"Impa and the Geoglyphs" is a Main Quest in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

At New Serenne Stable, Link can encounter Cado and his Donkey looking out toward the North Hyrule Plain. He is relieved to see that Link has reappeared after going missing, but he then asks where Zelda is.[2] Upon hearing Link's explanation, he is shocked to hear that she is still unaccounted for.[3] Cado suggests that Link speak with Impa, who is investigating the Geoglyph on the North Hyrule Plain.[4] He believes that she could be able to help Link find Zelda.[5] Following this conversation, "Impa and the Geoglyphs" will begin.[note 1]

Impa's introduction

Link can meet with Impa on the North Hyrule Plain, where she is attempting to figure out what the Geoglyph is depicting.[8] When Link approaches her, she is surprised to see him after his absence.[9] Impa is relieved that he is returned, and she asks where Zelda is.[10] Upon hearing that she is still missing, Impa declares that they must continue to search for her.[11] She explains that when the Upheaval began, Geoglyphs appeared all throughout Hyrule, and she and Cado have been traveling to investigate them.[12] During her travels, Impa saw the Geoglyph on the North Hyrule Plain from a distance, but she is unable to tell what it depicts up close.[13] She attempted to view it from the Sky using her Hot-Air Balloon, but the Wind detached the Balloon from its Basket.[14]

Using Ultrahand, Link will be able to realign the Balloon to the Basket and attach the two pieces. Similarly, if he already has Autobuild and obtained the Hot-Air Balloon Schema Stone, he will be able to automatically reassemble the pieces. Once Link has fixed Impa's Hot-Air Balloon, she will thank him for doing so and invite him to view the Geoglyph with her.[15] If Link agrees, Impa asks him to light a Fire beneath the Balloon so they can float.[16] Link can use the nearby Torch to bring Fire from Impa's Campfire to the Balloon. He can also throw Items related to Fire below the Balloon, such as a Fire Fruit or a Ruby.

After lighting a Fire in Impa's Hot-Air Balloon, she and Link will begin to float into the Sky.[17] In the air, Impa begins to feel faint.[18] Despite this, she is excited to finally see the entire Geoglyph.[19] She claims that she read a Book in Kakariko Village that described images being drawn around Dragon's Tears, and while she believes this could be referring to the Geoglyphs, she is unable to discern much more than that.[20] Since the Geoglyphs could be connected to Zelda, Impa suggests that Link try to find the Geoglyph's Dragon's Tear, telling him he can return to the ground with his Paraglider if he needs to.[21]

Returning to the North Hyrule Plain, Link will be able to find a puddle in the Geoglyph's left eye. When he examines it, Recall will activate on his Right Arm, which causes the Dragon's Tear to float and begin to glow. This triggers the "Where Am I?" Memory. Once the Memory ends, "Impa and the Geoglyphs" will be completed.

Objectives

Stage Description
1 Cado told you that Impa is traveling Hyrule to see the so-called geoglyphs that have appeared across the land. He said she's at New Serenne Stable and that he's going there to join her.

If you meet her there, you may be able to get a clue about Princess Zelda's whereabouts.
2 You saw Cado at New Serenne Stable and told him about your search for Princess Zelda. He said you should meet with Impa, who is at some ruins very close by.

She may have information about Princess Zelda's whereabouts.
3 Impa was investigating a geoglyph near New Serenne Stable. She's frustrated because it's impossible to see the full picture from the ground.

If you fix the broken balloon she told you about, you might be able to get a bird's-eye view.
4 You hitched a ride on the balloon and saw the whole geoglyph from the air. According to Impa, hidden somewhere in the geoglyph is something called a Dragon's Tear.

Search the most likely spot to find it.
Complete You found a pool in a geoglyph that was likely one of the Dragon's Tears. Upon touching it, you had a strange vision about Princess Zelda.

Impa believes that the Dragon's Tears are connected to the princess in some way. Go in search of every geoglyph to find more clues about what's happened to her.

Notes

  1. It is also possible to start "Impa and the Geoglyphs" by speaking to Cado at either Kakariko Bridge or Thims Bridge. He informs Link that Impa is investigating the Geoglyphs, since she believes they could lead to clues about Zelda.[6] Cado then reveals that he is on his way to catch up with Impa who is waiting for him at New Serenne Stable.[7]

I'm in a hurry to meet with Lady Impa, but I can't go anywhere nearly as fast as she can in her balloon. Let's see... New Serenne Stable is just a little to the northwest of central Hyrule. 12. "Link, when Princess Zelda went missing, something else happened all over Hyrule. During the Upheaval, huge pictures appeared out of nowhere, images that sprawled across fields and hills. We are calling them geoglyphs. I understand they have been found in locations across the kingdom. Cado and I are traveling from region to region in hopes of seeing them all." — Impa (Tears of the Kingdom)
  13. "I noticed this geoglyph from a distance while I was standing on high ground. Examining it up close, I could not make out what it depicted." — Impa (Tears of the Kingdom)
  14. "I thought I might have a better view from up in the sky. I took to the air in the balloon Purah gave me, but then, alas... The wind struck and completely sheared the balloon off the base. I have racked my brain for ways to reattach the two parts, to no avail." — Impa (Tears of the Kingdom)

  18. "Too high up... I feel faint..." — Impa (Tears of the Kingdom)

  20. "You know, I read something in the village's old literature—a passage about what the ancients called Dragon's Tears. "Where the Tears rest upon the earth, we marked down the images to which they gave birth." I believe this geoglyph is one such "image." But even from this vantage, its meaning is no clearer to me. Nor can I figure out what "Dragon's Tears" might be." — Impa (Tears of the Kingdom)
  21. "But you know...if the literature is correct, one of them should be quite close—near the geoglyph, or even within its borders. Would you look around? This could be the clue we need to discover Princess Zelda's whereabouts. If you would like to examine the geoglyph from ground level, you can float down with a paraglider. No need to worry about me. I can manage a simple landing." — Impa (Tears of the Kingdom)
