Another similarity between SS Link and Fierce Diety

Surprised this didn't get a mention: SS Link can do sword beams in the form of Skyward Strikes which can be fired off in any direction depending on how the sword is held. In MM, Fierce Diety Link can fire very similar sword beams at opponents. This fact, combined with the fact that these are the only instances of sword beams in the 3D games, almost solidifies your theory that FD mask was based off of SS Link.
