The Seer, J. L. Picall is a character in The Wind Waker.[1]

Biography

J. L. Picall is one of two unseen characters who refer to themselves as "The Seer", a title which implies prophetic abilities. Their relationship with the other Seer, S.W. Potchit, is unknown. The only trace of Picall's existence is a message inscribed at the top of the lighthouse on Windfall Island, meant for the wielder of the "Flaming Arrow":

     Wielder of the Flaming Arrow:
When you appear, the lighthouse signal
shall return to light the seas at night.
      (The Seer, J. L. Picall)

This message hints that Link should reignite the lighthouse beacon by shooting a Fire Arrow into its lamp, which can only be accomplished by riding the island's ferris wheel up to the highest elevation during the nighttime. Once the beacon is lit, a hidden Treasure Chest containing a Piece of Heart will appear on a small island off the southwest shore of Windfall Island. Link can then speak to Kreeb on the lighthouse catwalk, who celebrates its reactivation by giving him another Piece of Heart.[2]

Nomenclature

The name J. L. Picall may be a reference to Jean-Luc Picard, a character in the Star Trek franchise. Picall's surname is "Picard" in the French localization.[3]
