Yo

Hey man, it's Oni. Popped by Zeldapedia to note something (spelling of Eastmost Peninsula was finally corrected in the Switch Release of LOZ [1]). Saw that the recent changes list was absolutely empty. No edits at all in the past three months. Honestly felt like a part of me had died. Now I know how the Last Unicorn felt. How are things getting going on here? Did the move work out well? Jotari (talk) 10:13, 10 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey Oni, good to hear from you. There's a reason there's been no recent changes: we're not actually supposed to be editing ZP anymore. I don't know if you knew, but the whole site has been locked (every page has basically been protected) from editing except by staff. It's been archived as of June 15, and it'll probably be closed down eventually, so there's really no point in editing it anymore.
I say this with a bit of awkwardness, but would you consider rollbacking all of your edits after June 15th? We've been having a hard time convincing people in the Discussions section that ZP has been closed down, since Fandom hasn't found a way to actually shut the /d down yet. Seeing recent activity on the wiki might prolong that, and I think it would be best to close the book on the site for good as of June 15th.
Things are fairly active here, even if I'm not. I got a kind of crash course on some of the policies and how to edit, but I've found that I don't have the motivation to edit much anymore, so I'm pretty much retired. Once BotW 2 comes out I might add in some content as I play it, but that'll probably be the extent of my editing. Either way, it's good to hear from you; don't be a stranger. – Ceiling Master (talk) 09:46, 12 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah. I didn't realize edits weren't supposed to happen at all. That explains it. I think if I rollback things now it'll just add more activity. Best to just leave things be perhaps. Though I'm not sure why the need for the shut down. Why not just leave it to the wilderness? Jotari (talk) 03:38, 14 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nomenclature

How do you decide what does/doesn’t fit into the nomenclature section? I’ve generally tried to avoid putting information up on there unless it looks really likely, but I’m guessing that’s not right. In the recent case (Elsie) I added it because old wiki said she was probably named after Elsie the Cow (the mascots of the Borden Dairy Company) and after I looked her up on Wikipedia to see if she was actually relevant, I thought (given her fame and apparent symbolism of the perfect dairy product) it was probably safe to put up.

If I have to write another page that has potential information from a Nomenclature how should I check? Bagadew (talk) 18:39, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I removed that because it was pure speculation; although I can see the possibility of a connection, it didn't have a source or anything. In retrospect, maybe I should have added {{Fact}} instead of removing it, but I'm not sure what the guidelines are there.
As for nomenclature (or etymology as I'm familiar with it) in general, I guess it's just a judgment call. For stuff like the Wind Tribe members having their names based on weather-related things, that's obvious because there's a pattern. But for a one-off cow being named after a real-world famous cow? That's a bit more of a stretch in my opinion.
In any case, Tony would probably have a better, more detailed answer on what should and shouldn't go in those sections if this wasn't helpful. – Ceiling Master (talk) 19:38, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Termina Retcon

The encyclopedia is clearly incorrect, why uphold information that is clearly faulty at best and outright contradictory of the source material at worst?. Is this a low quality wiki that adds whatever it feels like willy-nilly?, it'd be an embarrassment to fans of the series if that's the case.

I don't have to "take it up" anywhere, it's flat out 'wrong'- undeniably so- and should not be taken as Gospel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Heronexus12 15:06, 26 January 2020

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way – the Encyclopedia has Nintendo's official seal of approval and in some places is an official retconning of whatever came before. I'm not a fan of certain portions of it either, but we're here to document everything whether we agree with it or not. Removing of content isn't the way to go about it, and being borderline insulting certainly won't give your viewpoint any more merit. I'd encourage you to either join the Discord server or bring it up on a relevant talk page, as long as you discuss it in a civil manner. – Ceiling Master (talk) 22:34, 26 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question

May I have the permission to edit articles on Zeldapedia? Wc12271991 (talk) 07:20, 31 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Zeldapedia has been archived and the community merged with Zelda Wiki over six months ago. So no, nobody can edit the articles on Zeldapedia anymore. – Ceiling Master (talk) 09:55, 31 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I see. Wc12271991 (talk) 21:35, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Radical idea

I have a question to ask. Why do this wiki have a complicated templating system for every single term? I think we should get rid of all that and write plain text. It'll simplify content writing, ease editors, and hopefully draw many new contributors. What do you think? Burning Snow 11:23, 7 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

TPHD Ganon

Hey, the [[File:TPHD Ganondorf Artwork.png]] featured on Ganon#Backstory and in his gallery is broken. Neffyarious (talk) 17:35, 15 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hm, that's strange. I'll raise it on our Discord server and see if it's a known bug on the new UCP platform. – Ceiling Master 00:01, 16 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dragon Statue

RE File:BotW_Thyphlo_Ruins_entrance.jpg, I notice you removed the subject "Dragon Statue". I'm curious as to why that is? I used the term based on this quote:

"As we were in the process of creating the cities and people of every region of Hyrule, we thought that if we showed fragments of a civilization that collapsed long ago, it would make the world feel more real. That’s why we added Zonai relics throughout Hyrule. The ruins are primarily animal themed, but with the history of the Triforce from an ancient perspective in mind. The designs are symbolic—using dragons (courage), owls (wisdom), and boars (power). And, yes, their name is a pun. “Zonai” is a take on nazo, a word meaning “mystery” in Japanese. [laughs]" —Developer’s Note–Senior Lead Artist, Landscape: Makoto Yonezu - Creating a Champion, Page 342

It's one of these ruins depicting a dragon. If the subject term is insufficient, what would you propose instead? Mrjmzack (talk) 03:16, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The subject field of the FileInfo template is reserved specifically for Terms. Unfortunately, "Dragon Statue" isn't a Term based on that quote – only capitalized or colorized text in official sources are considered to be Terms.
In the absence of a Term like that, File:BotW Thyphlo Ruins.png should be the filename, and Thyphlo Ruins should be in the subject field. – Ceiling Master (talk · contributions) 11:56, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nintendo staff category

Good afternoon and happy Friday!

I plan to move the Category:Monolith Soft to Category:Monolith Soft Staff so I can make a Category:Nintendo Staff more relevant.

Is that OK?

Thanks, Takamori.Shiho (talk) 17:43, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The userpage currently shows up in mainspace categories, which is confusing to readers and, I have to assume, not meant to be permanent. If y'all don't already have a policy about that, you really should, it's fairly standard across the fan wiki ecosystem to take some kind of measure to keep draft or user articles out of mainspace categories. I used pre tags instead of deleting the infobox entirely so that the code could still easily be tested simply by disabling the tags when desired. Furthermore, I had posted a notification about the issue on the userpage's talk page over a week beforehand, and with no response I naturally assumed the page was abandoned.

If it's intentional to have the page show up in mainspace categories, well, that's y'all's prerogative, but if not something should be done about it.{{SUBST:KrytenKoroSig}} 17:43, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Tony has a lot of pages in their sandbox userspace, and I think most of them are various formatting/layout tests that happen to appear in mainspace categories. I do agree that mainspace categories should be exclusive to mainspace pages, so I'll bring it up in our Discord server and see if that gets any feedback. – Ceiling Master (talk · contributions)

Hey Mate this is about infobox region releases

On all Zelda releases it lists the regions the games were released in, but it lists Europe as 'European Union' which is wrong as the UK is in Europe but no longer in 'European Union' maybe we can change the template data to correct this, as most if not all Zelda games released in 'EU' was released in the UK, hopefully this could be done, thankyou my friend! Hey Ezee, I wanted to say that we have seen your message and are currently discussing it, so you don't need to keep posting it on people's talk pages. We'll have an answer for you soon, so please just hold on while we figure it out. 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 (𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤) 18:27, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sorry, and thankyou friend! Ezee03 (talk) 18:33, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Excuse me sorry

I can't find or activate your talk page you mentioned for people to chat with you so excuse that I can't find your talk page or how the page is unavailable.

But anyway all the pages you said that you want to leave blank on here. Well I wanted to point something out. I'm trying to send screen shots of the pages where you said you are trying to leave them "blank unless there is citation to go with it" well those pages you are talking about. I took screenshots of where it shows the genders of the characters on the Zelapedia the same characters you just removed the genders from saying you want to leave them blank. Well they aren't blank on the Zelapedia so why leave them blank on here when the other wiki you are also in charge of doesn't have keep or have thst information blank? Trying to do my best here to chat on a talk page or message wall but I don't if I'm giving the right link to a message wall or if my talk page will even work because I had hard time finding your talk page and it didn't work not sure how well my talk page will work. Thick Metal

I moved your message here, to my actual talk page – look for the "talk" link near my username and it'll take you here.
Screenshots of Zeldapedia aren't sufficient citations; we need something like a line of dialogue from in-game where someone uses a gendered pronoun, or a comment in a guide where someone is referred to with a gender. Unless Zeldapedia has citations like that (which I doubt), then its information is just as much an assumption as us putting a gender down without a citation.
I'd encourage you to join our Discord server – it's a lot easier to collaborate and communicate in real-time than trying to play talk page tag here on the wiki. – Ceiling Master (talk · contributions)

Sorry the link you have active didn't take me here it took me somewhere else that's why I had trouble accessing and finding your talk page. User:Thick Metal

Hi, I am Fandom's new Senior Community Manager for Gaming

Hello there! My name is Jieyang and I'm going around saying hi to admins in the community. I joined about two weeks ago but you'll be seeing me around more in the future. I didn't have the opportunity to play any of the Zelda games growing up because we didn't have any consoles in the house when I was a kid. But I was able to enjoy them on the 3DS in my later years. And, of course, BOTW is absolutely phenomenal and I guess now we're all just... waiting for TOTK.

You can learn more about me through my blog. Feel free to drop me a message on Discord as well! - Itsjieyang (talk) 19:59, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
