Shouldn't it be mentioned...

...that these appear in Super Mario Maker when you place a spike underwater in SMW style? Peanutjon (talk) 05:26, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

They don't have eyes like in the Zelda games, so they might be just generic spikes. Besides, they don't share the same name. - Chuck * (Talk) 05:14, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Actually they use the same sprites as in Link's Awakening, only reshaded with the Thwomp's palette. They only appear in the SMW style as NSMBU and SMB1 only generate regular spikes, and SMB3 generate Jelectros.--Hero of Termina (talk) 04:31, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That doesn't mean that the ones in SMM are based on those from Link's Awakening though. - Midoro (T C) 05:24, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Actually it does.--Hero of Termina (talk) 03:26, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Here is an Urchin from the Mario series. Note the sprites at the bottom of the page. In the Mario games they are depicted as purple creatures with orange spikes, small eyes and lips. In Link's Awakening, the Sea Urchins are dark with much larger eyes and more closely resembles the Gordo enemies from the Kirby series. They are not the same, and the sprites are in no way identical. - Midoro (T C) 22:07, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Wait, do you know what we're referring to? Not the Urchins from Mario, those don't appear in SMM (as far as I'm aware). The exact sprites from Link's Awakening appear in Super Mario Maker when you place a spike underwater in the Super Mario World style. Like Jelectro does in Super Mario Bros. 3. see? Peanutjon (talk) 02:22, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And now we have undeniable proof to include it on the main page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hero of Termina (talk) 21:16, 11 April 2016
Fine, I guess it could be included then. But only as trivia. - Midoro (T C) 04:04, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Actually it should probably just be moved to this page, and the comparison preceding it should be removed. - TonyT S C 04:06, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Why was the Mario/Kirby reference removed? Cameos of The Legend of Zelda in Nintendo Media is for appearance of Zelda characters in other media, not the other way aroud. In fact, the design originated from the Kirby series, see: wikirby.com/wiki/Gordo#Gallery . Considering the number of Nintendo characters in LA, it's clear the Sea Urchings are cameo as well. Jeangabin (talk) 21:37, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The connection to Gordos is entirely speculative and cannot be proven, certainly far from being "in fact". That's why it was removed. - TonyT S C 04:47, 26 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
