Zelda.com is the official The Legend of Zelda site owned by Nintendo. The website operates as a hub for all official The Legend of Zelda information.

History

In 2001, a dubious interpretation of the Zelda Timeline, written by Nintendo of America translator Dan Owsen,[citation needed] was published on the site. The timeline placed the then-released games in the following order: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, Link's Awakening, all occurring within the lifetime of the Hero of Time.[3] The timeline page was removed from the site in 2002.[4]

In 2018, an interactive version of the official timeline (as described in Hyrule Historia and then Encyclopedia) was added following a site redesign.[5]

The Great Hyrule Encyclopedia

From 2002 to 2016, Zelda.com featured a webpage called the "The Great Hyrule Encyclopedia".[6][7] The encyclopedia was riddled with false and dubious claims that conflicted with the series' canon or were otherwise uncorroborated.

Agahnim Agahnim imprisons the Seven Sages.[8] Agahnim imprisons the seven Maidens, who are the descendants of the Seven Sages.
Agahnim Agahnim used his magic "to break the seal which imprisoned Ganon in the Dark World."[8] The imprisonment of all seven Maidens is what breaks the seal on the Dark World.[citation needed]
Bombers Gang The "Bombers Gang" consists of "young boys with little else to do than cause trouble and goof around."[9] The Bombers' stated goal is to help others.[10][11][12]

The group is never called the "Bombers Gang" in-game or anywhere else.

Carnival of Time Terminians celebrate the Carnival of Time to "honor time, and to remind themselves that every second should be savored."[13] The Carnival of Time is a celebration of the yearly alignment of the sun and moon.[14]
Clock Town Clock Town is the "capitol city of Termina." Though Clock Town is located in the center of Termina and is its most populous settlement, there is nothing to indicate that it exercises political control over any of the four outer regions. Each region appears to be self-governed.
Crystals Link breaks the barrier of Ganon's Tower using the power of the seven Crystals in A Link to the Past.[15] The seven Maidens break the barrier of Ganon's Tower – the Crystals only hold the Maidens captive.[16]
Daria The encyclopedia exclusively refers to they enemy as "Daria."[17] The correct spelling is "Daira."[18]
Death Mountain Crater The entry for Death Mountain Crater links to the site's page for The Legend of Zelda.[17] Death Mountain Crater is in Ocarina of Time, not The Legend of Zelda.
Gerudo Ganondorf was "the only man ever allowed into [the] ranks" of the Gerudo.[19] A Gerudo male is born every hundred years and is declared king by law.[20]
Gleeok "Gleeock" is a two-headed dragon in The Legend of Zelda.[21] In The Legend of Zelda, Gleeok has two to four heads depending on the dungeon.

The correct spelling is "Gleeok."[22]

Gohdan Gohdan is described as a "mysterious creature".[23] Gohdan is a machine, not a live creature.[24]
Golden Land The Golden Land is "forever ruined" when Ganondorf enters it and transforms it into the Dark World.[25] The Sacred Realm is restored at the end of A Link to the Past.[26]
Grandma Link's Grandma gives him the Hero's Clothes to help him on his journey.[27] Grandma gives Link the Hero's Clothes out of tradition on the day he comes of age, before Aryll is captured and Link sets out on his journey.[28]
Hero of Time The title "Hero of Time" is ascribed to the Link in The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, Four Swords, and The Minish Cap.[29] The title "Hero of Time" applies only to the Link in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.
Hero's Clothes The Hero's Clothes are "the traditional garb of boys 12 and older on Outset Island."[30] Satoru Iwata later confirmed in an Iwata Asks that the Hero of Time is 9 years in Ocarina of Time,[31] which means that boys on Outset Island would also receive the Hero's Clothes at age 9, upon becoming the same age as the Hero of Time.[28]
Koholint Island Koholint Island is "believed to lie far off the coast of Eastern Hyrule in the Great Sea" and there is some debate as to whether it truly exists.[32] Koholint Island was since confirmed to be dream world created by the Wind Fish in Link's Awakening, with no relation to Hyrule or the Great Sea.[33][34][35]
Magic Hammer The Hammer in The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, and Four Swords Adventures is treated as if it were the Megaton Hammer.[36][37] The Megaton Hammer exists only in Ocarina of Time.[38]
Magical Shield The Magical Shield from The Adventure of Link is treated as if it were the Mirror Shield.[39] The Mirror Shield is not in The Adventure of Link.[40]
Magic Sword The Magic Sword from in The Adventure of Link is treated as if it were the Master Sword.[41] Master Sword is not in The Adventure of Link.[40]
Medli Medli is "a Rito princess."[42] Medli is an apprentice attendant to Valoo.[43][44] She is never ascribed the title "princess" by other Rito, nor is there any indication that she is related by blood to the Rito Chieftain or Prince Komali.
Megaton Hammer "Megaton" is the "brand name" of the hammer.[45] The Megaton Hammer is a legendary relic.[46]
Pendants of Virtue This entry states that Link collects the Pendants of Virtue upon his return from Termina, and that 100 years had passed in Kingdom of Hyrule while he was away.[47] The since-released official timeline has A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask in separate timelines experienced by different incarnations of Link.[48] The encyclopedia's statement that 100 years had passed also contradicts the previous timeline posted on the site, which has Link living with his uncle upon his return from Termina.[3]
Termina Termina is one of the millions of alternate worlds created due to an unanticipated side effect of the Creation of Hyrule by the three Golden Goddesses.[49] Aside from the Sacred Realm, alternate worlds do not factor into the Creation Myth described in canon media.
Zola "Zolas" are female Zora who chose a live of violence.[50] Though the The Legend of Zelda manual does describe "Zolas" as half-fish and half-woman,[51] Oracle of Ages is the only game to feature both types of Zora. In Oracle of Ages the friendly river Zoras and the docile sea Zoras are ostensibly different species.[52]
Zora Zora evolved from fish in Zora's Fountain, which was blessed by the Golden Goddesses during the Creation of the World.[53] No origin story is ascribed to the Zora elsewhere in The Legend of Zelda series.
