Retitle

I think this article should be retitled to something more generic like Secret Grottoes or Secret Caves, as the term "Dig Cavern" only applies to Twilight Princess, given that these caves are found by digging as Wolf Link in that game. The ones from the other games aren't found by digging. --Drillzer (talk) 20:49, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The name of the article should be the most recent name available (in this case their name in TPHD). Even if the title only applies to TP, the rest of the article already includes the proper name for each game, and searching for them redirects to the proper section. - Chuck * (Talk) 22:11, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But the most recent name doesn't work as an all-encompassing article title in this case. This isn't a case of Nintendo renaming a recurring element in the series, it's a case of them giving a game-specific name to one of the incarnations of said element. An article's title should refer to the subject it's about, not one of the particular examples covered by it, that's one of the fundamental rules of encyclopedia articles. If they released another MM remake and gave these caves a name like "Underground Termina Cave", would you advocate renaming the article to that, despite most examples being caves found in Hyrule? --Drillzer (talk) 22:46, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
While it's unfortunate that Nintendo opted for this name, how our policy works is that the most recent name must be used, not the most common. As Dig Caverns and Secret Caves are fundamentally identical, they must follow the policy and use the most recent name, which is Dig Cavern.
As we intentionally use redirects for the other titles, clarify what names are used and where in the lead paragraph, and use the specific names in the corresponding sections, it's not something that we need to change. It's only the page name that's affected. TriforceTony (talk) 01:01, 1 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The problem is that the current title is a misnomer, as the article is about all secret caves of this kind, not just the TP ones. If a policy demands that we use a misnomer for this article's title, then I'd say said policy is flawed and needs to be updated. The policy shouldn't assume that the most recent name makes an appropriate title by default. --Drillzer (talk) 01:22, 1 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The name of the article isn't being applied to anything other than the instances in TP. The other names from other games are applied in their respective contexts, so it isn't a misnomer. The name of the article has to come from somewhere, and in line with our policies the most recent name is used. The case can easily be made that the name of the article will be a misnomer for the Twilight Princess section if any other name is used. As they are fundamentally the same thing, one name must be used, and that is drawn from the latest game in the sequence (Twilight Princess HD in this case).
