Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia
— Bulbapedia

Bulbapedia is the largest English language wiki covering the Nintendo Pokémon series. Established on Valentine's Day of 2005, the site was named for the first Pokémon, Bulbasaur.[1] Bulbapedia is a founding member of the larger Encyclopaediae Pokémonis, which connects Pokémon wikis in currently seven members in different languages. Bulbapedia also jointly operates Bulbanews, Bulbagarden, and Bulba Archives, all of which are task specific Pokémon sites. When asked by Zelda Wiki.org to be an affiliate, Bulbapedia, it's owner Archaic and staff members not only enthusiastically agreed, but also began discussions for a larger Nintendo Wiki network with Super Mario Wiki. The NIWA network was founded and launched from these talks on Bulbapedia's 5th anniversary, February 14th, 2010.

Staff

Although, the owner of Bulbapedia is not involved in daily wiki tasks, the staff is able to make decisions and function smoothly. Their unique system consists of using an Editorial Board to set policy, issue statements, choose staff members, and appoint temporarily empowered aides to ensure operational functionality.

Relations With Other Wikis

  • Pokémon- Bulbapedia currently has six wiki affiliates specifically for the Pokémon series in other languages. To date these are English, German, Japanese, Polish, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. Each with unique names PokéWiki, Pokémon Wiki, Wikinezka, Poképédia, LANDpedia, and Pokéteca.
  • Nintendo- Along with Zelda Wiki.org and Super Mario Wiki, Bulbapedia has founded the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance. The founding wikis maintain positive relations among one another, aim to assist in policy, coding, rankings, and any other possible manners to keep the independent wikis up-to-date and standing as strong as possible.
  • Wikia- Like Zelda Wiki.org, Bulbapedia has had strained relationships with it's Wikia counterpart and found the Wikia staff entirely ignorant to the claims presented to them. Bulbapedia is also glad to have rejected an offer from the Wikia Network to join their ranks.[2]

Milestones

From the setup on December 21st, 2004, Bulbapedia has passed many milestones and humbly keep track of their growth.
