Letter
Template:Item Letters are recurring items in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]
Appearances
The Legend of Zelda
In The Legend of Zelda, Link can receive the Letter from the Old Man in a northeast cave of Hyrule. When Link shows the Letter to various Old Women, they will sell him Water of Life.
Link's Awakening
The Letter is the ninth item in the Trading Sequence in Link's Awakening.[2] It is received from Christine the Goat in Animal Village after giving her the Hibiscus, who gives Link the task of delivering her Letter to Mr. Write in western Goponga Swamp.[3] As thanks for his efforts, Mr. Write gives Link his Broom in exchange.[4][5]
Humorously, the Letter also includes a photograph that is signed from Christine, but is in actuality a photograph of Princess Peach from the Super Mario series.[5]
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, Zelda's Letter is obtained from Princess Zelda inside Hyrule Castle's Courtyard. It must be given to the Death Mountain Trail Gatekeeper in order to access the Death Mountain Trail. A Letter in a Bottle can also be found in Lake Hylia. The letter must be delivered to King Zora in order to gain access to Zora's Fountain.
Majora's Mask
In Majora's Mask, Link can receive the Letter to Kafei from Anju, which must be deposited in a Mailbox. Once Kafei receives it, he gives Link the Pendant of Memories in exchange. The young hero can also receive the Special Delivery to Mama from the Man from the Curiosity Shop. The letter must be delivered to Madame Aroma inside the Milk Bar. If Link delivers the letter himself, he will receive a Bottle with Chateau Romani. If Link gives the letter to the Postman instead, he will receive the Postman's Hat after the letter is delivered.
Oracle of Ages
In Oracle of Ages, Link receives the Letter of Introduction from a Goron. The letter must be delivered to the Graceful Goron, which will reward Link with the Mermaid Key after completing the Goron Dance.
The Wind Waker
In The Wind Waker, letters are carried in the Delivery Bag. Only letters needed to be delivered are stored in it, as letters addressed to Link are read and then discarded. A Letter Sorting minigame can also be played in Dragon Roost Island.
Four Swords Adventures
In Four Swords Adventures, Sweetie gives Link a Letter for her boyfriend, meant to repair their relationship. If he successfully brings the Letter to him in the Village of the Blue Maiden, he will be rewarded with the Roc's Feather.
Twilight Princess
- See also: Renado's Letter
In Twilight Princess, the Postman can deliver up to 16 letters to Link. They can be stored and viewed in the Collection screen. Link can also receive Renado's Letter, which must be delivered to Telma as part of the quest to retrieve Ilia's memory.
Phantom Hourglass
- See also: Jolene's Letter
In Phantom Hourglass, the Postman will fly to any wobbling Mailbox after Link checks it, reading any letter to him. Link can mail Prize Postcards after receiving any from the Man of Smiles. On the next day, he will have a response on whether he won or lost the drawing. Fuzo will also send a letter after any 4 new Big Plays were earned in Battle Mode, informing Link of his prize. Link can also obtain Jolene's Letter, which must be delivered to her siste, Joanne.
Spirit Tracks
In Spirit Tracks, the Postman no longer reads letters to Link, as there are new policies in place that prevent him from doing so. They now can be stored and read in the Collection screen.
