Link (Pig)

Template:Character Link is the name of a pig owned by Abe and Rose on Outset Island in The Wind Waker.

History

Abe and Rose named the pig after its captor while he was away. Link the pig grew very large by the next time the young hero saw him.

Link can use the rather obese pig to dig in the dark patches of dirt in order to unearth a Piece of Heart. To do so, Link needs to use one piece of the All Purpose Bait and also use the Power Bracelet to lift the pig. Abe will ask Link to take the pig out for a walk when Link sees him fully grown. If Link slices at the pig with his sword, it will become angry, just like other pigs, but due to its massive size it will deal three hearts of damage rather than one.

Though the exact algorithm for the pig's color is not 100% certain, it is most likely as follows.

• If the black pig is brought back, that's the color the giant pig will be regardless of any other pigs brought back; the black pig has precedence over the others.
• If the solid pink pig is brought back, it will become the giant pig as long as Link doesn't bring back the black pig, regardless of whether or not he bring back the spotted pig; the solid pink pig has precedence over the spotted pig, but not the black pig.
• The spotted pig will only become the giant pig if it's the only pig brought back. Any other pig brought back will take precedence over the spotted pig.
• If no pig is brought, the default color for the pig will be solid black. Abe takes special interest in the black pig after Rose tells him they want a pet; it is therefore implied that Abe catches this pig if Link doesn't get one.

Whether this is the case or not, it is most certainly not whichever pig Link first brings to the family. Therefore, this is the working hypothesis.

Trivia

• Once Link the pig attacks the young hero, he is impossible to placate unless Link gets away or dies, therefore rendering him invincible.
• Zill and Joel admit to having eaten the other pigs if Link had given them more than one earlier in the game. This is why there can only be one giant pig named Link.
• No matter which color Link is, the Nintendo Gallery will depict him as pink.
