Dude

Hey HK, make sure to sign your comments with four tildes (like this ~~~~) when you're using talk pages. Your sig lets us know that you made the comment first of all, but also tells us at what time and day it was made. It's important - we use the sig and timestamp to see if the discussion is relevant or outdated. :) — ciprianotalk 11:06, 25 August 2010 (EDT)

Thanks!

All right, thanks for letting me know! I'm pretty new to this and I'm sure I've still got a lot to learn...Hmm, someone should probably check the pages I've edited to make sure I haven't screwed things up too badly :P Hylian King 12:41, 25 August 2010 (EDT)

No need to worry; there's people out here called "patrollers." What we do is check every edit for quality! That means we're already reviewing your edits as you make them :)User:Justin ZW/sig 13:26, 25 August 2010 (EDT)
Yeah, just a word of advice: your edit here I reverted because the tool tips are supposed to be there. Mandi Talk 02:48, August 27, 2010 (UTC)

Tool tips? Hylian King 06:53, 27 August 2010 (EDT)

Yeah, tool tips are neat little things that, when hovered over, display text in a box next to the cursor. We use them to explain things. Try it out by hovering over the words "tool tips" that are yellow!User:Justin ZW/sig 08:33, 27 August 2010 (EDT)
Ah yes, those. I removed them because I thought they were only necessary to identify things that are in several games but only applied to one particular one. What I mean is, let's say a particular enemy was found in Ganon's Tower, but only in the Ganon's Tower in the Wind Waker, then you would put a tool tip. That's why I removed the ones next to the dungeons because they are unique and only be found in one game. But, apparently I was wrong...Oh well! Hylian King 08:58, 27 August 2010 (EDT)

Figures

The figures at the start of your page (the ones with the Triforce and the Stones and Medallions symbols) are amazing. can I borrow one for my page, please? --K2L 20:22, 2 September 2010 (EDT)

NO!...Just kidding, go ahead. It's not like I made it anyways. It is rather nice, isn't it? Hylian King 20:34, 2 September 2010 (EDT)
Thanks! --K2L 20:48, 2 September 2010 (EDT)

Your assignment

I made you a pack of 7 images, ready for rendering. I also included a few goodies. You can pick it up here. I expect good work from you. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  06:33, 5 September 2010 (EDT)

I'll do my best. When I'm done, should I just go ahead and upload them or do you want me to send them back to you first? Hylian King 07:57, 5 September 2010 (EDT)
Do what you're most comfortable with. If you feel confident with your final results, upload them directly, otherwise send them over for checking. If you do upload them directly, make sure you give them good names. We want these to be found and identified easily if anyone searches for them. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  16:12, 5 September 2010 (EDT)
Well, here's the next pack of images. Six screenshots this time. Before you submit the images, check the quality of transparency by using a light background (eg. white) and a dark one (eg. #17456e, the color of the wiki). Keep up the good work. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  07:30, 13 September 2010 (EDT)

There are 8 this time. I know that you rendered a few of them the other day, but you know how bad those are. Not like mine are much better. :P I shoulda replied sooner but... It's completely my fault. Anyway, enjoy ^_^ (I gave you that Redead for torture purposes >:] ) — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  09:44, 21 September 2010 (EDT)

S'all good. It was good practice... By the way, I did my best with the Zill Figurine, but because of his retarded hands I fear my best wasn't enough. The image might need a do-over. Or we can just chop his hands off. Whatever. Hylian King 17:28, 22 September 2010 (EDT)

Trading Sequence articles

Hey! Just dropping in to say that you've been doing a great job at fixing all of those Trading sequence articles. :D They were in much need of help, but now they look A LOT better thanks to you, both in format and in the way that it's written. Thanks again and keep up the great work! B) Dany36 12:20, 5 September 2010 (EDT)

Thanks, that means a lot to me. And I know it's probably been a while since you've done it, but I've been meaning to thank you for uploading all those quality Nintendo Gallery Figurines. Not many people have the steam to do such a repetive task for so long. Kudos! Hylian King 12:45, 5 September 2010 (EDT)

Game Names

I've noticed you've had considerable trouble linking to games. I'd just like to point out that all of them have a space after the colon, you haven't been putting this in. This makes a redirect link and they're viewed as being rather sloppy and unprofessional. For example, it's The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and is not The Legend of Zelda:The Minish Cap. It's just better to have links go directly to the intended target rather than routed through a redirect. It's in our policy: here.Emma (Talk) 20:30, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry about that. Well, we'll have to fix my screw-ups as we go, because I've done way too many edits this week to go back and fix 'em all. I kinda tend to be sloppy with the linking in the descriptions of image files. I figure no one reads those things anyways. Well, now I know. I've given the Quality Standard Guidelines a solid look over, so I should be able to avoid making any more screw-ups from now on :P Hylian King 17:40, 5 September 2010 (EDT)
Alternatively, you can just use the game shortcuts. Instead of typing out the [[The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past|A Link to the Past]] ordeal, it'd be much easier to add it using the Game Formatting Templates. So that way, you'd just type {{subst:ALTTP}}, which results in this:
A Link to the Past
Nice, eh? We encourage users to use the Game shorcuts so that it will make it easier and faster to edit the wiki. For a list of all Game Formatting Templates, you can go here: Formatting Templates. Dany36 17:03, 5 September 2010 (EDT)
Thanks for the tip! I knew there was a better way of doing it... Hylian King 17:40, 5 September 2010 (EDT)

Linking to other pages

Hullo, Hylian King! First of all, I want to congratulate you once again for the excellent job you've been doing in improving pages across the wiki...so hurray for you! Just a little tip, though: I've noticed (like for example in this edit) that you link to other pages several times in one paragraph. Normally, we only link to other pages once per article so that we won't overlink and such. The first thing that stood out in that edit is that you linked to uh...Link's page more than once. So just telling ya that you don't have to link to an article several times throughout the page: just once will suffice. BUT OTHER THAN THAT you've been doing an awesome job. B) Keep up the great work! Dany36 23:12, 14 September 2010 (EDT)

File Extensions

Hey, dude, when uploading files, make sure that you upload them with a lowercase file extension. It's part of our policy to have lowercase extensions rather than capitalized ones. (IE: File.jpg instead of File.JPG) Other than that, keep up your good work!User:Justin ZW/sig 13:49, 19 September 2010 (EDT)

Yeah, sorry about that. Those were some of my first file uploads, and I wasn't really paying attention when I did them. It shouldn't happen anymore... Hylian King 15:55, 19 September 2010 (EDT)
If it happens again don't feel too bad, even some of us let it slip through when we upload sometimes. An admin should move it before too long and if they don't seem to notice it all you have to do is ask and they will, there's a section for it on the Image Requests page.Emma (Talk) 20:11, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Epic page

How can i make my page like yours? its really cool :) DonGerosMask 7:22, 30 September 2010 (GMT)

First off, do not use {{:User:DonGerosMask}} as your signature. I bet you wouldn't like it if I had my entire userpage as my signature. Use [[User:DonGerosMask|DonGerosMask]] for now, and stylize it or add to it as you like (Be sure to read the Signature Rules).
If you want to make a page like his, simply look at the source code and copy parts that you like. You can find a list of user boxes here. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  07:56, 30 September 2010 (EDT)

Translations [Sandbox]

Quick question: Is the capitalization of katakana necessary? I also find the way Japanese is displayed (eg. ツインローバ "TSUINRŌBA") to be rather unappealing. Sorry for being so blunt ^_^ — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  11:24, 3 October 2010 (EDT)

Meh, it's true. It wasn't my idea. I was just following the pattern used in other translations pages, for the sake of uniformity. For the record, the capitalized characters represent a proper noun that doesn't have an English translation. For example,
アンビ女王 would be "ANBI Joō", "Anbi" being a proper noun and "Joō" being a common noun meaning "queen".
If you have any better ideas as to how the translations pages should look, by all means, tell me! They all kinda need a do-over... Hylian King 11:41, 3 October 2010 (EDT)

HUZZAH!

Hello, Hylian King! Let me be the first one to congratulate you for your promotion to Autopatrol! This just means that you have been doing a great job with your edits (great grammar, knows how to use wikicode properly, etc) and, since we haven't had to correct your edits that often, then the staff trusts you enough to not have an admin or a patroller check all of your edits. Congrats! We hope you stick around and continue with your fantastic contributions. And of course, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask any of the active staff members. Rock on! :] Dany36 11:55, 4 October 2010 (EDT)

Second!! XD Keep it up! Embyr 75  --Talk-- 11:56, 4 October 2010 (EDT)
Awesome job! Now your rank is higher than approximately 90% of active users! It doesn't mean much, but hey, atleast the staff recognizes that you're more reliable than them. CONFIDENCE BOOST! — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  12:10, 4 October 2010 (EDT)
Thank you all. It's nice when your work gets noticed! It's an honor for me to be part of the Autopatrol (however small an accomplishment it may be! :P). I'll be doubly careful with my edits from now on, because even though most of my edits are passable, I can be quite the space cadet sometimes... Thanks again! Hylian King 16:42, 4 October 2010 (EDT)

OoA-related articles

Yo, Hylian King! I just wanted to congratulate you on all the excellent work you've done on all OoA-related articles...seriously, it's awesome! O_O Keep up the great editing skillzzzz! 8D Dany36 13:06, 7 November 2010 (EST)

Thanks! You always know what to say to keep us little ones motivated, don't you? :P — Hylian King [*] 06:48, 8 November 2010 (EST)
Speaking of your OOA-related work, I think it's time to let your sandbox project out. I can say with confidence that it is THE best translation page we have yet. It's no fair to keep it way from the public eye any longer. Just remember to add the {{Translations}} template and edit it to includes the new OOA translation page. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  02:29, 26 November 2010 (EST)
Done. It's off to Holodrum! If you're still reading this, I'd once again like to thank you for all your help. Without you, this page would be another bunch of ugly blocks of text.
By the way, Minion, I've noticed the new {{FileInfo}} template you've made. I must say, it looks very professional. It's definitely something I'd like to see on all the File pages (and I think I speak for a lot of people on this one). It seems to me like it would be a good task for TheStoneWatcher, don't you think? — Hylian King [*] 08:00, 27 November 2010 (EST)
If I'm still reading this? Come on, I don't have THAT short of an attention span >_> Anyway, I really didn't do anything. It was you who put all the time and effort writing up each entry, so full credit goes to you. But damn, that page looks amazing.
Yeah, my baby looks nice but apparently it has a flaw. Emma thinks it's not very newb-friendly, so newbs probably won't bother using it. I honestly think it's straight forward, and after using it 3 times, I'm used to it. Plus the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I think his argument is flawed. Newbs don't know how to use {{FileGame}}, so should we stop using that too? Anyway, I think it's better if it was added in manually. That way we can start giving files proper summaries.
By the way, do you have another way I can contact you? Using talk pages slows conversation greatly. If my offer feels uncomfortable, feel free to reject it. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  10:22, 27 November 2010 (EST)
I see... Well, there's another Wiki controversy for you...
And you're right, but I can't think of anything other than email. If one day I finally get around to getting Skype, I'll drop you a line. Until then, I guess we have to keep conversation to a bare minimum :P — Hylian King [*] 10:47, 27 November 2010 (EST)

Item template section

Howdy, HK! I have a question. I am interested on creating navigation templates in regards of the items that appear in the games (sort of like the dungeon navigation templates), but I would like to make them customized (for example, the TP item template could look like that circular Menu screen, and you could go to an item article by just clicking the item's icon in that menu). I was thinking you could help me a little there. Thanks in advance! --K2L (Interrogatory) 17:14, 21 December 2010 (EST)

Sounds like a great idea! It seems like it would be a great contribution to the TP items pages, and I'd love to help. However, template work/coding isn't really my thing (I'd like to learn, but I just have no idea how it works). You should definitely talk to Minion about this, though. He'd be perfect for the job. Still, if there's ever anything I can do to help out, you can count on me.
Also, I know it's been a while, but I've been meaning to talk to you about the proposal that you wrote on Jeangabin's talk page for translating all the french names (great work with the spanish ones, by the way!). I can't really promise you anything, busy as I am with the Oracle of Ages Translations article (and the OoS one to follow), but I'd love to take the task on myself. Jean isn't the only one around here who's fluent in French. ;) — Hylian King [*] 07:30, 22 December 2010 (EST)
Didn't know you knew French as well =P. And thanks for the suggestions. I'll see if Minion is online now (though I'm not sure if he'll have time for this task, not to mention that I already talked to him in two consecutive sections of his talk page, I don't want him to think that I'm "obsessed" with him or anything). --K2L (Interrogatory) 14:55, 22 December 2010 (EST)
You didn't read the line on my user page that says I'm always waiting for questions, did you? You can fill up my entire talk page and I still won't consider you "obsessed". As long as you're more mature than an 8 year old, I won't judge you. Anyway, this project sounds like fun. Do you want quest items (eg. the Wooden Statue) in the circle? Because I'm not sure how I'll make them all fit. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  23:45, 22 December 2010 (EST)
You mean the Event Items, correct? Well, the TP circle allows for a practically unlimited number of collected items, as their placements are accomodated each time something new is found. If you have too much trouble adding all of them in one circle, then you could trace two concentric circles so that you can have extra space (and it might be indeed necessary, due to the existence of the many things you can scoop in the Bottles, like potions, fairies, larvae, etc.) =P. As for the other menu screens (OOT's, MM's, TWW's), you could make enlarged versions of them.
In regards of you waiting for questions, it's admirable that you wish to help other users. The reason why I fear making others (not just you, also users like Cip and Mandi) feeling annoyed by getting messages just from me because I hate to sometimes look way too inexperienced when it comes to making advanced edits and therefore having to bother other users because I'm not very fluent on these things. It makes others think "geez, can't this dude try to learn on his own?", even though orientation from expert editors is suggested when it comes to, say, creating something like the Great Sea navigation template, which requires perfect placement of the parameters and the image-links. --K2L (Interrogatory) 01:00, 23 December 2010 (EST)

Sorry for taking over your talk page, HK. I hope you don't mind. Anyway, you can view the template here. Unfortunately, I didn't get to read your comment, so it looks like I'll have to redo it. I'll work on it later, I guess :P
Actually, I understand how you feel. Especially when it comes to talking to someone of greater experience or authority. I guess we're both too proud to ask for help. XD Trust me, you're not a nuisance at all. If you don't understand something, tell me. I'll only help you learn things faster. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  02:02, 23 December 2010 (EST)

Hahaha, I'm glad I was of some use to you both... The template looks AMAZING, by the way. Damn, what would this wiki do without guys like you two?
This actually inspired me to learn how to work imagemaps, but I think I'll stick to my simple, rectangular 2D maps for now :) — Hylian King [*] 09:56, 23 December 2010 (EST)
Everything becomes simpler when you have the right tools. I use this site to make image maps quickly and accurately. I'm sure there are hundreds like it. — Abdul [T] [C] [S]  09:44, 24 December 2010 (EST)
