Rocks are found in virtually every Zelda game. The term "rock" or "stone" is generally reserved for such an object that acts as an obstacle, or can be destroyed to find Hearts, Rupees, or other spare items like arrows and bombs. They can be removed in a number of ways, depending on the game, such as picking them up and throwing them, breaking them with a hammer or blowing them up with a bomb. If a rock is thrown, it can damage enemies.

Link can only push certain rocks, and only after he has obtained the Power Bracelet. The boulders that fall off of Death Mountain are occasionally classified as Rocks.
Rocks usually yield items when destroyed, such as Hearts, Rupees, Arrows, and Bombs. They also serve as obstacles that must be lifted and thrown, or destroyed by the use of Bombs or a Hammer. When thrown, they can also damage some enemies.

The Adventure of Link
To move or lift some Rocks, Link must wear certain items in order to do so. In ALttP, Link must wear the Power Gloves to lift silver Rocks, while the Titan's Mitt are required to lift brown ones. He can also use the Pegasus Shoes to destroy piles of Rocks. In OoT, large, unbombable rocks can be lifted by Adult Link by using the Silver and Golden Gauntlets, although the bronze ones, using the same model with the coloring, can be destroyed by using the Megaton Hammer; both rocks for MM, the hammer stones can be smashed using Goron Link's punching technique, or detonated with a Powder Keg, and the silver rocks, including but not limited to stones placed underwater, can only be lifted by his transformation. In TP, Link can also use Bomb Arrows to destroy Rocks from afar.
Link is only able to destroy boulders in his path in the overworld after he has obtained the Glove.

A Link to the Past
Rocks also appear as visual hints, mostly pointing out hidden areas or covering secrets. In -, Magical Warp Tiles can sometimes be found under Rocks. Some large Rocks also hide beneath them Treasure Chests. In ALBW, some Rocks hide beneath them lost Maiamais.
Most rocks are denoted by a light green color, though some darker heavier ones can seen throughout Hyrule. Though Link can't initially pick up or destroy any type of rock, the Power Glove enables him to carry lightweight rocks, and the Titan's Mitt allows him to lift and throw heavier and even larger rocks than himself. Throwing a rock at an enemy will heavily damage it, usually resulting in an instant-kill. The most common rocks can be destroyed with the Magic Hammer, and charging into them with the Pegasus Boots can eradicate piles.

Though the placement of Rocks is generally used for visual appeal, there are a few rocks with more meaningful locations. Aside from being a general obstacle and barricade that restrict Links access to caves and movements through paths, some hide holes and entrances to caves, and others  Magical Warp Tiles. Removing these Rocks is necessary for Link to collect all Heart Pieces and gain accuse to new areas.
In the Dark World and Lorule, Rocks are replaced with Skulls, which may occasionally turn out to be Stals.

As a child, certain small rocks can only be picked up after having obtained the Goron Bracelet. When Link is an adult, these small rocks can be picked up without it. Also when he is an adult, certain boulders and pillar-like rocks can be picked up thrown in a similar fashion with the Silver and Golden Gauntlets. Though even with these aids, it is clear heavier objects are still more strenuous to lift and throw. Some rocks can also, or only, be destroyed with the use of Bombs, Bombchu, or the Megaton Hammer.

Varieties
Variations
The most common Rocks through out the series are small and large rocks, and are generally the easiest to deal with. However, there are other varieties that require improved equipment, or even have special properties.
Stone Watchers
Stone Watcher
In TWW, Stone Watchers appear in various locations hiding secret caves beneath them, or covering secret passages and entrances. They can only be lifted by wearing the Power Bracelets found inside the Fire Mountain, where the first Stone Watcher is found blocking the exit.

Dark Rock
Nomenclature
This Rock is seen in ALttP and OoT, and is the counter part to more common rocks in there respected game. This Rock usually requires the highest form of strength to move, Titan's Mitt and Golden Gauntlet respectively. The Dark Rock found in OoT however, can be destroyed with the Megaton Hammer, but requires more hits then the normal Large Rocks.
Nomenclature
Black Pillar Rock
Black pillar-like rocks appear in Ocarina of Time. They appear late in the game and are only found blocking the tunnel to the Great Fairy Fountain outside of Ganon's Castle, as well as in certain barrier rooms inside the castle. They can only be picked up with the Golden Gauntlets, and are immediately thrown.

Sparkling Rocks
This type of rock appears in ALBW, and has little glimmers of green light that bounce off it. If Link picks up the rock, it will act as a normal rock. Though if struck by a sword, it will have green Rupees fly out every time it is hit, for a limited time. If Link hits the rock fast enough before time runs out, the rock will occasionally drop a higher value Rupee.

Large Cracked Rock
Found in ALBW.

Rocks(TLoZ | OoS | OoA | TWW | TMC | TP | HW) are recurring Objects in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][name references needed]

Location and Uses

Link lifting a small Rock from Ocarina of Time 3D

Rocks usually yield items when destroyed, such as Hearts, Rupees, Arrows, and Bombs. They also serve as obstacles that must be lifted and thrown, or destroyed by the use of Bombs or a Hammer. When thrown, they can also damage some enemies.

To move or lift some Rocks, Link must wear certain items in order to do so. In A Link to the Past, Link must wear the Power Gloves to lift silver Rocks, while the Titan's Mitt are required to lift brown ones. He can also use the Pegasus Shoes to destroy piles of Rocks. In Ocarina of Time, large, unbombable rocks can be lifted by Adult Link by using the Silver and Golden Gauntlets, although the bronze ones, using the same model with the coloring, can be destroyed by using the Megaton Hammer; both rocks for Majora's Mask, the hammer stones can be smashed using Goron Link's punching technique, or detonated with a Powder Keg, and the silver rocks, including but not limited to stones placed underwater, can only be lifted by his transformation. In Twilight Princess, Link can also use Bomb Arrows to destroy Rocks from afar.

Rocks also appear as visual hints, mostly pointing out hidden areas or covering secrets. In A Link to the Past, Magical Warp Tiles can sometimes be found under Rocks. Some large Rocks also hide beneath them Treasure Chests. In A Link Between Worlds, some Rocks hide beneath them lost Maiamais.

In the Dark World and Lorule, Rocks are replaced with Skulls, which may occasionally turn out to be Stals.
