Faron Province

Faron Province is part of the province system in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.

Twilight Princess

In Twilight Princess, Faron Province is located north of the Ordona Province, southwest of the Eldin Province, and is situated at the southern part of the map. Named after the Light Spirit Faron, the province includes the Faron Woods, the Forest Temple, part of Hyrule Field, and the Sacred Grove, which also houses the Temple of Time. This is the second province Link visits during his journey as it is directly connected to the Ordona Province.

History

Link first enters the Faron Province while it is covered in Twilight, and after recovering light to the area, he sets off to the Forest Temple to retrieve the first Fused Shadow. Later on in the game, having been permanently transformed into a wolf due to Zant's Shadow Crystal, the young hero must return to the Faron Woods to enter the Sacred Grove and retrieve the Master Sword in order to return to his human form. Eventually, Link will have to once again visit the Sacred Grove and enter the Temple of Time and receive the Mirror Shard upon the defeat of Armogohma.

During the ending credits, Link is seen riding away from the province's woods while riding Epona.

Template:Sectstub In Skyward Sword, the Faron Province is protected by a great Water Dragon of the same name who was appointed to oversee the region by the goddess Hylia.

History

Link first visits the Faron Province when he lands on The Surface to look for Zelda. He lands in the Sealed Grounds, and meets the elderly Impa. She directs him to continue on his quest in Faron Woods, the defining feature of Faron Province in the game. Upon reaching the area, he is tasked by the Kikwi elder Bucha to find the other members of the tribe. After doing so, he is given the Slingshot, granting him access to the Deep Woods and Skyview Temple. Upon completing Skyview Temple and fighting the dungeon boss, Ghirahim, Link moves on to the next province in his journey.
Link returns to the province later for his first Silent Realm trial in Faron Woods. When he completes the challenge, he is given the Water Dragon's Scale, allowing him access to the Great Tree. The elder Kikwi, Yerbal, is found at the top of the Great Tree and sends Link to the other main part of Faron Province, Lake Floria, to meet with the province's protector. The water dragon Faron, the province's protector, had been wounded by an attack from Ghirahim. Link heals her with Sacred Water from Skyview Spring, and she parts the waterfall in front of the Ancient Cistern, the dungeon hiding Farore's Flame. After Link defeats the boss, Koloktos, and with his newly powered sword, proceeds to the next step in his adventure.
Link must later visit the province in order to receive Faron's section of the Song of the Hero. The Faron Woods had become flooded, so Faron instructs Link to collect tadtone (musical notes) across the underwater forest. After successfully finding all of the tadtones, Faron lowers the water level so that you are able to make your way around Faron Woods normally again.

Trivia

• The name Faron most likely comes from the name of one of the Goddesses, Farore. Curiously, the large Hylian text on the map translates to "faronc", appearing to be a simple mistranslation.
• Interestingly enough, as the Hylian symbol for the letter "C" is but one stroke away from the Hylian symbol for "E", the word on the map potentially spells out "Farone". This is one letter away from "Farore", and "Farone" also happens to be the spanish version of her name.
