Can you help me make a page?

I'm trying to make a Kazumi Totaka page, and I don't know where to start. Can you help me?Ankazar 18:54, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Given Totaka's limited relevance to Zelda, I don't think he would be a valid subject for an article on Zelda Wiki. That would be more Nintendo Wiki or Super Mario Wiki's domain. I went ahead and made the page a redirect to Nintendo Wiki's article on Totaka. Feel free to head on over there and edit the article if you have anything to add. :) — Hylian King [*] 19:22, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks. You did a wonderful job over there. I have nothing to add.Ankazar 20:30, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Templates

Does this site have warning templates like the Mario Wiki does, or do users have to type it out when they give people warnings? If not, then could I create these templates and upload them? It would make giving people warnings a lot easier. And also, how do you cross out text??

--TripleTriforce 20:39, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

P.S. This user should be blocked.........

Well, we do have Template:Howtoprev and a few similar templates for common newbie mistakes, but as for block warnings and such... I can't speak for the entire staff, but in my opinion, that kind of thing should be handled on a case by case basis (they happen rarely enough, anyway, and it's almost never the same thing twice). I believe problematic users should be addressed by an actual staff member as opposed to just being fed a canned message. I would think it's more likely to have an impact that way.
So personally I don't believe we need warning templates right now. I'll talk to the rest of the staff about it to see what they think. — Hylian King [*] 21:13, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What did they say? --TripleTriforce 23:30, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Odd Question

Is there anything I can do to help out concerning the vandalism that keeps happening? Can I mark content or users as inappropriate, or is my only option to contact you guys directly? Cause it is sad how fast the Recent Changes page is getting loaded with terrible content. :( Pixel 20:32, 12 February 2013 (ADT)

Sorry about that. :/ I appreciate that you want to help, though. If you want, you can tag the articles for deletion with Template:Delete. To be completely honest, though, that doesn't make much of a difference. The vandalism will be one of the first things an admin sees as soon as he/she gets online, whether they're tagged for deletion or not.
Now that I think of it, one thing you definitely CAN do to help is email me when a vandal pops up. I'll be able to see it on my smartphone most of the time so you might be able to get me online sooner if you do that. You could even text me if you wanted to. I'd be OK with giving you my number haha. — Hylian King [*] 02:55, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I didn't even know there was an email system through the wiki. X) I really could learn more about the things I can do here, I'm slowly working on it. As for the phone this, if you really wanted to I guess. I would sorta feel bad cause I don't always see them (or at least not before any off you), and I'm not very social. I don't even have people through Skype on here. X) Pixel 21:09, 12 February 2013 (ADT)
Bah, nonsense. Pretty sure we're all awkward penguins here (well, most of us, anyway). :P
Do what you feel. If you want to do the emailing thing, I'll appreciate it. If not, no worries. — Hylian King [*] 13:18, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry

Sorry for placing an off topic template. I didn't realize that conversation had to do with the wiki. --TripleTriforce 18:08, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No worries, please just be more careful next time. :) — Hylian King [*] 21:34, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Skyward Sword Item textures

This is a bit more complicated than sprite ripping but I made an attempt. These two images (Items, Collectables) are just from the beginning of the game, I need more time for the various updates (the sub menus, the flames and other quest items etc.) that appear during the game and the dowsing screen of course. But you can already place the different items in it and work something out for the template. Maybe you don't need all these screens, just share your vision with me and I will try to help you;-) --ShardofTruth 23:02, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Great! But uh... the links appear to be broken. All I'm getting when I click them is an HTTP error. :( — Hylian King [*] 23:51, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sorry to butt into your conversation but the links are working just fine. It may be something wrong with your connection. ?_? --User:Shadow Reaper/sig 00:19, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
More links: http://i.imgur.com/K4Vng4a.png http://i.imgur.com/G7lXt2p.png I hope these work for you. --ShardofTruth 00:31, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Awesome, I can't thank you enough!
To be honest, I haven't thought much farther than the basic inventory circle. It's been a while since I've played SS so I don't really remember what items appear where. I'll pick it up and refresh my memory when I have the time. Soooo that said, there really isn't really much of a vision worth sharing at the moment. Feel free to take over the entire project if you feel so inclined. :P
The first links are working fine now. Odd. — Hylian King [*] 01:01, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Last update for today: All quest items with tablet All quest items with Triforce I have to check my savegame backups for the swords and the different items and their quantities. I can't really remember all these items either. :P--ShardofTruth 01:38, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, this is the final inventory screen with every item maxed out.
I checked my backup savegames and they are quite lacking, so I will have to play through some portions of the game again to get a complete dowsing screen, the non-upgraded items and the place of some quest items like the Life Tree Fruit. This will take a little while though because I borrowed my Wiimote and the game is almost impossible to play without it.--ShardofTruth 16:47, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Alright, sick. Having the dowsing menu eventually would be a plus, but this is definitely good enough for starters. :)
I wouldn't worry too much about all the item upgrades. As long as we have one version of each item like we do, it's all we really need for the navigation template because the various upgrades are on the same wiki pages anyway (except for the Goddess Sword and Master Sword, so that one would be needed.) — Hylian King [*] 12:45, 24 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just curious

I'm just curious on one thing I can understand removing ganon from his own line in on the Bosses of Wand of Gamelon page but is there a reason Dark Link has his own line on the Bosses in Zelda II page? That was the source material for aiding the editing process and the reason Ganon got his own line. --User:Shadow Reaper/sig 16:18, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

I understand. I know some other pages do it that way, so it's not like you did it "wrong" or anything. I personally don't think it's necessary, that's all. I'll go ahead and change the Zelda II page right now. :P — Hylian King [*] 16:21, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's cool I just wasn't sure if it was a size thing or a canon issue. I'm doing another gallery of sprites for Faces of Evil soon so I wanted to see what was what before hand. :) --User:Shadow Reaper/sig 16:24, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
OK. :) Also, Dark Link is appearing on the same line for me. You probably just have a more narrow screen than I do, so the Dark Link image gets pushed onto the next line for you. That's just how our galleries work, it wasn't done deliberately. — Hylian King [*] 16:28, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Long overdue apology

I am extremely sorry for my behavior using the other accounts I created. I have stopped vandalizing and trolling for good now, and I will never do these kinds of things again.

What did the rest of the staff say about the warning templates? --TripleTriforce 23:46, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We're all on the same page about it. We feel like people should be hearing from an actual staff member in these situations and at the moment we're willing to oblige. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, but we're quite alright with the way things are now. :) — Hylian King [*] 23:49, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Would this be good...

Sorry in advance for the size of this section; I was wondering if this would be good for a featured photo nomination. I don't know how to make this smaller, so again, Sorry! File:Screen Shot 2013-03-12 at 4.33.27 PM.pngAnkazar 02:11, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Caleb is currently on vacation, but I'd say that's a great candidate for a featured pic. Feel free to nominate it here!User:Justin/sig 03:50, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the info! Ankazar 19:37, 15 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Actually, that image looks like it's fan art, and I'm pretty sure that we don't allow unofficial art to be Featured Pictures. User:Pakkun/sig 00:32, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Tiny bit too late there. Ankazar 03:18, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

To the contrary, my response preceded my edit to the Feature Pictures page by several hours. User:Pakkun/sig 09:47, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

I meant that it had been up for a while before you added that comment.Ankazar 04:17, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Slight complication...

I made my signature today, and I noticed that there were these bars there. What should I do to get rid of them?Ankazar 03:15, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

You mean the brackets [like this]? If so, you literally just have to remove them from the coding surrounding the <span> tags. User:Pakkun/sig 09:47, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

I have a question, if someone sighed up, but didn't get a e-mail address confirmation, then what do they do? Mindy 00:04, 20 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Go to Special:ConfirmEmail and click the button to have an activation code re-sent. If the email address was entered incorrectly, you can correct the error in Special:Preferences. Hope this helps!User:Justin/sig 00:11, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

What if the email address is correct, but they still haven't got the email address confirmation? Mindy 01:04, 20 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If you're editing, it should mean you've already confirmed your email. You wouldn't be able to edit in the first place if you hadn't; the wiki software wouldn't allow it. Are you trying to change your email, is that it? — Hylian King [*] 11:39, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No, trying to help a friend. Mindy 15:58, 27 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Never mind. Sorry for being so confusing. Mindy 16:35, 27 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Translates

HK, if I come across any empty English name translation, is it cool to Google Translate them to fill in the gaps, or are they too generic to be adequately correct? --Smighty 10:07, 20 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Never use Google Translate. It's incredibly inaccurate.User:Justin/sig 17:52, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, I wouldn't say never, but yeah, relying on Google Translate alone for anything but the simplest translations is probably not the best idea. I would recommend using bilingual dictionaries as much as possible. Also, many of our Translations pages have an English translation on-hover over the foreign names, so you can check that too.
If all the foreign names have a translation that's the same as the English name, you can just leave out the "Meanings" field entirely. Otherwise it's just repetitive. — Hylian King [*] 00:04, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Gotcha, no repeats and Bilingual Dictionaries > Google Translate, except in the simpliest of translations. I doubt I'll really need to know what to do, but i thought id better check the protocol. Thanks guys --Smighty 00:34, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ratings

Rating organisations
  • "Game Software Rating Management Regulations" (遊戲軟體分級管理辦法; Taiwan / Republic of China) rated OoT3DS as 6+
  • DEJUS (Brasil, en.wp) rated some Zelda games as 10
  • Now I'd guess it's this way: The Classification Board (CB, also known as Australian Classification Board (ACB) though as far as I can see it does not call itself that way) was found in 1995 and was subordinated to the OFLC. In 2005 the CB changed it's ratings (the end of video game ratings like G 8+ and the start of using PG etc. for video games). In 2007 the OFLC ceased to exist, but CB didn't. On 1.1.2013 the rating "R 18+", which already was in use for films, was added as a possible video game rating. Also CB kind of "converted" their prior/in 2005 ratings to in/after 2005 ratings. Sources/Indications:
    • When searching for older games the rating shown next to it is a in/after 2005 rating, but reading in rating report prior/in 2005 ratings are used
    • CB: "The Classification Board is established under the Classification Act 1995"
    • CB: "[...] (the OFLC) ceased to exist [...] on 1 July 2007. The policy and operational functions of the OFLC were transferred to the Attorney-General’s Department. Decisions are still made by the Classification Board [...]."
    • Classification Act (using the "ComlawId"s here): "C2013C00001" first mentions R 18+ for video games, "C2005C00359" first has PG etc. for video games put under Part 2, Division 1, Point 7, the Classification Act has 1995 in the name and OFLC ceased to exist when "C2007C00387" came out (though maybe not by this act).
  • OFLC (NZ): censorship.govt.nz IMHO sounds like that a video game which wasn't restricted or banned in UK and Australia does not need to be rated/labeled by the OFLC (NZ). Thus it wouldn't surprise, if/that they didn't rate any Nintendo game.
Possibilities for Template:Game
  • Game Software Rating Management Regulations (GSRMR) could be added, but adding it for just one game?
  • DEJUS could be added (, even though the DEJUS page (IMHO) is a bit irritating..)
  • OFLC and ACB could be fused to CB, I guess, and as there is no need for OFLC (NZ), OFLC could be removed. CB's rating might sometimes look like "G 8+ / G" though.
Possibilities for Template:Names
  • As OoT3DS was released in Taiwan (title: "塞尔达传说 时光之笛 3D") etc., Chinese could be added.
Just BTW
  • About Rolling Bones: "Knochenwalze" (the spiked roller) and "Mini-Boß" (traditional German spelling, accourding to a reform reform it would be "Boss" now) are said to be used in a German guide book. Both put together as "Miniboss mit der Knochenwalze" (which would be like "mini-boss with the spiked roller") is unofficial though.

Alright, well thanks for the clarification. I thought the name sounded a little... dubious.
As for all the rest, I promise to give it my time as soon as I can. I would right now if I could, but it's Friday afternoon and my brain is shutting down, so I'm afraid I'm rather useless at the moment. :P — Hylian King [*] 21:54, 26 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Email

I know I'm being annoy, but...can Zelda wiki send email address confirmations to...Inbox.com? Or do you have to be sighed up with Yahoo! or something? Template:Nosig

Nothing wrong with asking questions, Mindy! It's not annoying at all.
MediaWiki should be able to support most email services. I've never tried inbox.com so I couldn't tell you for sure, but it should work.
By the way, when starting new conversations on a talk page, please click "Add topic" instead of "Edit". That way everything stays nice and organized, avoiding mix-ups between convos. And don't forget to sign your posts! — Hylian King [*] 21:45, 27 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Hero of Hylia here, this will be the first thing I put up here, the first of many, I hope. Oh, and about Hero of Hylia, that's me too, I tried to get up there once quiet a while back, but I couldn't use Zelda Wiki with Inbox.com, so I had to change the E-Mail password, and then change some of my name (I added "The" to my name, I actually like my user name better this way anyway). So, are there any pages that I could help with or anything, because I don't want to have gone through all of that trouble just to sit back while everyone else dose the heavy lifting, ;). The Hero of Hylia 02:32, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

On damage....

Okay here's my issue with "damage". Its so generic of a possible page that I see no real use for it what so ever. Being a vidoe game encyclopedia that ZW is I can fully understand needing to cover a number of things but damage? That would be best for the Zelda Definitions page if we used it at all. And then if we did create such a page what do we fill it with: Link falls down a hole, he gets hurts, Link gets stabbed, he gets hurt, ect. Thats my issue, I bring this up because a while back we had a user creating pages for things like "eyes" and "stairs" that had little to any room for growth but damage has absoultly no room outside of a general description and a list of ways of how Link can injure himself. --User:Shadow Reaper/sig 15:34, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

I am writing an article on Link's most basic abilities because nothing like it exists. There are a few pages like, well, I suppose you saw the Autojump article, and there is also the Roll Attack article, but no one covers Running, Walking, and Swimming in their totality. It may seem like there is no need for articles like this, but are many things that can be said about these sorts of topics. It is all dependent on details. There may be a lot more to say about damage than what you immediately realize. All I ask is that you please try to be open-minded. Also, falling down holes and getting stabbed, great, I will add that to the list. Noble Wrot 20:47, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
