The brothers that control the Flight Control Platform challenge Link to a quirky mini-game: in order to win a prize, Link must traverse a specific sea distance and cross a pre-determined finish line, set out in the open ocean. The stretch of sea in question incorporates several wind vortexes into its design; the Deku Leaf is designed perfectly for catching the spinning air and pushing Link upward, aiding in his descent toward the finish line. The challenge lies in catching the vortexes; they all have paths of their own, and lay at different intervals from each other; one missed vortex may cause the young hero to run out of magic, causing his Deku Leaf to fail, subsequently losing the challenge.

The contest can normally only be completed with a doubled Magic Meter, obtainable from the fairy at Two-Eye Reef, as Link will not be able to make it to the finish line with his regular meter — the distance is too great. However, it is possible to use the Tingle Tuner to gain a distance boost at the beginning with a Tingle Balloon as well as replenish magic power as Link flies. This may seem like cheating, but according to Obli, Link is free to use any means he wishes to get to the goal.

Flight Control Platform

Features and Overview

The Flight Control Platform is operated by Willi and Obli, a pair of Human siblings with such an unhealthy obsession with the Rito that they dress themselves up as Rito.[2][3] On the first level of the Flight Control Platform, Old Man Ho Ho can be found staring at the distant banner.[4]

A Submarine can be found southwest of the Flight Control Platform. Within it is a single step switch that Link must press to summon the enemies that are required to be defeated in order to open the chest at the end of the Submarine. Within the chest is the Platform Chart, showing the locations of all the Sea Platforms. In addition, after collecting and opening the Treasure Chart guarded in Four-Eye Reef, the young hero can retrieve the Island Hearts Chart.
