Chance in all his towel-headed glory!

He is known throughout the Zelda Community as »-LasT-ChaNcE-«, though his friends know him simply as Chance (which just happens to be his name). Chance has been part of the Zelda community for five and a half years, dating back to January 28th, 2005 when he first joined the LegendOfZelda.com Forums. He has many reputations amongst the Zelda Community, each one as unique as the people who encounter him. To those who've crossed his path with malicious intent, he's a hard-nosed, down-to-business kinda guy who takes crap from nobody. To the members of his site he's a leader who sticks to the rules but has a hell of a lot of fun in the process. And to his friends and anyone who takes the time to get to know him, he's a laid back kinda guy who tries to find the humor in everything he encounters. He is notorious for his unending sarcasm as well as for his genuinely caring demeanor. LoZ.com is his home, and he protects and defends it with everything he has, because that is how much it truly means to him. The forum he became a part of took him in and through LoZ.com he's met some of his best friends and has become the leader of a proud, ever-growing community.

History

»-LasT-ChaNcE-« started his career at LegendOfZelda.com as a member, joining the site in January of 2005 under the username cWo. He quickly became one of the regular members of the site, very actively posting and contributing what he could to the site. What really captured everyone's attention was an idea he came up with to hold a game character battle tournament, similar to the one that GameFAQS holds every summer. The tournament was a hit and Chance had very successfully made his mark on LoZ.com.

A mere two months after his registration, the owner of site, Link of Hyrule (along with the support of many key members including former administrator Cartoons and other staff members) offered Chance a position as Forum Moderator. He very humbly accepted the position. Although he was not immediately accepted among all of his peers, he soon became one of the gang. He brought a lot to the table that LoZ.com had not seen in many years, including a vast knowledge of web coding, talent in graphic design, and many new and innovative ideas that would help the community both in terms of efficiency and fun activities. Chance's core belief was always and still is today that any member can contribute to the community if given the opportunity. Chance put this idea into action, and a month after he was hired another active and dedicated member, Gohma, was hired as a moderator as well under Chance's advisement.

In July of 2005, Link of Hyrule asked Chance (who at this point had changed his username from cWo to »-LasT-ChaNcE-«) to step up and become an administrator to LoZ.com's forum, as well as lend a hand with the management of the main site of LoZ. Once again Chance had been given an opportunity to make a difference, and he wasted no time in attempting to do so. While learning many basics of coding a phpBB forum from the forum's then main coder, Cartoons, he also began to implement many changes to the community with the approval of Link of Hyrule. For many years the LoZ.com community had a rather large population of "elitist" members who considered themselves above the normal members simply due to the fact that they had been a part of LoZ.com for a long period of time. Chance sought to dissolve this ideal, and began making an extra effort to give opportunities to younger members of the site who had shown a great dedication and held a lot of respect among the community. The older (as in the length of site membership) population of LoZ started to merge with the younger population and the elitist ideal began to fade away.

One of Chance's co-administrators, KingKrazyLink (known henceforth as KKL), did not share many Chance's views and disliked the changes he was strongly pushing for. In August of 2005, KKL told Chance and many other prominent members of the LoZ community that he and Link of Hyrule were planning to fire Chance shortly after a successful hacking of the site's forums had destroyed everything. Cartoons left the site, and Chance was left to rebuild the forums which took a total of three days. Though the forums were not the same, they were back and as good as one could hope for. Although this was no fault of anyone on staff, KKL had convinced several people that Chance might have been the cause of it, and because of this he and Link of Hyrule were going to remove him from all aspects of LoZ.com. Believing what he had been told, Chance took what he had worked so hard to build and left LoZ.com, putting in it's place a set of temporary forums and a long letter explaining his innocence and reason for leaving.

He, together with prominent LoZ.com member Marius (formerly Darth X and MegaMan X) recreated the defunct Xero Gaming, which first emerged after LoZ.com's first site shut down. This second XG became the new home to many of LoZ.com's older members, as well as several who had supported Chance and his decision to leave. Many others in the community were torn between XG and LoZ, while other still stood behind KKL and his denouncement of Chance and XG as a whole. Soon after this ordeal occurred, it came to be known that Link of Hyrule had been on vacation and had never even thought about firing Chance. The entire situation was a misunderstanding, and Chance profusely apologized to everyone involved, still unsure as to why KKL would have instigated something that nearly destroyed the LoZ.com community.

Meanwhile, KKL and others rebuilt LoZ.com's forums once again. This time around though, they were messy and very unorganized coding-wise. KKL had very little knowledge of coding a phpBB forum, and as such there were several errors that frequently disrupted the site. After two months of constant errors and with nobody to fix them, Link of Hyrule contacted Chance and their relationship was patched up. Chance came back to LoZ.com as an administrator and within a day had corrected all the problems that KKL had created due to his lack of coding knowledge.

In January of 06, after KKL resigned his post at LoZ.com never to return to it as anything other than a normal member and Sage, Link of Hyrule and Chance began planning a massive overhaul of the entire site. For two months they worked tirelessly, alongside many of the staff members, to rebuild and reorganize what was a very cluttered and scattered website. In March of 2006 LoZ.com relaunched with a new layout and entirely new forums. This fresh start to LoZ.com was welcomed by everyone in the community, and was the foundation for what LoZ.com is today.

In May of 2006, LoZ.com changed servers, leaving it's long-time host for a new setup that would allow for more control and customization. At this point, Chance and Link of Hyrule took equal shares in the site's financial support, and thus Chance became Co-Owner of LegendOfZelda.com alongside Link of Hyrule.

Although the site's relaunch had been a success, the partners had bigger things in mind still. Over the course of the next 7 months, they discussed, planned, and finally decided on a new direction to take the site in. Up to that point, LoZ.com had always been a purely hard-coded website. Their plan was to uproot the site once again and switch over to a new CSS-based format and create it in such a way that no other site had ever done.

In October of 2006, LoZ.com once again relaunched with a new layout that united the entire website under one, uniform template. LoZ.com was the first major site in the Zelda Community to do this, a fact which Chance and Link of Hyrule were very proud of (Zelda Legacy and Zelda Universe now too have similar, single-template websites). Also unique to the site was an idea that Chance himself had come up with: a rotating main banner that changed with every page visit or refresh.

Since then Chance has done his absolute best to lead LoZ.com into a bigger, brighter future. Although Link of Hyrule is no longer an active member of the community or staff, Chance, along with LoZ's webmaster Xizor, runs the day-to-day happenings of the site along with the site's dedicated staff.
