Notice Templates by Game

Hey William,

Thanks for helping out with this project. It's much appreciated. :) — Hylian King [*] 06:47, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Of course, I am happy to help out! User:WilliamLC/sig 06:49, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

New Project

So here's that new template I was talking about: Template:Exp Game. The goal is to replace instances of Template:Exp with this new template, in infoboxes and Names in Other Regions. Like so.

See Template:Exp Game for more info on why this is an important step forward. If you have any questions please let me know.

Hope you're interested in helping out! (It's totally cool if you aren't, though.) — Hylian King [*] 05:23, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

References Sections

Please stop inserting new reference sections reliant on the non-existant template "Template:Reflist". Most, if not all, articles have reference sections already, and those sections should already be making use of the existant templates Template:Ref and Template:Refbar depending on the article's needs (if they're not, they should be converted to one of them). --Shiningpikablu252 (talk) 20:10, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I didn't know I was doing that. Must have been something AWB was doing. Still ironing out the bugs with that. User:WilliamLC/sig 22:20, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
My bad, I forgot to tell you to disable "general fixes" in the Options tab. Most of these do not apply to Zelda Wiki and should not be used.
Also, you might want to change the AWB script to remove two empty newlines above the Reflist section. Your edits are leaving two extra new lines in the article that can cause gaps. Example Not a big deal, but still... — Hylian King [*] 02:09, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I figured that out. I unchecked it the first time I ran it, but I was rushing around so much this morning that I forgot to uncheck it, so now I have it set to remove it (The reflist that it added). At least half of the pages I told it to edit (4000 pages) have already been processed, so I don't think changing the rule now will make too much of a difference. User:WilliamLC/sig 02:26, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
No worries. Are you using a text replace to remove reflist? — Hylian King [*] 02:34, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes. Why, is that bad? User:WilliamLC/sig 02:38, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
No, it's fine. But if you could modify it so that it removes the two extra newlines, that would be great. If not, don't worry about it. I've set a bot to remove them. — Hylian King [*]
How would I fix that, just put two lines before the piece I need to get rid of? User:WilliamLC/sig 02:45, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
Precisely. — Hylian King [*] 02:51, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, I just set it. What do you have your auto save delay set at? User:WilliamLC/sig 03:13, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
I just set it to 0. Saving pages takes long enough on its own. — Hylian King [*] 03:28, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
For the record: the Refbar template has been rendered obsolete. Just wanted to follow up on Shiningpikablu's comment. - TonyT S C 20:59, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If that is the case, should I set the bot to remove it/change it to the Ref template? User:WilliamLC/sig 01:10, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
No need. Pakkun has already done it with the ReplaceText admin tool. It's a lot faster than AWB, although not nearly as versatile. — Hylian King [*] 03:34, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh I know. I'm trying to get my server guy to install it on my wiki, but he is just so busy. I assume it can also apply the appropriate game tags as well? User:WilliamLC/sig 07:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Really? It only takes a few seconds to download the extension and copy it onto the server...
ReplaceText can handle the game link templates, but only one game at a time. That means edits to over a thousand pages, several times over. I think it's a job better suited for AWB because it can handle all the games at once. — Hylian King [*] 07:33, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'd love to do it myself, that and a lot of other extensions would really help me out, but only he has server access. I'm hosted on a server I share with about 15 other sites and wikis, so maybe he just doesn't trust me enough.
It is quite a lot of pages, by the time AWB had processed pretty much every page on the Wiki (excluding community pages and non-canon pages) it had skipped more than 4000 pages and made almost 1500 edits.
So whats next on the list of things to do? User:WilliamLC/sig 19:54, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Well, we're going to have to get rid of Template:Bosses and Template:DungeonNav2 in favor of collapsible navigation templates by game (see Category:Dungeon Templates). You could help me make the new templates and replace the old ones with them. (All-game "master navs" seemed like a neat idea at the time, but now there's getting to be too many games and so the templates are too bulky.)
And of course there's still Template:Exp Game to implement. — Hylian King [*] 20:17, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'll see what I can do in regards to making templates,, but I can certaintly implement them. I was under the impression that someone else was doing Exp Game, based on what I saw in Recent Changes. I'll try to get back on the ball with regular editing once the whole E3 thing dies down a bit. User:WilliamLC/sig 20:27, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Material and Weapon image moves

Could you please process the following image rename-without-redirects?

If any of these won't work because of jpg to png conversion error, let me know and I can try to fix the files using GIMP. There might also be some problems with the ? in the name of the 8-Bit weapons, which probably means the file name will just have to drop that.KrytenKoro (talk) 17:29, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, sure. I'm on my 3DS right now, but I'll be getting on a computer pretty soon so I'll take care of those files then, unless one of the other admins wants to do it before I can. User:WilliamLC/sig 20:44, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Also, since you seem to be the one taking up the move work, should I go ahead and standardize the names on the costume page, or would that create undue work for you?KrytenKoro (talk) 21:43, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, go ahead with the standardization, just let me know the new naming scheme. I was unable to get to a computer this afternoon (I'm on my 3DS still), but I'll definitely be able to tomorrow morning. User:WilliamLC/sig 00:47, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I've just been going with "HW namefromgame.png" for everything else. I'll list the name changes, but note that it looks like some users have been renaming the images without dealing with the redirects, so there might be some cleanup in the "whatlinkshere". (example]])KrytenKoro (talk) 01:09, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, I've renamed the ones we have official names for (that I can verify); I left unchanged the TP and SS skins, which I don't have, and the TP DLC pack skins, which aren't out yet. Here.KrytenKoro (talk) 01:19, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not going to have nearly as much time here as I thought I would, and its looking like at best I wont be able to do anything major for another day or two. I'm moving into a new apartment so I'm going to be a little busy for the rest of today and likely a little bit tomorrow, so, those edits you made to the various HW pages, are you just renaming the images on them, just not moving the images? I just need to know what to go off of the next time I get on here. User:WilliamLC/sig 19:30, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
The three pages in question have the correct image names (meaning the pages are mostly full of currently broken links), but those images still need to be moved -- once the images have been moved, they should show up on the page without any further edits necessary. Also, just to make sure things are clear, the Link's Scarf image in the lead infobox should be a different image than the one in the tables.
As far as the costumes go, those have been used on pages outside of the costume page, so those will require edits -- however, I didn't want to get the staff coming down on me for temporarily leaving broken image links all over the wiki, so I haven't changed those yet. If you can let me know when you (or another admin, if you want to trade this off) are planning to start moving the images, I can go through and do all the remaining link corrections.KrytenKoro (talk) 20:29, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'd hold off in that case. I have a tool called ReplaceText that we admins use, so don't even worry about any of that stuff. Whatever you can't rename I can go through with ReplaceText and fix pretty easily. 05:31, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Alright, I'm officially in my apartment now. I'm going to get started with some of the moving now. 16:25, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Alright, so the Weapons page is fixed and the Materials page is partially fixed, so I'm gonna go take a break for a bit, let me know what else needs fixing. User:WilliamLC/sig 17:16, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
I don't quite understand what you were doing here. Was the "-fo's" thing intentional? Also, I thought the plan was to remove the non-standard "Icon" from the image names. Also, Zant's Scimatars images (and weapon name) are now named with "Scimitar" instead.
Basically, as I had understood the plan, the pages themselves would not need editing, as the links would be "correct" for after the image move.
I mean, I can change them all to end with "Icon", but then we'd have to move the ones that currently don't have that. So which naming scheme do you prefer, I guess?KrytenKoro (talk) 22:18, 26 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Either is fine. So many of the images already have it so I really don't want to have go through and remove it on so many images. Any new images uploaded/added should be named with the Icon thing. User:WilliamLC/sig 00:26, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
So I should rename all of them to use "Icon", then? It looks like with weapons, at least, there are more without Icon than with. I can perform the moves myself if that would help, leaving only deletion of the redirects for you.KrytenKoro (talk) 13:27, 28 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No, don't rename anything. Just leave it like it is. As I said, existing images are fine, new images must be renamed. User:WilliamLC/sig 18:27, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm glad you like it ~

I see your using the Gorons Tunic Render i did for HW, it makes me happy knowing you like it enough to use it as such. I hope that the renders I have provided are, at the very least, up to the wiki's standards.
Ixbran (talk) 03:16, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry to butt in but are you kidding me it's amazing *-*!!!! I saw someone linked to it outside the wiki and I was wondering who had done it...excellent job!! --Dany36 (talk) 03:21, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
thank you very much, I'm glad you approve.
Ixbran (talk) 03:27, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh yes it is quite nice, I just gotta say, wow. The amount of patience it must've taken to not only screenshot it at just the right frame, then do what I imagine would be hours upon hours of slaving in a photo editor, just wow. You did a great job, please keep it up! :) User:WilliamLC/sig 06:36, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you, I really appreciate knowing you approve of my work. I have to say really, the ones that took me the most time, are the ones I took screen shots during attack animations. Sheiks Dark Recolor, both of Agithas recolors, Darunias Darmani recolor. Other recolors involve them performing idle animations, or focus spirit activation animations. I was in the process of showing these too a friend as I worked on them, and she commented how all the work I put into these being a labor of love, and she is right. I am a huge fan of both DW and LoZ, and I wanted the wikis to have the recolor costumes, but I also wanted them to be interesting to look at. So I felt the hard work was all worth it if people enjoyed them.

and knowing you do appreciate the work I put into it does indeed make it worth it.

MM Pack Masks

If its alright with you, I'm just going to take screen shots of their victory animations of them in their masks. It seems like it'd be needlessly difficult to render their mask costumes, when its just their default costume with an accessory. I hope thats alright.

Live Action Legend of Zelda Netflix exclusive series announced

I figured this is something you needed to know, this is the Zelda Wiki after all.
Ixbran (talk) 01:42, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

sorry to be a bother

but could you help me with something? In Hyrule Warriors, Young Links in game description clearly states he is the same Link who starred in OoT/MM, so it makes sense from a reference point of view, all his abilities would borrow from OoT and MM. One of his abilities allows him to put on boots with wings, to let him move around quickly for an attack. I believe they are meant to be the Hover Boots, an item The Hero of Time actually had access too, while others are insisting they are the Pegasus Boots, which simply wouldn't make sense, since the Hero of Time never had them. the game clearly states the young Link in HW is the hero of time, so its obviously the hover Boots hes using, but others insist its the Pegasus Boots, and I need your help as an admin to end this.
Ixbran (talk) 15:07, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm just going to quickly respond here, since Will is busy and doesn't have as much time for the wiki. I've noticed in the section that it is mostly a debate between you and Pakkun. Since you're asking for the help of an admin, I'm assuming that you think Pakkun is a patroller, when he is in fact not. Pakkun is an admin and the wiki team leader. We've actually recently gotten rid of the Patroller rank altogether. Sorry for any misunderstandings there. - Midoro (T C) 18:18, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
