Defenders of the Triforce is a Zelda-themed live action role playing adventure built in collaboration with the Japanese company SCRAP.

Overview

Defenders of the Triforce created teams of six people who collaborate to solve puzzles, collect items, and save the world. The event was held in eight American cities and six Canadian cities beginning January 31, 2017, and ending July 9, 2017. The timing coincided with the release of the Nintendo Switch and Breath of the Wild on March 3, 2017. The live action adventure used the puzzle solving aspect of The Legend of Zelda series to immerse players in the event which includes recurring items of the franchise. SCRAP boasted a 10% success rate of players who complete all of the challenges in its promotional material. It was available exclusively in English and French.

How to Play

The events lasted one hour each. Although 100 to 240 people played simultaneously, each team of six acted on their own and could not team up with or compete with each other. An MC guided the teams through the story and the goal.[1] Each team had its own table but needed to explore the entire game space in order to find all of the clues.[2] Teams which did not escape could choose to receive the solutions at the end of the event.[3] No prizes were given to those who completed the challenge, but all players were invited to an event following the game featuring video trailers and merchandise.
