ALttP introduced trees that react to being run into. Dashing into Trees with the Pegasus Boots in the Light World causes Apples to fall that Link can eat to replenish health. Dashing into a Light World Tree may instead release several Bees that will attack Link for disturbing their home. The Dark World's Trees from - are capable of speaking to Link or, on occasion, spitting Bombs at him.

Some Trees are capable of changing with the Seasons in OoS. Some Trees will decay and shrink in Winter, allowing Link to move beyond them and access new areas. The Rod of Seasons, which forces the Seasons to cycle depending on the available Power of Seasons, can only be activated upon Tree stumps. The Maku Tree is a character who guides Link through Holodrum to retrieve the Essences of Nature in order to restore his power. Other Trees, known as Mystical Trees, bear Mystical Seeds and serve as destinations for Warping with the Gale Seeds. Link can also plant Gasha Seeds to grow Gasha Trees.

In TWW, small tree saplings are found scattered across many islands on the Great Sea and in several dungeons, where they may either be used for effect or act as barriers; these thin, young trees can easily be felled with a single swipe from a Sword. Each year, the Great Deku Tree would send off some of the Koroks to plant trees all throughout the islands. This was done in the hope that, as the forests spread and the trees grew, they would consolidate the remaining land above the Great Sea, and allow some of the land lost during the Great Flood to be reclaimed from the depths. The eight locations the Koroks chose to plant the Great Deku Tree's seeds are Shark Island, Eastern Fairy Island, Star Island, Needle Rock Isle, Cliff Plateau Isles, Private Oasis, Greatfish Isle, and Mother and Child Isles.

Depending on a Tree's thickness, it may be cut down into a log with a sharp BotW, by being caught in the blast radius of a Remote Bomb or Bomb Barrel, or by being struck by Lightning. Trees that can be cut down may drop Acorns, Korok Leaves, or Tree Branches in the process. Fruit-bearing Apple and palm Trees also tend to drop Apples and Palm Fruit, respectively. The logs from these Trees can be rolled, used as a makeshift Raft or bridge to cross gaps, suspended with Stasis, or destroyed for Wood. Additionally, thinner Trees can be climbed and used for surveying the landscape with the Sheikah Slate's Scope.<ref>{{Cite|Treetops<br>The things you can do atop small trees are limited, but they have their uses. Trees are recurring Objects in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3][4][name references needed] In most games, Trees are used as blockades to limit Link from proceeding beyond them. In games such as Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, various items like Hearts and Rupees can be found in Trees and knocked down by Rolling into a Tree's trunk.[5] Trees go unnamed in The Minish Cap.

Location and Uses

The Legend of Zelda

The entrance to Level 1 is a gnarled Tree.

The Adventure of Link

A Link to the Past

A Link to the Past introduced Trees that react to being run into. Sprinting into Trees with the Pegasus Shoes in the Light World causes Apples to fall that Link can eat to replenish health. Dashing into a Light World Tree may instead release several Bees that will attack Link for disturbing their home. The Dark World's Talking Timbers are Trees capable of speaking to Link or, on occasion, spitting Bombs at him.

Link can see an apparition of the Flute Boy playing the Whistle on a stump for the woodland Animals of the Haunted Grove. The Lumberjacks, A. Bumpkin and B. Bumpkin, can be found cutting a large Tree saying that they can feel something odd about it. Later on, if Link charges into it with the Pegasus Shoes, a stump with a hole will appear.

Link's Awakening

Some Trees are infested with Bees in Link's Awakening. Some, called Treasure Trees, will drop Bombs, Fairies, or even Secret Seashells after being hit with the Pegasus Boots.

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, there are many stumps in the Lost Woods where Skull Kids play flutes. Trees can also be found in Hyrule Field and can be rolled into causing them to shake and drop Arrows, Deku Nuts, Rupees, Magic Jars, and occasionally Gold Skulltulas.

Majora's Mask

The Skull Kid first encountered Tatl and Tael in the hollowed remains of a Tree's trunk, where all three were attempting to escape the Rain. The Skull Kid later killed the Deku Butler's Son by cursing his body to resemble sad-looking Tree.

Oracle of Seasons

Some Trees are capable of changing with the Seasons in Oracle of Seasons. Link can also plant Gasha Seeds to grow Gasha Tree.

At the beginning of Link's journey in Holodrum, Din can be seen dancing atop a Tree stump.

Oracle of Ages

Some Trees grow and die over the course of Time, consequently affect the landscape between the Past and Present in Oracle of Ages. The Maku Tree is a character who guides Link through Labrynna to retrieve the Essences of Nature in order to restore her power. Other Trees, known as Mystical Trees, bear Mystical Seeds and serve as destinations for Warping with the Gale Seeds. Link can also plant Gasha Seeds to grow Gasha Tree.

At the beginning of Link's journey in Labrynna, Nayru can be seen singing atop a Tree stump.

Four Swords

The Wind Waker

Tree saplings from The Wind Waker

In The Wind Waker, small Tree saplings are found scattered across many Islands on the Great Sea and in several Dungeons, where they may either be used for effect or act as barriers; these thin, young Trees can easily be felled with a single swipe from a Sword. Additionally, each year, the Great Deku Tree sends off some of the Koroks to plant Forest Trees all throughout the Islands. This is done in the hope that, as the forests spread and the Trees grew, they will consolidate the remaining land above the Great Sea, and allow some of the land lost during the Great Flood to be reclaimed from the depths. The eight locations the Koroks chose to plant the Great Deku Tree's seeds are Shark Island, Eastern Fairy Island, Star Island, Needle Rock Isle, Cliff Plateau Isles, Private Oasis, Greatfish Isle, and Mother and Child Isles.

Four Swords Adventures

Some Trees in Four Swords Adventures require the teamwork of all four Links to move or even lift to unblock paths.

The Minish Cap

Tree Stumps act as Minish Portals, which allow Link to shrink to the size of a Minish or return to the size of a Human with the help of the Minish mage, Ezlo. Dashing into certain Trees occasionally knocks loose Rupees, Fairies, or Kinstone Pieces.

Twilight Princess

Some Trees bear Beehives in Twilight Princess, which are a source of Bee Larva if they are destroyed. As the Seasons change each time Link enters Hena's Fishing Hole, the Trees inside change to reflect that given Season.

A Link Between Worlds

Trees in A Link Between Worlds exhibit similar behavior to their A Link to the Past counterparts, but with an added chance of a Green Apple appearing in place of a standard red Apple. One of these Trees, the StreetPass Tree situated just west of Link's House, has its Apples visibly displayed and is affected by StreetPass functionality.

Tri Force Heroes

Breath of the Wild

Various types of Trees appear across Hyrule. Depending on a Tree's thickness, it may be cut down into a log with a sharp Weapon, by being caught in the blast radius of a Remote Bomb or Bomb Barrel, or by being struck by Lightning. Thin to medium-sized Trees can be felled in these manners; thicker ones cannot. Trees that can be cut down may drop Acorns, Korok Leaves, or Tree Branches in the process. Fruit-bearing Apple and palm Trees also tend to bear Apples and Palm Fruits, respectively; these can be picked by climbing on the Tree or knocked down with Arrows or by felling the Tree. The logs from these Trees can be rolled, used as a makeshift Raft or bridge to cross gaps, suspended with Stasis, or destroyed for Wood. Additionally, Trees can be climbed and used for surveying the landscape with the Sheikah Slate's Scope.[6] Monsters are also capable of felling Trees, though they do not actively attempt to cut any. During Malice Naydra's rampage on Mount Lanayru, it may fly through wooded areas on the mountain, knocking down any Trees in its path.

Trees that are too thick to be cut down often bear Acorns or Chickaloo Tree Nuts as well as Bird nests, which contain Bird Eggs, in their canopies. Some of these Trees also bear Rocks which reveal Koroks when lifted. Some large Trees, particularly those near the Great Hyrule Forest, feature cavities which resemble faces. Treasure Chests and other Items and Objects can occasionally be found inside these cavities.

Tears of the Kingdom

Trees can contain and drop various Items, including Apples and Chickaloo Tree Nuts. The Trees with golden-colored leaves on the Sky Islands may also bear Golden Apples.

Evermeans are Monsters that disguise themselves as Trees.
