If after ten treasures have been dug up, you continue digging, you will be fined 100 rupees by the statue at the entrance. If even after this you continue, you will fined all of your current rupees leaving you with nothing, then if you dig again, you'll be banned from playing... to play again, you need to pay 300 rupees.
