Areas are a mechanic in Tri Force Heroes.[1]

Overview

Areas are the nine subdivisions of the Drablands, where the majority of Link's adventures take place in Tri Force Heroes. Each of the first eight Areas consists of four Levels and has a different geographical or elemental theme (ie. Forest, Water, Fire, etc.), with Enemies and obstacles to match that theme. The ninth Area is the Den of Trials, added in the Ver. 2.0.0 update, which consists of eight Zones based on the prior Areas.

The second and fourth Levels of a given Area conclude with battles against that Area's Mini-Boss and Boss, respectively. Defeating the Boss and thus clearing the fourth Level is the only requirement for "completing" an Area. Doing so makes Drablands Challenges available to play in that Area,[2] and may unlock subsequent Areas.

The first Area, the Woodlands, is the only one unlocked at the start of the game. When the Links gather inside Hytopia Castle and stand on the Triforce Gateway together, they are presented with the Level Selection screen, where the first step is to select an Area to visit. However, if the player is seeking "unknown heroes" for online play, they must select an Area before they are matched with other players. It is possible to play in an Area that has not been unlocked yet, if one of the other players selects it and then wins the roulette that determines the winning selection. That Area's name will then appear on the Level Selection screen, but it will remain locked until the requirements to unlock it are met.

  • Completing the Riverside, Volcano, and Ice Cavern unlocks the Fortress Area.
  • Completing The Dunes and The Ruins unlocks the Sky Realm Area.

Each time one of the Areas is unlocked, new Outfits become available for purchase at Madame Couture's. Link is informed of these developments through a Status Report when he returns from the Drablands.[4][5] During Download Play, the Outfits must be ordered from Madame Couture's Apprentice instead.
