Image Uploads

Hello, I noticed that some of your recent image uploads are against policy, so I thought I'd remind you what they were. In regards to the images you uploaded for the Hylian Language page, it is usually frowned upon to upload edited screenshots, even with text over them. You should instead upload them without the text, if possible. And about the images you uploaded with in-game character dialogue, it is better to use reference tags to cite the dialogue instead. In case you're unfamiliar, this is how it looks:

<ref>{{Cite|Character dialogue.|Character name|Game abbreviation}}</ref>

Which in use would look like this:

<ref>{{Cite|Hey! Good morning, Link.|Zelda|SS}}</ref>

Also, since articles are to be written in an in-universe style, you should avoid usage of "you" or "the player", instead using "Link" or "the young hero". Additionally, you should avoid saying "Please see the link here", as it seems unprofessional.
Finally, in regards to galleries, make sure that the images are relevant enough to fit within a gallery. Unedited maps of locations are passable, but unless it's artwork that pertains to the actual subject, I suggest avoiding adding it. You can take a look at other pages that have galleries and base your judgment on that.
Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. If you're still unsure about something, just ask. :) - TonyT S C 22:25, 23 January 2012 (EST)

Hi. Kinda sleepy so I'll keep this short, please excuse me if I come off as anything but polite because that is not my intention. A) About the images with text written over them. I can upload the versions without any text, but would it be possible to also link versions with the text on top of them somewhere? I just feel it is easier for an average user to grasp the translation with the text, as an additional resource to the regular screen shot without any text. B) How do you recommend I place this image + note in the Spiral Charge page (Skyward Sword move Link can perform on his Loftwing)? Image is at URL http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7273/spiralchargehiddenchest.jpg That is the image I want to add to visually illustrate that when you learn the Spiral Charge, there are two small floating islands you can perform this move on to destroy rock and uncover hidden chests. What would the best way to go about it? C) What images were against policy? I'm sorry I'm not familiar enough with them to know what the policy was. D) Thank you for clearing up that I can just quote a character for the sake of reference. I was worried that what trivia I added would get deleted unless I added proof, like the screenshots. Thank you. Queazy 07:17, 24 January 2012 (EST)
A) and C) I'm talking about the images with the text over them. I recommend that you use the text-less images, but if you want to refer to the translations, you have multiple options: You can provide a translation in the image description when you upload them, or if you want to link to the edited images, upload the edited images first, then reupload the original image without the text. Through doing this, you can externally link to past revisions of the page. However, we don't really use the images except on the Hylian Language Translations page (where they are already followed by a translation), so I don't see much use in it.
B) I would suggest that you just upload one image of Link charging through the rock and add that image to the main section of the Spiral Charge page, detailing how it's possible. - TonyT S C 04:56, 25 January 2012 (EST)

BotW Sheikah Translations

Hey Queazy, I just want to make sure you're aware of some recent corrections I've been making to your uploads. There's a few things so I'll just number them for readability.

  1. Per our uploading guidelines, all files should have the initialism of the game at the start of the file's name, and that initialism should follow the capitalization of the game titles themselves (for example, BotW for Breath of the Wild, ALBW for A Link Between Worlds even though you would normally set the B as lowercase). You shouldn't use BOTW for filenames ever.
  2. Breath of the Wild isn't a source for a file. That's already covered in the game field. Instead, that field should be used for where the image was obtained. If you were the one who retrieved it yourself, you would use the Original Source template ({{Original Source|Queazy}}).
  3. The subject field should only be used with valid terms, so Hylian Typography which isn't an actual term in the series shouldn't be put there.
  4. The summary field should just be a brief description of the image itself. For instance, if you were uploading a file about an Apple from Breath of the Wild, you should write An {{Term|BotW|Apple|link}} as seen in-game.
  5. This isn't something you need to do but it's highly recommended that you use the Term template instead of linking with normal brackets, whenever an official term is used.

If you want to see some examples of these points in action, you can check out my revision to this page here. Thanks for all your hard work. TriforceTony (talk) 23:20, 17 July 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry to jump in with more stuff but there are two more important things:
  1. When linking to files, please never use underscores in the file name. This makes it harder to replace text when necessary.
  2. We also have screenshot standards for Breath of the Wild, especially for whenever Link must appear in the shot itself. It's not a huge deal but files that don't match those standards will probably be replaced in the future.
Many thanks. TriforceTony (talk) 23:38, 17 July 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you for the help. I have to admit, I don't get it all, but I understand that there are rules and guidelines that this place adheres to and I haven't been adhering to them. I think I will have to upload a file for the "other" BotW Beedle Shop sign (since he has two, one white & one blue). Queazy (talk) 23:51, 17 July 2019 (UTC)QueazyReply[reply]

You're doing good. Just try to follow the guidelines as you can, and the rest of us can make corrections if you miss anything. TriforceTony (talk) 00:20, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
