Eyesoar (パタラ, Patra) is the boss of Skull Dungeon in the game Oracle of Ages. It looks and behaves similarly to Patra from The Legend of Zelda. To rid Skull Dungeon of this monster, Link had to destroy the smaller eyes that orbit around Eyesoar, then use the Switch Hook to switch places with the main eye. This temporarily stunned the monster, allowing Link to run over and hit it with his sword. As he did this, the smaller eyes became far more aggresive. Despite its best efforts, Link emerged victorious in the battle between them, and moved to take the Burning Flame.

The Eyesoar is capable of dealing damage very fast simply in the way its smaller eyes spin around it, each causing half a heart of damage upon contact. However, if Link attacks the smaller eyes, the Eyesoar will very quickly regenerate new ones. The way to do this is for Link to grab the Eyesoar with the Switch Hook, then to attack it while it is vunerable. To penetrate the smaller eyes, Link may either perform a spin attack to get rid of some of the smaller eyes temporarily, then press his advantage and use the Switch Hook while the eyes are regenerating, or he may try simply try to grab the Eyesoar itself, ignoring the smaller eyes. This method is more suicidal, keep in mind, because of the damage the eyes inflict.

Eyesoar is the Boss of Skull Dungeon, the fourth Dungeon in Oracle of Ages.[2]

Characteristics

Eyesoar appears as a flying eyeball with four smaller eyes that orbit around it, similar to a Patra. As Eyesoar gradually chases Link around the room, its orbiting eyes will increase and decrease their radius to cover more ground. These smaller eyes can be defeated with several strikes from Link's Sword, but will quickly regenerate. To harm this Boss, Link must use the Switch Hook so that it penetrates its defenses and hits Eyesoar directly. This will dizzy the Boss and scatter the smaller eyes briefly, allowing Link to strike Eyesoar with his Sword before they return to formation. After taking enough damage, Eyesoar will be defeated, leaving behind a Heart Container and opening the door to the Burning Flame.

Nomenclature

Eyesoar shares its Japanese name with Patra, implying that they may be the same creature. Its name is a play on the word eyesore.
