"Young Link" (若いリンク Rinku Shounen) indicates the initial/youthful stage of Link's life from the Ocarina of Time's adventure; ie. before he is cast seven years into the future by locating the Master Sword (see Adult Link). Young Link is advantageous over his older form in that he can access certain small passages and the likes, although he lacks the fighting power of his later self, as well as access to fundamental equipment. The very same child Link also appears in Majora's Mask, and he is also an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Young Link is known as the truest Link in the entire series or at least, in the the game itself. Just like his adult self, Link doesn't speak unless he is asked a question, the only time he actually said anything is when Young Zelda asks him of his name, when he does reply, the letters are green.

Through his adventures in the manga and video game, Link doesn't seems to be annoyed by Navi or Tatl in the least, and though Mido and Link seem to be rivals, it's only something to noted as a small event that happened in his life, in the Kokiri Forest, Link seems to have feelings for Saria and basically this is why Mido dislikes him, but rather yet he may know or have the feeling that Saria may like him the same way. Link is willing to help anyone in danger and he seems to have a sense of justice and bravery that no one else has.

In Majora's Mask, Link takes the stage light as the main hero over the game. In the beginning it seems not only has he lost some memories but he had many things made, for example, Malon has lent Epona to Link for his far away quest, he seems to have an adult wallet with him, he keeps the Kokiri Sword but left the Deku Shield behind. Link can now do things he couldn't do before and in that effect, his background changes dramatically over time.

Majora's Mask

The story tells of Link (after beating Ganon) leaving to find Navi the fairy. It's unknown why in the game or who he is looking for, but the manga explains most of the inner workings of the story, as he drifts along in his adventures he comes along a dark being known as Skull Kid. It seems he has cursed the world of Termina and at the same time placed a spell over Link to become a Deku Scrub. After removing the spell, he finds out who the Skull Kid actually is and what is happening around him. He begins to take action as soon as possible, saving people, freeing at least 5 spirits and bring the sacred giants to stop an oncoming fate. At the end of the game Link never finds Navi but the world of Termina is safe at last, and Link is free to move on with his life.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Young Link is an unlockable character within the game Super Smash Bros. Melee. There are two ways to unlock him: 1) beat 500 battlers in vs. matches 2) complete Classic mode with 10 different characters at any difficulty/stock. You'll then be challenged by Young Link; when you do defeat him to play him. Also, you can change Young Link's tunic from blue to red and to black.

When you fight with him, Link is dressed in his usual clothes like in the other games. He is possibly the Majora's Mask version because he can use the Fire Arrow and he appears in Great Bay instead of Lake Hylia. However, he also wields the Deku Shield and the Ocarina of Time version of the Kokiri Sword. Thus, since the Link in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are the same Link, it seems logical that it is based on both of his appearances as a youngster rather than either specific one. He seems to be faster and more flexible with his movements then his adult counterpart which makes him a bit harder to defeat. The best choice of beating him is ether with Link or Mario. When he taunts his foes, he drinks a bottle of Lon Lon Milk then wipes his mouth (this will not recover your status while in battle).

Notes

Young Link can only carry these items while in this form (in Ocarina of Time that is):

Young Link is able to use the elemental arrows in both Majora's Mask and Super Smash Bros. Melee.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Young Link has the same skills as Link, only weaker and shorter range on the hookshot, and other minor details. In the English version, as the crowd cheers for Link they only call him by his U.S. name, the Japanese crowd does not cheer at all.
