Biography

Link's Awakening

In Link's Awakening, there are two fishermen. One of them can be found in Mabe Village and will allow Link to go Fishing for a nominal fee. The second can be found underneath a bridge in Martha's Bay and is responsible for a part of the trading sequence.[1]

The second fisherman has lost his fishing hook.[2] Link can trade him the Fishing Hook Grandma Ulrira has found while sweeping the river bank for his next catch,[3][4] which happens to be the necklace.[5][6][7] This second fisherman can be revisited for a photo in the DX version of Link's Awakening.

Ocarina of Time

The Fisherman in Ocarina of Time owns a Fishing Pond in Lake Hylia. He is infamous for having a never-ending itch in his armpit; as such, he can always be seen scratching whether Link is a child or an adult. The Fisherman allows anyone to lure fish for an unlimited time at a cost of 20 Rupees.[8] He considers himself an expert at catching Fish, going as far as referring to himself as an old pro,[9] but he refuses to reveal any Fishing secrets to Link since he considers them to be company secrets. He also has a tendency to continuously end his sentences with "I'm serious!"[10][11][12]

When Link goes back to the fishing pond as an adult, the fisherman will now be wearing a hat to try and cover his bald spot.[13] Moreover, he mentions that he is almost out of business since Link, his only customer, was gone for seven years.[14] If Link breaks the rules and casts his fishing rod at the fisherman, he can grab his hat to confirm the fact that he has started to go bald.[15] Also, it is revealed by casting the rod at his desk at a certain angle, that the fisherman was never programmed with legs.

His parallel character in Majora's Mask is the owner of the Trading Post (young form), and the Man from Curiosity Shop (older form).

The Fisherman makes a small cameo in Hena's Fishing Hole in Twilight Princess. There is a picture of him holding a Hyrule Loach.[16] Hena also believes to be his descendant, sharing both his passion for fishing and his awkward itch.[17][18]

Majora's Mask

Another fisherman appears in Majora's Mask who is found in the Fisherman's Hut at Great Bay Coast. He has been fishing for 30 years and claims to be the best fisherman there is, even better than the Zoras.[19] He continues to say that due to warm and murky waters of late, he has not been able to catch many fish.[20] He also mentions that he used a tool called a hookshot to catch fish off the coast, but was suddenly attacked by female pirates and took away the hookshot claiming it was a legendary treasure.[21]

If Link inspects the Seahorse in his house, the fisherman will say that it's a rare specimen, and was planning to sell it at the carnival. If Link brings him a Pictograph of a Gerudo Pirate from the Pirates' Fortress he would be willing to part with it.[22][23] After Link gives it to him, the fisherman in return hands over the seahorse inside a bottle, which Link must take to the waters near Pinnacle Rock.[24]

After completing the Great Bay Temple and defeating Gyorg, the Fisherman will relocate to a small island near the Pirate's Fortress.[25] Link can't reach the island unless he rides on a nearby motorboat and then Hookshot over to the island. He will let Link play the Fisherman's Jumping Game in which he has to jump across several islands, trying to land on the island with a lit torch.[26] If the young hero obtains at least 20 points, he will receive a Piece of Heart as a prize from the Fisherman. After Link wins, the fisherman will regret having made the game so easy, saying he was thinking of buying a big ship but now it seems he will go bankrupt.[27]

His Ocarina of Time counterpart runs the Treasure Chest Game.

Majora's Mask 3D

Two fishing holes are set to appear in Majora's Mask 3D, one in the swamp and the other one not known yet. Like in Ocarina of Time, Link pays the fisherman to fish, except the price is 50 Rupees to fish. Majora's Mask 3D also adds a new item called the Fishing Hole Pass, which allows you to fish for free.
