Template:Character Error is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Biography

The Adventure of Link

In The Adventure of Link, Error is a citizen of Ruto Town. At first, Error only introduces himself when talked to,[4] but after Link meets a second man in Mido Town and is encouraged to ask Error about how to get to the Island Palace,[5] Error will tell Link about the passage to the palace south of the king's tomb.[6]

The sprite design for Error is used for characters in other towns who can sometimes be similarly unhelpful,[7] although a few of them give Link very useful hints about using the Fire Spell or finding the Three-Eye Rock Palace.[8][9]

Other Appearances

Cadence of Hyrule

In Cadence of Hyrule, Error lives alone in a house outside of Hyrule.[note 1] When talked to by Link, Zelda, Cadence and Yves, he simply introduces himself.[3] Inside his house, he sells Boots of Speed for 500 Rupees, which allow movement free of the influence of Octavo's Golden Lute.

Defenders of the Triforce

Though Error doesn't directly appear in Defenders of the Triforce, a Sign bearing his iconic quote was used as a prop during photo shoots with the Master Sword for players who failed to stop Ganondorf in the allotted time at Defenders of the Triforce events.[2]

Nomenclature

"My name is Error..."

Error's name is meant to form a pun with that of Bagu whose name is the Japanese spelling of "(computer) bug." In the Japanese version of The Adventure of Link, Error makes the less vague statement "My name is Error..." (Ore no na wa Erā da...).[10] His name is written エラー (Erā), the Japanese way of writing the English word "error." Only Error's name properly transferred over during the English localization.

Notes

  1. Error's house is only accessible by exploiting quirks of the Cadence of Hyrule's engine to go out of the bounds of the Overworld map. Due to the way the game generates the Overworld, not every file is be able to access the house.
