The Yoshi Doll is the first item in the game's Trading Sequence. It is won as a prize from the Trendy Game in Mabe Village,[2] wherein Link must operate the game's claw and grab the Doll. Unlike the other item prizes in the Trendy Game Shop, the Yoshi Doll sits in the middle of the platform off of the conveyor belt.

The Yoshi Doll can b given to the Quadruplets' Mother in Mabe Village, who asks to give it to her baby.[3][4] In exchange, Link is given the Ribbon, the next item in the Trading Sequence.[2]
