The Torch Slug (トーチスラグ, Tōchi Suragu) is a flame-based mollusk that haunts the catacombs of the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time and several dungeons in Twilight Princess. Invulnerable while its flames are lit (although this does not apply when using the Biggoron Sword), the slug will dash towards prey or foe, slamming

into them with great force, usually knocking medium or small sized creatures backwards onto the floor. It is known that weapons like a sword can be used to destroy their protective flame, uncovering a gray, weak flesh that is the real body of the slug. Striking again will result in the death of the slug. Another good tactic In Ocarina of Time is to hit the ground with the Megaton Hammer which flips them while also dousing their fire. They are then immobilized and can be killed by simply slashing them. Their signature sound comes from them crawling along the floor, resulting in a high-pitched rubber-like tone.

Torch Slugs are found in abundance in the Goron Mines in Twilight Princess and can also be found within the Cave of Ordeals. They often crawl on walls or on the ceiling and threaten to drop down onto Link, potentially knocking him off a ledge and into a pit of lava. While they can be annoying, when pitted against Link's arsenal of weapons they prove to be much weaker than their previous incarnation and can be destroyed with a single hit from any weapon. Their only means of defense is to release a small wave of flames from their body which they seem to do almost randomly rather than when provoked.

Because Torch Slugs are so slow-moving, Link will always have the option to perform the Ending Blow when targeting them, although doing so can be risky, as the reach of his sword will not be adequate to protect him against the slug's fiery attack.
