"From the Ground Up" is a Side Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview

"From the Ground Up" can be started after the completion of the "Hylian Homeowner" Side Quest in Hateno Village. Link must speak to Hudson after purchasing his house. During their conversation, Hudson informs Link that he will be leaving soon,[2] since he has been transferred.[3] Bolson Construction is planning expansions,[4] specifically in the Akkala Region.[5]

When Link wishes him luck, Hudson stands and decides to leave right then.[6] He invites Link to come visit him,[7] before telling him to take care and setting off.[8]

Afterwards, Hudson can be found on the rocky island in the middle of Lake Akkala.[9] When Link does not recognize him, Hudson will reintroduce himself.[10] Since his transfer, Hudson has decided to create an entire village,[11] which he will call Tarrey Town.[12] However, Hudson is lacking in both supplies and manpower to make a village.[13]

If Link offers to help him, Hudson asks what is in it for him.[14] When Link insists that he does not mind, Hudson says that he is a lifesaver.[15] In order to build more houses, Hudson asks for 10 bundles of Wood.[16]

Once Link has acquired the 10 bundles of Wood, he can speak to Hudson again to give them to him.[17] Next, Hudson admits that he is having a difficult time clearing out the boulders.[18] He asks Link to find someone with "brute physical strength",[19] such as a Goron.[20] Since it seems like a longshot, he wishes Link luck.[21] Before he leaves, Hudson informs Link that their name must end with "son", in accordance to Bolson Construction policy.[22]

Link can find the Goron, Greyson, at the Southern Mine in the Eldin Canyon. Greyson is sick of digging at the Mine every day, as he receives no recognition.[23] He wants to use his strength to make a difference somewhere, if it is possible.[24]

When Link tells him that there is such a place, Greyson is interested and asks to hear more.[25] Though Greyson has never heard of Tarrey Town before,[26] he decides to take a chance.[27] He takes his little brother Pelison with him, and the pair leave the Southern Mine together.[28][29]

Once they have left, Link can return to Tarrey Town. Hudson is grateful that he was able to find Gorons to help him,[30] and he is pleased that their names abide by Bolson Construction policies.[31] He also informs Link that Pelison set up Ore and More to sell the ore found within the boulders.[32]

For his next task, Hudson requests 20 bundles of Wood for further construction on houses.[33] After they have been delivered, Hudson notes that his clothes have become worn and asks for Link to find a tailor.[34] He suggests looking among the Gerudo for such an individual.[35] Once again, he reminds Link of the Bolson Construction naming policy.[22]

At Kara Kara Bazaar, Link can find Rhondson sitting outside of the Kara Kara Bazaar Inn.[36] She has become exhausted by her search for a husband,[37] as no man she has met was able to appreciate a well-hemmed garment.[38] In addition, there is not much demand for a tailor in the area.[39] She wonders if there could truly be someone for her out there.[40]

When Link suggests she go to Tarrey Town, Rhondson asks to hear the details.[41] Despite its distance from Gerudo Town, Rhondson believes that she may need to travel to find herself a man.[42] She decides to start the journey so she can continue her search.[43] She thanks Link for the tip, before heading back home to pack her bag.[44]

After recruiting Rhondson, Link must travel back to Tarrey Town. Hudson is grateful that Link managed to find someone who fit his requirements.[45] He expresses admiration for Rhondson, as she patched up every hole in his clothes,[46] in addition to the fact that he name matches the naming policy.[47] Since her arrival, Rhondson has opened the Rhondson Armor Boutique to continue selling her clothing.[48]

Next, Hudson requests that Link bring him 30 bundles of Wood.[49] Once this Wood has been delivered back to Hudson, he will share that Tarrey Town is starting to look like a town, and therefore needs a General Store.[50] Therefore, he asks Link to keep an eye out for someone who would know about running a General Store.[51] When Link suggests a traveling trader, Hudson says that a Rito may be able to fill such a role.[52] He also reminds Link of the Bolson Construction naming policy once again.[22]

In Rito Village, Link can encounter Fyson, who has troubles aside from Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[53][54] His mother, Misa, wants him to take over The Slippery Falcon somday,[55] but he wants to open his own store instead.[56] However, he does not want to compete with his mother's business, and so he wishes to find somewhere else to set up his shop.[57]

When Link tells Fyson about Tarrey Town, he is intrigued and asks to hear more.[58] Though he is excited to hear that they need a General Store,[59] he is a bit worried about traveling to Akkala.[60] He reasons that he needs to leave the nest to open his own store,[61] and so he decides to head out.[62] On his way to Tarrey Town, he plans on gathering Items to sell at his new shop.[63] He thanks Link for the suggestion and invites him to come visit.[64]

Back at Tarrey Town, Hudson thanks Link for finding a Rito.[65] Fyson has already set up the Slippery Falcon (Tarrey Town Branch),[66] and Hudson approves of his name.[67] Hudson encourages Link to check out the store.[68]

Next, Hudson asks Link to bring him 50 bundles of Wood to make more houses.[69] Upon returning to Tarrey Town with the Wood, Hudson tells Link that he wants to share something personal.[70] He confesses to Link that he has gotten engaged to Rhondson.[71][72] To this end, he needs someone priest-like to officiate.[73] He suggests looking among the Zora for such a person.[74] For the final time, Hudson will remind Link of the naming policies of Bolson Construction.[22]

In Zora's Domain, Link can encounter the Zora, Kapson. Due to his advanced age,[75] Kapson would like one last opportunity to wed an engaged couple.[76] If Link shares the news of Hudson and Rhondson's upcoming wedding,[77] he expresses a desire to get there as quickly as possible.[78] He is confident in his ability to make it to Tarrey Town on his own.[79] Kapson leaves Zora's Domain, and he asks Link to come attend the wedding.[80]

When Link returns to Tarrey Town, the construction of the village will finally be complete. Hudson thanks Link for finding a Zora priest with a name that abides by the Bolson Construction policies.[81] For the wedding ceremony, Hudson would like Link to invite Bolson and Karson to Tarrey Town.[82]

At Hateno Village, Link can inform Bolson and Karson of the upcoming event.[83] Bolson decides to attend, as he does not have much to do in Hateno.[84] He beckons for Karson to follow him,[85][86] and the pair make their way to Tarrey Town.

Once the two have arrived in Tarrey Town,[87] Hudson asks Link if he is ready for the wedding to begin.[88] When Link agrees to start the wedding, he is transported behind Hudson and Rhondson as the pair stand in front of Kapson and the Goddess Statue.

Kapson begins the ceremony.[89] He asks Hudson if he will take Rhondson to be his wife,[90] which he accepts.[91] Kapson asks the same question of Rhondson,[92] but he adds on the promise to name any of their children in accordance with the Bolson Construction naming policies.[93]

Rhondson objects, claiming that these vows are untraditional.[94] Hudson however, is confused by her statement,[95] and Bolson stands to defend the policy.[96] Karson tries to talk Bolson down by explaining she meant a different kind of tradition,[97] but the rest of the Tarrey Town residents soon stand up in honor of it.[98][99][100] Hudson joins in,[101] and so Rhondson agrees.[102] Kapson declares the couple married and asks the town to join in celebrating them.[103]

After the wedding, Hudson will begin to cry as he thanks Link for attending.[104] He remarks that Tarrey Town finally looks like a real town.[105] To thank Link for everything he has done, Hudson gives him three Diamonds,[106] which were found in the boulders while clearing the land.[107][note 1] With this, the Side Quest is completed.

Objectives

Stage Description
1 Hudson, Bolson Construction's veteran carpenter, has departed for the Akkala region to expand the business.

Akkala is far to the north of Hateno Village. If you happen to be passing by, stop in and pay Hudson a visit.
2 You bumped into Hudson in the Akkala region, and it sounds like he plans on building a town as part of Bolson Construction's expanison. He even has a name picked out—it will be known as Tarrey Town. That said, he is missing a few things required to make a town.

You know, small things—like lumber.

Bring him 10 bundles of wood to get him started.
3 You brought Hudson enough wood to get him started, but now he needs to break the boulders scattered across the future site of Tarrey Town. He's asked you to find a Goron strong enough to help out.

According to the Bolson Construction hiring guidelines, you need to seek out a Goron whose name ends in "son." The guidelines are unusually specific about this.
4 Greyson the Goron has moved to Tarrey Town, and his younger brother Pelison tagged along for the ride.

Pay the town a visit to make sure they arrived safely, and check in with Hudson while you're there.
5 Greyson and Pelison arrived safely in Tarrey Town and got right to work. Greyson is breaking apart the boulders, and Pelison is selling the ore they find within.

Hudson wants to build some more buildings, but he needs more material. Twenty bundles of wood should hold him over for this next bunch of buildings.
6 You delivered more wood to Hudson.

But now he needs someone who can mend his work clothes. He wants you to find a Gerudo skilled at sewing, but remember the stipulation in the Bolson Construction hiring guidelines: the Gerudo's name must end in "son."
7 A Gerudo by the name of Rhondson has moved to Tarrey Town.

Pay the town a visit to make sure she arrived safely. Check in with Hudson while you're there.
8 Rhondson arrived safely in Tarrey Town and got right to work. She is not only mending work clothes—she also opened up an armor shop!

Hudson wants to build more buildings, but he's run out of materials once again.

Another 30 bundles of wood should cover him for now.
9 You brought Hudson more wood.

His next goal is to open up a general store and trade routes, and he thinks a Rito merchant would be perfect for the job.

Find a Rito with the know-how to manage a shop and the connections to set up trade, and of course, make sure his or her name ends in "son."
10 A Rito by the name of Fyson has moved to Tarrey Town to run the general store.

Pay the town a visit to make sure he arrived safely, and check in with Hudson while you're there.
11 Fyson arrived safely in Tarrey Town and put the experience he gained from running his family's shop to good use. He opened up a general store!

Hudson wants to build another batch of buildings, but he needs more material.

Bring him another 50 bundles of wood.
12 You brought Hudson enough wood!

And now, as it turns out, Hudson is engaged to Rhondson! Can you believe it?

They want to hold a ceremony, so he wants you to find a Zora who can officiate. Even though this Zora technically won't be working for Hudson's company, he would be much more comfortable if the Zora's name ended in "son."
13 A former Zora priest by the name of Kapson has moved to Tarrey Town!

Pay the town a visit to make sure he arrived safely and to see what other shenanigans Hudson has been up to. There's always something going on with that guy!
14 Kapson, a Zora and former priest, arrived safely in Tarrey Town and began making preparations for the wedding ceremony.

Hudson wants to invite Bolson and Karson to his wedding but he's too busy with preparations of his own. Go to Hateno Village to invite Bolson and Karson.
15 Bolson and Karson departed for Tarrey Town.

All that's left now is to return to the town yourself and enjoy Hudson and Rhondson's wedding ceremony!

Head back to the town and look for Hudson.
16 Hudson and Rhondson's wedding was a shining beacon in an otherwise dark, dangerous world.

Rhondson was a little taken aback by a few of the vows, but everything worked out fine and is in perfect compliance with Bolson Construction's guidelines.

It's only polite to give your blessing to the lovely couple who just vowed their undying love, so go talk to Hudson.
Complete Hudson and Rhondson are happily married, and Tarry Town is enjoying great prosperity.

As a sign of appreciation for bringing the town together and as compensation for your work, Hudson gave you a hefty amount of gems that were unearthed during the town's construction.

You wished the couple eternal happiness before heading on your way.

And his name is Kapson, so I have no objections there. It really is amazing that you were able to find someone priest-like who also had an acceptable name." — Hudson (Breath of the Wild)
  82. "Of course, we'll have to invite guests in order to hold a ceremony... [Guests?] Well, I'm talking about my boss, Bolson, and my subordinate, Karson. [I see.] However, I've got to prepare for the ceremony, so my hands are full... Could you invite them for me?" — Hudson (Breath of the Wild)

  94. "Wait a moment... Those vows are not traditional by anyone's standards!" — Rhondson (Breath of the Wild)
  95. "What makes you say that?" — Hudson (Breath of the Wild)

  105. "And now Tarrey Town looks like a real town at long last." — Hudson (Breath of the Wild)

  107. "These were found inside the boulders we smashed when we were clearing the land." — Hudson (Breath of the Wild)

  110. "I've been hearing clanging and banging by Lake Akkala. That's south of here. Why don't you go check it out?" — Nobo (Breath of the Wild)
  111. "If you're looking for Hudson the carpenter... He said something about building a village from the ground up. Then he headed off toward Lake Akkala. Lake Akkala is to the east of here. If you're curious, you should head over there." — Jana (Breath of the Wild)
  112. "Someone whose name ends with "son" who can also act as a priest...is what you seek?" — Gaddison (Breath of the Wild)
  113. "I'm sorry, Master Link... I am a blood-stained soldier. I could never be a priest." — Gaddison (Breath of the Wild)
  114. "But back in the domain, there is Kapson, who was a priest in the past. Kapson should be in the sleeping chamber. Why don't you go visit him?" — Gaddison (Breath of the Wild)
  115. "A Goddess Statue stands alone on an isle in Akkala. People have vowed to build a village around the sad, solitary statue. There must be something you can do to help them." — Gallery (Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity)
