Crystal Ball in A Link to the Past
Crystal Ball in A Link to the Past

Fortune Tellers have appeared in several games since the introductory title, The Legend of Zelda.[citation needed] The only similar trait among most of them is the requirement of paying Rupees for a cryptic fortune. The fortunes are intended to function as an aid on Link's current quest task.

Appearances

A Link to the Past

A few Fortune Telling shops can be found around Hyrule, in both the Light World and the Dark World, in A Link to the Past. One north of Kakariko Village, another beside the Lake Hylia Shop Cave along the northwestern shore of Lake Hylia, and a third north of the Village of Outcasts. This fortune teller charges between 10 and 30 Rupees and hopes Link will be healthy at the end of the fortunes told. At this point, all of Link's hearts refill.

Inishie no Sekiban

In Inishie no Sekiban, the fortunetller is the one who finds the Hero of Light and sends him to Hyrule.

Four Swords Adventures

In Four Swords Adventures, a mage in Kakariko Village charges Link 100 Force Gems for a fortune. There are four possible outcomes: Link can either lose a further 300 Force Gems, he can gain one (meaning he ends up with a net loss of 99), or he can gain 200 or 300, giving him a profit of 100 or 200. The number of hearts displayed during the Fortune Teller's prediction determines Link's prize.

Twilight Princess

Madame Fanadi in her fortune telling shop
Main article: Madame Fanadi

The Career Fortune offered by Madame Fanadi in Twilight Princess is much like the Fortunes of A Link to the Past, in which she advises on current quest requirements. The Love Fortune serves merely as a guide to finding Pieces of Heart.

Phantom Hourglass

Main article: Astrid

Found on the Isle of Ember in Phantom Hourglass, Astrid like most other fortune tellers of the Zelda series offers advice on where to go next or what needs to be done to progress further into the game. She does not require Rupees however.

Skyward Sword

Main article: Sparrot

Found at the Bazaar in Skyward Sword, Sparrot, like most other fortune tellers of the Zelda series, offers advice on where to go next or what needs to be done to progress further into the game. Sparrot also offers advice concerning treasure items.

Trivia

  • The Fortune Teller from A Link to the Past shares her appearance with the mages who support Vaati in Four Swords Adventure.
