The Molduking is a giant Molduga subspecies that gained power by resting underground for centuries, absorbing iron into its skin to bolster its defensive capabilities far beyond its Molduga counterparts.[2] Consequently, the Molduking is seen with a Gerudo Spear, Golden Claymore, Rusty Broadsword, Rusty Halberd, and a Throwing Spear sticking out of its hide, indicating failed attempts to slay it. 100 years ago, Urbosa faced the Molduking as part of her Divine Beast Tamer's Trial.[3][4]

Similar to its Molduga counterparts, the Molduking swims beneath the Sand in the East Barrens, searching for prey. When it detects movement, the Molduking will rush towards the disturbance and leap into the air, attempting to consume the source. Link can trick the Molduking into exposing itself by throwing Remote Bombs or shooting Bomb Arrows at the sand nearby. If it is struck by either explosive force while in the air, the Molduking will fall to the ground below and temporarily lie stunned.

During the "EX Champion Urbosa's Song" Main Quest, Link is tasked with slaying the Molduking.[5] Once this happens, Keive Tala Shrine will rise from the Sand nearby. After the Molduking has been defeated, it will reappear in the East Barrens following every Blood Moon.

When Link speaks to Teake during "EX Champion Urbosa's Song", she mentions there have been sightings of the Molduking in the East Barrens and that Traysi went to investigate.[6] Traysi can be found on a mesa in the East Barrens, where she shares that Gerudo have tried fighting the Molduking, but their swords were unable to deal any damage.[7] When Link defeats the Molduking, Traysi is impressed and asks if she can write about it.[8] However, she takes his silence as a denial.[9]

Like the Igneo Talus Titan, the defeat of the Molduking does not count towards its respective Medal of Honor.
