"A Fragmented Monument" is a Shrine Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]
Overview
Link can obtain this Shrine Quest by speaking to Garini in the Palmorae Ruins after obtaining the Camera Rune.[note 1] Garini will be scared by Link at first,[3] but he apologizes and asks him if he needs something.[4] If Link asks what he is doing, Garini will explain that he was examining the monument.[5]
Garini notes that the Palmorae Ruins have a spiritual aura to them.[6] Recently, he noticed that the stone monument has writing engraved on it,[7] so now he is trying to decipher what is written.[8] If Link offers to help, Garini will note that he is also the curious type.[9] He explains that the stone monument was once whole, but an earthquake lead to it becoming shattered.[10] He asks Link to find the missing Monument Shards that have been scattered and return with a Picture of them.[11] To aid with Link's search, Garini informs him that the text on the Monument Shards glows at night, making them easier to see.[12] Additionally, Garini hints that one Shard is close by.[13]
The first Monument Shard is located in the Palmorae Ruins, near some Trees east of the monument. The second Monument Shard is located among some rocks and flotsam to the west of the Ruins.[14] The third and final Monument Shard sits beneath a Palm Tree at the tip of Soka Point.[15]
When Link returns to Garini, he will ask if he found the Monument Shards.[16] If Link confirms that he has, he will show the Pictures to him.[17] Now that he has seen all of the Shards, Garini believes he will be able to decipher the entire monument.[18] When he successfully figures it out, Garini will share the text with Link.[19] It states, "When the two find their place and kneel in reverence, the shrine will reveal itself."[20] He has no idea what that means, though.[21]
When Link kneels down on one of the nearby Pedestals, Garini will be shocked.[22] He will then kneel on the other Pedestal. Both Pedestals will activate, which causes Kah Yah Shrine to rise from the sand.[23] With this, the Shrine Quest will be completed.
