This page is about the location in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. For the Shrine Quest, see "The Spring of Wisdom".

Spring of Wisdom is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

The Spring of Wisdom is an Ancient Hylian Ruin located at the peak of Mount Lanayru.[4] A pathway up Mount Lanayru leads travelers directly to the Spring, which is surrounded by jagged Ice formations. It is a shallow pool of Water that flows into two small Waterfalls at either side of its entrance. There is a Goddess Statue at its center known as the Spring of Wisdom Statue, where Link can exchange four Spirit Orbs for either Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels.[5] Due to being within a Freezing Climate, Link will take damage at the Spring of Wisdom unless he has two levels of Cold Resistance. Since ancient times, the Dragon, Naydra, has served the Spring.[6][7]

Prior to the second Great Calamity, the Spring of Wisdom was the final spring that Zelda visited, since those under the age of 17 are not wise enough to climb Mount Lanayru.[8][9] On the day of her 17th birthday, Zelda visited the Spring of Wisdom.[9][10] However, she failed to awaken her sealing power, and she and Link can be seen returning from this journey during the "Return of Calamity Ganon" Recovered Memory.[9][11]

In Hateno Village, Link can ask Medda about Mount Lanayru, who believes that the Royal Family of Hyrule could have a hidden treasure at the Spring of Wisdom.[12] After listening to him, "The Spring of Wisdom" Shrine Quest will begin. When Link first arrives at the Spring of Wisdom, he will find Malice Naydra, a form of Naydra after it has been corrupted by Malice. Hylia speaks to him through the Spring of Wisdom Statue, revealing that it has been afflicted by an attack from Calamity Ganon.[13] She tasks Link with destroying the Glowing Eyeballs and freeing Naydra.[14] After Link shoots one of the Glowing Eyeballs on Malice Naydra, it will fly away from the Spring of Wisdom.

Once Naydra has been purified, Link will automatically return to the Spring of Wisdom. As a final task, Hylia instructs Link to shoot Naydra with an Arrow.[15] When he does so, Naydra will fly off, but not before dropping one of its Scales to the ground.[16][17] Link is then told to offer Naydra's Scale to the Spring of Wisdom.[18] Doing this will open the door to Jitan Sa'mi Shrine behind the Statue.[19][20]

After being freed, Naydra will appear above the Spring of Wisdom at 5:00 AM and 5:00 PM everyday. However, it will not do so if Link is at the Spring during these times.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

As part of the "Inner Knowing" Quest, the Warriors are instructed to make an offering to the Spring of Wisdom.[3] This offering includes 10 Stamella Shrooms, 10 Restless Crickets, 10 Staminoka Basses, 10 Energetic Rhino Beetles, and five Courser Bee Honeys. Once the offering has been made, a mysterious power will improve the Warriors' ability to execute Special Attacks.[21]
