". Then as a wolf I talked to the hawk, unlike the baby goron he said something difrent than what he usally says to me on death mountain "Link, there is something near here" then he flys up to the cave where the rare chu is and then flys away. I already got the rare chu there so you would think the game would detect that...Anyway whats with the baby goron. If you don't know please tell me someone who would. Link hero of light

I'm afraid that baby Goron is a mystery to me as well. Maybe just a small Easter-Egg for the observant? I haven't been able to find any indication of why he's up there, or anything useful he can do etc. Also, like Green said above, you really should use the signature button to sign your posts. Not only is it faster than typing your name, it also links to your user page, and stamps the date and time next to it automatically (the same effect can be had by typing --~~~~). It's the second to last icon on the toolbar:

Help needed

I am seeing an edit war happening at the Pendants of Virtue article and Hyrulean Civil War article. To my shame, I am one of the parties involved, the other being Link87. Before this becomes to emberassing, could you give your opinion as a mod? Most info about how we look at things regarding the Hyrulean Civil War article can be found here. I just don't want a whole article to be nothing but (unsourced) speculation. As for the Pendants of Virtue article, I made a remark on its talk page, but he hasn't responded yet. Anyway, I'd like it if you (or someone else) would look at it and give your/his opinion. IfIHaveTo 10:51, 19 December 2007 (EST)

The whole timeline page is speulation there is no sources that say the wind waker the last game Ext--Zanramon 13:39, 19 December 2007 (EST)
I've replied here. And yes Zanramon, the Zelda Timeline article is speculation, however the entire notion of a "timeline" of the games is a fan-created subject which is not officially acknowledged, therefore it cannot be compared with this fan-based analysis of a specific in-game event.--Adam 15:32, 19 December 2007 (EST)

If I might add a small comment now that I see this, the whole series is exactly what it states itself to be: a Legend. Legends change over time and while some things remain constant about legends, some aspects of them are lost to time. And as we do not have Mr. Miyamoto coming forward with a master document yet, he expects the fans to pick apart the games and piece the history of the series together for themselves. In the absence of hard fact, you only have the facts you are presented with and reasonable logic as your tools to decipher the story. "Sources" outside the games and Miyamoto himself really don't exist as it is left up to the gamers to discover the series' history for themselves. A small degree of theory presented with the known facts however is good to stimulate thought and possibly generate new ideas concerning the vast amount of topics to debate in the series. Link87 15:36, 19 December 2007 (EST)

Correct on all counts; a small amount of theory can be productive and interesting. Which is why I suggested that in my comment here. However, the article as it stood was almost entirely theory, with the actual facts lost in-amongst it. As this is a wiki, we must always place the greater emphasis on fact. --Adam 15:41, 19 December 2007 (EST)

I don't see where it was "lost" though, man. It was put together step by step, even telling where in the other games to look for them. They were all facts just put together in a certain way. I am happy that it's being kept somewhere in the article, however I disagree that it's being put out of the main article because it was merely a rough idea of how it could possibly go, and not many people will see it where it is now. I think it being moved was unnecessary. Also yes, you are right that "almost" all of the article was speculation, but speculation generated from what we do know about the war. If you remove the speculation (which as someone else pointed out is how most of us discover the series' story) then you almost have nothing left for the article anyway. I think it's unnecessary to move it because it could generate some new thought in case someone else has forgotten something about the war that we don't know. Link87 15:44, 19 December 2007 (EST)

By rights, the article should contain very little, because very little factual information is known. I think you're posting this information in the wrong place. If you're looking to "generate new thought" with a "rough idea of how it could possibly go", why not post it to the ZU forums, where it can be discussed properly and openly without provoking conflicts in intention such as this. It could then simply be included for what it is, with an external link in the article to this "One possible theory on the war". --Adam 15:54, 19 December 2007 (EST)

On the contrary, I feel an article should contain as much information as possible conerning a topic, and as I said before, most of it was fact, not fiction. Yes, it can be taken to the forums as you said and is a good idea. However, I still don't feel it's necessary to remove a possible theory that is based on facts alone and even pointed out just to appease a disgruntled user that doesn't like to go to the sources to look up the information for him or herself. But if that is how it must be, then I suppose that would be fine with me, although as I said I feel it would be more beneficial to the community for it to remain in the article in its own theory section considering that it has all the "sources" a zelda article can since the series is one big "legend" after all. Nintendo Articles

I really don't like having so many non-zelda related articles on the wiki. Can you get rid of the rule that allows nintendo/non-zelda articles? --Link hero of light 00:57, 23 December 2007 (EST)

I agree its geting stupid with people making articles about any nintendo game this is supposed to be a zelda wiki but its not if peeps keep on puting nintendo stuff on--zanramon 06:05, 23 December 2007 (EST)

As I see it, the "problem" is one of crossover. The Zelda games are undeniably linked with other Nintendo games; from the many obvious references in Link's Awakening to small easter eggs such as Malon's Bowser pendant, Nintendo have always shown a sense of fun with the inclusion of elements from other games.
However, the main source of non-Zelda content is The Super Smash Bros. series; since Link and Zelda feature in these games, they must form part of the wiki. The question is, how far should this extend? At the moment, the guidelines allow information about any and all content featured in any SSB game. Looking at your user page Link hero of light I can see that you're a fan, and I'm sure that you'd be happy for this to remain the case? The problem seems to arise when another degree of separation is added, e.g Fox McCloud is acceptable, whereas Krystal is less so (being related to Fox, but not having appeared directly in any game alongside Link).
I'm happy to apply the rules a little more strictly (perhaps slightly rewording the guidelines) if that's the general consensus, but by the very nature of the games, this content isn't something which can simply be ignored. In short, it's a policy which Jason has vehemently defended, and I won't change the entire ethos of the wiki by "getting rid" of it. Otherwise I may as well just delete Category:Misc while I'm at it! --Adam 14:08, 23 December 2007 (EST)

Okay I understand, but can they be more breif? What about non-nintendo articles like Resident Evil 4. That game is not a Nintendo game, could that article and similar articles be deleted? I think articles like the Animal Crossing article, the Star Fox article ect. should be allowed since Fox/Mr. Resetti appear in games that have Link, Zelda, Ganon ect. but they should be much more breif. Also, it dosen't make sense that articles about secondary/minor characters from non-zelda games like Lord Crump are on the wiki, when much more major characters from the same game that Crump is in like, Kammy Koopa, Sir Grodus and more are not on the wiki. --Link hero of light 14:28, 23 December 2007 (EST)

By rights articles like Resident Evil 4 and Lord Crump can and should be deleted. For me, it all comes down to what articles link to it. Only Nintendo DS links to RE4 (so it was probably only created by someone filling a red link). Conversely, if you look at what links to Super Mario Brothers it would be stupid to delete it. It's a valid reference since it's directly linked to the Zelda games, and deleting it would just leave red links, so it would be created again in the future anyway. At some point I'll go through the list of Articles for Deletion and clear out those that don't comply with the guidelines, and move back those that do. All I ask is that in future, just take a moment to consider why an article is here before calling for its removal. --Adam 14:32, 23 December 2007 (EST)

Okay I will, I'll also remove some of the deletion flags I placed. --Link hero of light 15:34, 23 December 2007 (EST)
