Saria

Saria is Link's dearest friend in the Kokiri Forest in Ocarina of Time. She is a wise and popular girl amongst the Kokiri and readily defends Link from the taunts of the other children. After the events that led to the Deku Tree's death and Link leaving the forest Saria gave him the Fairy Ocarina to remember her by. When Link later returns to the forest Saria teaches him Saria's Song so they can talk to each other no matter how far away they are.

When Link becomes an adult, Saria tells him that she is in danger in the forest through use of her song. Link proceeds to travel to the Forest Temple and lift the curse put on it, allowing the Deku Tree Sprout to grow and Saria to awaken as the Sage of the Forest. From then on she takes a somewhat more active role then the rest of the sages as she continues to keep in touch with Link through her song while remaining in the temple.

Saria plays the Ocarina and has a secret hiding place in the Lost Woods called the Sacred Forest Meadow. She often goes there when she wants to escape from life and reflect.

In The Adventure of Link the river village is named Saria.

Trivia

  • The appearance of the receptionist in Mayor Dotour's Office in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was recycled in the planning stages of Ocarina of Time. Originally it was planned that this model would be Saria as an Adult after the 7 years and that she would find out that she was Hylian. This idea was scrapped in the favor of keeping Saria a Kokiri in terms with all the sages being a different race.
