Biography

Breath of the Wild

Essa is a Gerudo woman who works for Frelly at the Sand-Seal Rental Shop Southeast Booth in Gerudo Town. She can often be found sweeping the ground with her Broom. When Link speaks to Essa, she tells him that all of the Sand Seals there were trained by Frelly, making them faster and preventing them from abandoning the rider.[3] Wild Sand Seals, on the other hand, will run off when their rider dismounts them.[4] She feels that it is worth renting a trained Sand Seal, informing Link that Frelly puts her heart into training them.[5] Essa also reveals that Frelly trained the Sand Seals that are used in the Sand-Seal Races.[6]

If Link asks about the Sand-Seal Races, Essa explains that Sand-Seal Racing is a Gerudo tradition where people race around a course with a Sand Seal to see who is the fastest.[7] She tells Link to exit from the Southeast Gate of Gerudo Town and head to the right to find the Sand-Seal Rally.[8] Though it is off topic, she adds that Frelly has been talking strangely lately and wonders why.[9]

Essa's job at the Sand-Seal Rental Shop Southeast Booth is part-time.[10] Though it is difficult, she finds enjoyment in how happy the Sand Seals Sue, Nah, and Zarashi get when she puts out their food.[11] However, she admits to feeding them too much sometimes.[12]

At midnight, Essa considers her work for the day to be done.[13] With everything she does for the Sand Seals, the day just seems to fly away from her.[14] According to her, whenever she lays out food for the Seals, they rush over as quickly as they can to eat it.[15] If Link speaks to Essa while she is sleeping, she asks to be left alone.[16]

During the "EX Champion Urbosa's Song" Main Quest, Link can find Essa to the northwest of Gerudo Town with a group of wild Sand Seals. She explains that Frelly asked her to go recruit some wild Sand Seals.[17] While the Sand Seals in Gerudo Town are faster and will wait for the rider, Essa's wild Sand Seals will run away when dismounted.[18] She recommends renting a trained one, as she believes them to be worth it.[19] Link can use one of her Sand Seals to ride through the Glowing Rings in the West Barrens.
