The Megaton Hammer is a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3][name references needed]

Location and Uses

Ocarina of Time

The Megaton Hammer is found in the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time. It is used to break certain Boulders and smash in rusted Switches. It can also be used to smash blocks for access to new areas and to open Secret Grottoes. It does as much damage as the Master Sword, but it has slow speed compared to Link's Swords. It can be used against certain enemies, such as Tektites, to flip them over and attack them. If used on the ground close to a wall with a Skullwalltula, it will knock the spider off and defeat it without hitting it directly. Due to its weight, it requires both of Link's hands to wield.[4][5]

According to Goron legends, a mythic hero of the Gorons and an ancestor to Darunia, patriarch of the Gorons, used the Megaton Hammer in battle against Volvagia. Wielding it, he was victorious and sealed the dragon in the fires of Death Mountain.[6] Thus, it is necessary to defeat Volvagia. The Megaton Hammer is also effective in the final battle with Ganon for attacking his tail.

Other Appearances

SoulCalibur II

The Megaton Hammer is one of Link's weapons in SoulCalibur II. Paired off with the Hylian Shield, the Megaton Hammer can be bought either in the Altair Shop or the Benetnasch Shop for 1,200 Gold while playing the Weapon Master Mode. The Megaton Hammer has a short reach; however, this is countered with the fact that Link's offense increases to 135%.[7]

Cost Attributes Description
1,200 Gold Offense goes up 35%
Short reach
An extremely heavy hammer. Learning to use it effectively could take some time, as its reach is somewhat short for a weapon. Its power and toughness, however, far exceed that of any normal sword. It's guaranteed to inspire awe.

Hyrule Warriors

The Megaton Hammer appears as the third-tier version of Darunia's Hammer.

Cadence of Hyrule

The Megaton Hammer appears as part of the Symphony of the Mask DLC pack. It allows the wielder to deal three damage to a single enemy directly in front of them, as well as granting them the ability to destroy objects such as stone slabs.[8]
