What is it?

Some info that will be added to the cooking page 👨‍🍳. It'll probably be added to Technical & Effect Calculation section, while also replacing some information.

Where I got the info?

All the data and info here were extracted from this Reddit post by u/CobaltAlchemist and from this data-mined information from the game. I didn't do extensive testing but the ones I did worked all as intended, so the info must be accurate enough.

What I would like to change in the main Cooking page?

Some information on the cooking page were incomplete, some were different from the information on my source and some would be redundant after adding this new "advanced information". To keep things documented (and organized for myself) I'll try to summarize what I would like to change/remove from the page, so it's easier to see each change I intended and accept/reject them individually.

All these changes were made in the cooking page on my sandbox.

Third paragraph in the overview section

It's not completely wrong, it's just that It was not clear enough that you can actually put dish ingredients and dish enhancers in elixirs and still not get dubious food. I wrote the information there in a new section under cooking mechanics.

Second paragraph of the elixirs section

This information is right, but it would be redundant since I added them in the "ingredients potency" and "effect duration". Maybe this should be removed so we don't have the same information twice. Another option is to make it into fewer words, so who's reading can get a simple idea about monster parts, but without the details, and if they want detailed information, it would be in the cooking mechanics section I made.

I think the sections "dishes" and "elixirs" should just provide a short overview about what is what, and not explain some more complex game mechanics.

New section about dishes and elixirs

I think it'd be interesting to have a section explaining that dishes and elixirs are actually just cosmetically different, since their effects are 100% defined only by the ingredients used. So I made this section.

Dish enhancers section

This section will be redundant because of the "dish enhancers" section I added. Also fairies aren't dish enhancers, since they don't provide time boost besides the 30 seconds.

Effects section

The information here would be redundant since the sections I added explain all the details of all the ingredients in the game. Maybe there could be a table here that shows each ingredient for each effect, without more detailed information, just for a quick look or something like that? That's what I did in my sandbox but this section could be removed entirely if it seems too redundant.

Technical & Effect Calculation section

This is where major changes take place. Starting with the section name, I think the section should be named "Advanced Cooking Mechanics" (or just "Cooking Mechanics"? Maybe "Advanced" is too much idk) to make clearer to the reader what content is located there.

Simple things first: The paragraphs about critical cook and monster extract should have their own sub-section here, but the information there was actually right-ish, so no change was made on their content.

Besides that, basically everything was changed. Most information weren't wrong but were incomplete and/or kinda confusing.

The section bellow is kind of a draft. To see the page changed as I intended check my cooking sandbox.

Cooking Mechanics

Hearts Regeneration

The amount of Hearts a recipe can regenerate is double the amount of Hearts the ingredients would restore if consumed raw. If the ingredient is just roasted, it'll be able to restore just 50% more Hearts than the raw ingredient.

Elixirs and Dishes

There are four types of ingredients: basic ingredients, dish enhancers, critters and monster parts.

For a recipe to be a dish, only basic ingredients and/or dish enhancers should be used.

For a recipe to be a Elixir, at least one critter and one monster part should be used. Note that basic ingredients and dish enhancers can be added to a Elixir without a problem.

If a recipe has critter but doesn't have a monster part, have monster parts but doesn't have a critter, have two or more ingredients with different effects or have materials that are not ingredients (e.g. Flint), the result will be either Dubious Food or Rock-Hard Food.

Note that some dish enhancers, like Rock Salt, if used alone, will result in Dubious Food or Rock-Hard Food.

Note on Elixirs and Dishes

It's important to know that the difference between Elixirs and Dishes is purely cosmetic, since the effects obtained and Hearts restored by the recipe are defined only by the ingredients used.

Time-Based Effects

Most effects can be low, mid or high tier (some having only low and mid tier). The sum of the ingredients' potency points will define the effect's tier.

If the sum of potency points of a recipe is equal or greater than the high threshold, the recipe will have a high tier effect. If the sum is equal or greater than the mid threshold and is less than the high threshold (or if the effect doesn't have high tier), the recipe's effect will be mid tier. If the sum is less than the mid threshold, the recipe will have a low tier effect.

Effects Potency Thresholds

The following shows how much potency points a recipe should have to achieve mid or high level effect for each possible effect. Points bellow the mid threshold will result in a low level effect. It's not possible to get high level for some effects.

Effect Name Mid Threshold High Threshold
Attack Up 5 7
Defense Up 5 7
Speed Up 5 7
Stealth Up 6 9
Fireproof 7 -
Cold Resistance 6 -

Effect Duration

WILL ADD SOME MORE INFO

Effects Time Bonus

Besides adding to the effect's potency, adding more ingredients with the same effect to the recipe will provide a bonus duration (besides the 30 seconds that counts for each ingredient used). This bonus varies for each effect, as shown in the table bellow.

Effect Duration Bonus
Attack Up 0:20
Defense Up 0:20
Speed Up 0:30
Stealth Up 1:30
Fireproof 2:00
Cold Resistance 2:00
Heat Resistance 2:00
Shock Resistance 2:00

Dish Enhancers

Some ingredients have a special time boost associated to them, that will add to the recipe's duration besides the 30 seconds of each ingredients. These ingredients are know as "Dish Enhancers" and are shown bellow.

Time Boost Ingredients
0:10 Chickaloo Tree Nut
0:20 Acorn
0:30 Hylian Rice, Rock Salt, Tabantha Wheat
0:50 Cane Sugar, Fresh Milk, Goat Butter
1:00 Bird Egg, Any Dragon Scale, Goron Spice, Star Fragment
3:00 Any Dragon Claw
10:00 Any Dragon Fang
Sets duration to 30:00 Any Dragon Horn

Not Time-Based Effects

This section deals with effects that are not time-based. These effects are Stamina Regen, Extra Max Stamina and Extra max Hearts.

Extra Hearts

The effect of extra maximum Hearts is pretty simple. Each "hearty" ingredient have it's own amount of extra Hearts that will be added to the recipe's effect. The total extra Hearts provided by a recipe is the sum of each individual ingredients' value. Also, every recipe that provides extra Hearts will also regenerate all of Link's Hearts.

The table bellow lists the extra Hearts provided by each hearty ingredient.

Effect and Potency Provided Ingredients
1 Extra Heart Hearty Truffle
2 Extra Hearts Hearty Bass
3 Extra Hearts Hearty Blueshell Snail, Hearty Radish
4 Extra Hearts Big Hearty Truffle, Hearty Durian, Hearty Lizard, Hearty Salmon
5 Extra Hearts Big Hearty Radish

Effects Potency Thresholds

Unlike the extra heart effect, the extra stamina and stamina regeneration work based on the recipe's potency, just like the time-based effects, The major difference being that there are a lot more thresholds, so there will be a lot of possible effects' "strength", and not only low, mid and high tier.

The sum of the ingredients' potency points in a recipe must pass a certain threshold for the equivalent effect strength to be obtained.

stamina Regeneration Thresholds

The table bellow shows the potency threshold for the Stamina regeneration effect of recipes.

Threshold Amount of Stamina Wheels regenerated.
1 1/5

7 1+4/5
8 2+1/5
