Template:Spoiler A list of the main and supporting characters in Link's Awakening.
Main Characters
Link
A storm destroyed Link's boat and left him stranded on Koholint Island. Now he is looking for a way off.
Marin
The girl who found Link washed up on shore. She resembles Princess Zelda and her dream is to become a seagull so she can fly around the world and sing to people.
Owl
A mysterious Owl who helps guide Link through his adventure.
Wind Fish
Koholint Island and its inhabitants are all part of the Wind Fish's dream. If Link is to escape from the island, he must wake the Wind Fish.
Main Antagonist
Nightmare
Nightmare is the shapeshifting evil keeping the Wind Fish asleep and Link trapped on the island. During the battle with Link, he transforms into enemies of Link's past. Upon his defeat the Wind Fish awakens and Koholint Island fades away.
Supporting Characters
Tarin
The father of Marin. He seems to have a thing for mushrooms.
Papahl and family
Papahl is the father of the four quadruplets on the island. He has another baby and a wife. The wife seems to think the baby would like a Yoshi Doll (which can be won in the Trendy Game shop).
Mutt
These are dogs found in Mabe Village. Although not normally aggressive, they will attack Link if provoked.
Shop Keeper
The shop keeper at Koholint sells items that are necessary for Link to complete his quest. Link can either pay for them, or he can decide to steal them, if he is ready to face the consequences. The next time Link enters the shop, the shop keeper will blast Link with a magic beam that instantly kills him.
Ulrira and Grandma Ulrira
Ulrira is a strange man who knows a lot about the island. However, he does not like to talk to people directly. Link needs to call Ulrira from one of the many phone booths to get information. Grandma Ulrira seems to enjoy sweeping a lot. At one point she breaks her broom from the amount of sweeping she does.
Madam MeowMeow
Madam MeowMeow really likes her dogs and becomes frantic when one is kidnapped.
Bow-Wow
Bow-Wow is one of Madam MeowMeow's dogs. He likes eating Goponga Flowers.
Mr. Write
Mr. Write loves writing letters.
Christine
Christine is a goat in the Animal Village who replies to Mr. Write's letters. She sends him a picture of Princess Peach, poking fun at long distance relationships through mail, e-mail, etc. since she is lying about what she looks like and Mr. Write believes he is writing to a beautiful woman.
Chef Bear
The chef in the Animal Village.
The artist in the Animal Village. He is the sculptor of the Mermaid Satatue found near Martha's Bay. His brother is Sale.
Hippo Model
A female hippo doing nude modeling for a painting by Schule Donavitch in the Animal Village. She is shy if some one approaches her. On the non-Japanese versions she is censored.
Walrus
The lazy Walrus blocks the entrance to Yarna Desert. He will only move for Marin's singing.
Rabbits
Several Rabbits inhabit the Animal Village.
Sale
Sale collects canned food in his House O' Bananas. His brother is Schule Donavitch.
Martha
The mermaid of Martha's Bay. Schule Donavitch made a statue of her, but it is not complete. She also seems to have lost her necklace.
Fishermen
There are two fishermen on Koholint Island. One is looking for a hook, the other will let Link try fishing, for a price.
Richard
Richard used to live in Kanalet Castle, but his servants went beserk and drove him away. He wants his Five Golden Leaves back.
Manbo
The sunfish king and writer of Manbo's Mambo.
Mamu
A frog that teaches Link Frog's Song of Soul, for a price.
Crazy Tracy
A girl who will sell Link her "secret" which will refill Link's hearts when he dies.
Syrup
Syrup is a witch who is trying to make Magic Powder, but she is short on mushrooms.
Kiki
Kiki is a hungry monkey sitting outside Kanalet Castle.
Cucco Keeper
The cucco keeper lives on top of Tal Tal Heights and tells Link the legend of the Flying Rooster
Ghost
A strange ghost that starts to haunt you before Catfish's Maw. He wants you to take him to his house and then his grave. He is named Nakura in the manga.
Mad Batter
Not named in the game, but the name comes from the official player's guide. Mad Batter will get woken up if Link sprinkles magic powder where he is resting. In order to punish Link, he makes Link carry more magic powder, bombs, or arrows. Needless to say, unlike the Mad Batter believes, this is quite helpful.
Peaceful Goriya
The Goriya who offer Link to trade one of his item for the boomerang, one of the most useful weapons in the game. The Goriya can be found in a cave on Toronbo Shores, only at the end of the trading sequence, when Link has the Magnifying Lens.
Spirit of Seashell Mansion
The Spirit of Seashell Mansion, who resides in Seashell Mansion, rewards Link with the Seashell Sword after Link collects at least 20 Secret Seashells.

Manga
Felicia
Appearing only in the manga, Felicia is a small fairy who carries around the Siren's Instruments for Link. The relationship between her and Link is somewhat hinted to be one of romance, although it is never confirmed either way.
Nakura
Nakura is the name given to the ghost who wants to be taken to his house in the manga. He is the one who gives Link a more powerful sword, as well as saves Link's life at one point by possessing him.
Karuna
Karuna is the self-proclaimed master of Koholint Island. He bears resemblance to, and likely is, a moblin. After Link has broken his sword in Angler's Tunnel, Karuna soon engages him in battle, proving to be a strong adversary, besting Link and almost being the death of him. However, Nakura's help allowed Link to both survive and gain a new sword. When Link and Karuna met for a second time, Karuna was killed quickly.
Master Drona
Master Drona is a Hinox, and stronger than the average one. As might be predicted of him, Drona fights simply for fun. Link's Sword Beam attack had no effect on him at all, when the two battled. Drona's skill in battle is almost unrivaled, as he was able to stop Link's attacks at a close range. However, Drona was eventually bested by a secret technique of Link's (Two Step Sword Revolution). As he lay dying, Drona's last words were "That was fun, kid."
