In The Legend of Zelda, Link can receive the Letter by the old man in a northeast cave of Hyrule. When Link shows the Letter to an various old women, they will sell him Life Potions and 2nd Potions.

In Link's Awakening, a letter is part of the game's trading sequence. The letter is obtained from Christine, a goat from Animal Village, when you give her the Hibiscus. This letter is for Mr. Write, and is apparently a love letter - however, the photo that Christine has enclosed is actually of Princess Peach! In exchange for receiving the letter, Mr. Write will give you a broom.

In The Wind Waker, letters are carried in the Delivery Bag. More often than not, these letters are to be delivered than received. Curiously they cannot be posted, despite the presence of Postboxes on most islands on the Great Sea.

Throughout Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass, the Postman will deliver letters to Link, but the letters can only be kept and reviewed later in Twilight Princess.
