Images Uploaded

Hi there. Thank you for your recent image contributions, however, we are still experiencing technical difficulties regarding image thumbnails showing up. If you could please refrain from uploading in the meantime, that would be appreciated. :) This issue should be fixed soon.User:Mandi/sig 15:24, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I saw that uploading was re-enabled and got a bit carried away. --Petenu 15:33, 29 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keep an eye on the main page for the announcement saying the issue is fixed. And when you add "|frame" to an image, add a caption to it as well. Thanks for the image work tho, we really would like many more. User:Axiomist/sig 21:49, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Yep, I think I've managed to get my head around the syntax for including images now. Thanks for going gentle on the newbie :) --Petenu 10:10, 30 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It seems to be working now. User:Axiomist/sig 01:11, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Yup. The issues seem to be fixed now! Feel free to upload :)User:Mandi/sig 03:32, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Great Work

Just wanted to say good job with all of your recent edits and image editing, I'm impressed. :) Two things to quickly mention. Firstly, try to make picture captains explain the individual image, instead of just being the title of the article. Secondly, when you upload transparent images, and flag the old version for deletion, can you please link to the new version in your message on the file's talk page. Makes my job easier. ;) Keep up the good work. User:Melchizedek/sig 11:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Both suggestions are more than reasonable. Will do. --User:Petenu/sig 18:10, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
I should have mentioned it originally, but when you're adding the new version of the image to the talk page of the one to be deleted, instead of coding it so the image actually appears on the page, you can just link to it, by placing a colon before the filename. Take this coding for example: :File:Octorok ALttP.gif, which produces a simple link like this: File:Octorok ALttP.gif. User:Melchizedek/sig 12:11, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm agreeing to the Great Work comment, but I must say, creating a talk page for an image to be deleted doubles the number of pages to delete. It might save us both the trouble if you used the same name for the newer versions a clicked on replace Image. Another option is to just make the comments on the image page to be deleted itself rather than creating its discussion page. It's not really a big deal, but would help reduce clutter in the Recent Changes. Thanks again for your contributions. :) User:Axiomist/sig 12:36, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm keeping the same filename where I can, but most of these requests for transparent backgrounds are on JPEGs, so they need to be converted to PNG.
I agree with your suggestion about putting comments on the image page rather than creating a discussion page - I'm very conscious of how much Recent Changes clutter this process creates, so the more that can be avoided, the better. --User:Petenu/sig 12:48, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for helping and agreeing to make it a simpler streamlined process, sorry if we sound like we are nagging...lol We don't mean to. User:Axiomist/sig 12:51, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Nonono, no apology necessary. So far, your suggestions have been nothing but helpful. --User:Petenu/sig 12:55, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

I see you took the time to cut the interface of the Library Key screenshot. I appreciate that. I'm choosing you as my go-to guy for screenshot work now! Do you need me to keep placing them in the Image Requests Gallery or do you plan to seek and destroy all on your own? User:Axiomist/sig 15:08, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. You might as well keep putting them in the image requests, though it's generally not necessary to list each image individually - for example, almost every page linked from Dungeons_in_The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Oracle_of_Seasons has an image that needs a bit of love, so it's probably enough to just link to that page.
Incidentally, I've just started playing Oracle of Ages so I'm going to try to remember to grab lots of screenshots as I'm going through. --User:Petenu/sig 15:20, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Hey I made this Template:PHmap, I wanted to bring it to your attention. I tried to get it all done without bothering you about ha ha. But since I drew all of the islands with the mouse...and just kinda squared off the plot points, I figured to see if you'd change anything.User:Axiomist/sig 07:03, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Seems to work great to me. There'd be no benefit to going crazy defining polygonal areas around each island, that I can see. User:Petenu/sig 07:39, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

OoS Nav

You did a smashing job with this! I'm quite in awe! :3Justin(Talk) 01:54, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, thanks for fixing up those plot points. I'll get on the Subrosia one pronto. User:Axiomist/sig 02:28, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Note on Background Transparencies

You continue to do a great job with all your image editing. Hopefully this catches your attention, before you get back to work, as there is one point that I need to draw your attention to. This is taken from the ZW Quality Standards for Images:

"Images without background transparency need to have their backgrounds removed, but this must be done to a quality that leaves smooth edges with no strokes, and leave no traces of any background."

Whilst what you're doing is in improvement to the original images, for the future, instead of rendering the images to have strokes, as here, please edit them to have no trace of any background, glow or stroke, as this image demonstrates. Keep up the good editing. Thanks. User:Melchizedek/sig 11:18, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I must admit to not having read the quality standards - I just saw a lot of images on the site with "strokes" and assumed that it was acceptable. User:Petenu/sig 12:23, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
No problem. :) User:Melchizedek/sig 06:20, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
I was wondering if you realized that if you are working on an image you don't need to put it in the image requests. If it's convenient for you to do that, you may, but if you think it's a hassle... User:Axiomist/sig 01:23, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I'm aware of that. There have been a couple of occasions when I've added an image to the requests page and then started working on it immediately, but on those occasions, I'm as surprised by it as anyone else. User:Petenu/sig 06:51, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Skype

Hey, I'm not sure whether you're familiar with the program Skype. It's a shareware instant messaging program, and Zelda Wiki uses it as a place where its contributors and editors can discuss things about the wiki while they're editing, ask for help, or just have a general chat. I think you'd benefit from it, and we'd love to have you join. Read the Skype page for more details. User:Melchizedek/sig 06:33, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the invitation. Haven't used IM in a while, so it probably won't happen, but I'll certainly keep it in mind. User:Petenu/sig 14:28, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Well, you're welcome anytime. :) User:Melchizedek/sig 23:31, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Merge

Hey, there. I know you're a mergist, so head on over to Talk:Cyclops Reef to put in your two cents about merging the X-Eye Reefs from Wind Waker.Justin(Talk) 03:11, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Images for Templates

Hey I was wondering if you could trim File:Kinstones2.png to just show the blue and red Kinstones. I was thinking to use that for the Template:Merge image instead of default MediaWiki arrows. And File:FSA - Links.png a pairing of the Links might make a decent image for a few :D The blue and purple Links have their legs covered which would require some artistry. But the red and green Links could immediately replace the Fire Rod page image. User:Axiomist/sig 16:42, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Kinstones and Links - there you go. User:Petenu/sig 16:57, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
I appreciate that. I don't get to use em now, *going to work* but I'll get to it :p User:Axiomist/sig 17:00, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
3 requests with this one :P Firstly the transparency, Secondly, I see some potential in this image as a potential navmap for AoL. Let me know your thoughts on that. Another thing we might be able to do is get crops of it for artwork of the specific sections on the relevant pages. (Btw, pixel by pixel I trimmed borders in the LA one, you may change it to how you'd prefer it) User:Axiomist/sig 07:55, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
I've done the transparency. I think it's too big for a navmap though, and if we shrunk it down, the text would be too small to be legible. It's not really a very good quality image - the original scan was clearly at a fairly low DPI, and it's been encoded to JPEG with a really high compression ratio. If someone could re-scan the manual at a much higher DPI, and save it as a PNG, then your idea of using a crop of each area on each page would be a goer. User:Petenu/sig 08:33, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh, and thanks for doing the LA map - it looks perfect. User:Petenu/sig 09:48, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Wouldn't it also be possible to use the in-game map? Though I'd imagine that the quality would also be quite bad if it was shrunken... The Goron Moron 08:55, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Is this the map you mean? User:Petenu/sig 09:47, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that's the map. The Goron Moron 19:01, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've moved the conversation over here, as my talk page doesn't seem like the most appropriate place. User:Petenu/sig 19:16, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Imdel

Okay, here's what I've managed to do. If the file has a valid talk page, it will create the link to it. If it doesn't, the word "talk" won't even show up in the thing! I need to find out how to fix this coding problem. Can you help out by testing out some stuff to see if it works? Don't save anything, though. Just preview and preview and preview some more. If you get it right, save it. But don't take out the link to the file talk or delete anything. Just add. Okay?Justin(Talk) 15:09, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I reckon I might have got to the root of this one. :File:Mm-hookshot.gif and :File:Zoraflippers.jpg are both giving the desired results. User:Petenu/sig 15:11, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Egad! You've done it! Good work, fine sir!Justin(Talk) 15:11, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The syntax makes sense now. I've put some line breaks into the template - it doesn't affect the way that it is parsed, or the output, but it does make it much easier to figure out how it flows. User:Petenu/sig 15:17, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

A favor

Hey, sorry to bother you with this, but can you do me a favor by taking my avatar off of my forums and upload it here? I want to stick it in my usernav, but I can't upload things because we lost our computer and I'm limited to my Wii. Again, sorry to bother you with it, but I'd appreciate it greatly.Justin(Talk) 15:15, 25 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

comme ci? User:Petenu/sig 15:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much :)Justin(Talk) 15:18, 25 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Y'know...

I kind of miss the red link to your userpage now. Your sig is awesome by the way. :D User:Aerostella/sig 01:45, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

To be honest, so do I! And I'm the one that killed it! You should make your name the color of the redlinks!Justin(Talk) 02:21, 27 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
*Nods gravely* I guess you don't know what you got, till it's gone. Lesson here, kids. User:Petenu/sig 06:45, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Hey, I just want to say thanks for all your image work. You've gotten a lot better at making images transparent and its really helped me out. I have a lot of decent quality scans of old material at my website, Zelda Dungeon, that I'm going through ever so slowly. However, simply uploading them here and allowing others to help with the transparency really helps my website, while also keeping quality images at the Wiki. Anyway, just thought I'd say thanks and your work is much appreciated. Mases 16:23, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You're welcome. It's been a learning experience for me too, accumulating new tricks and techniques, and figuring out how to solve new problems as they arise. The only downside is that in the quest for perfection, each image takes longer to do! User:Petenu/sig 16:28, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Merge talk

Check this out. I made a template for merge talk.

To use it, type Reasons for merging, etc.~~~~ (You have to add the tildes to sign only your text and not after the whole deal.)

It can make this:

This page needs a merge with this other page.Justin(Talk) 20:48, 3 December 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nice. What do you think of the artwork and styles that I was trialling here? Or is it not worth going to that much effort for just a merge discussion? User:Petenu/sig 21:56, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I know I'm not involved with this template creation, but I think the new support/oppose that Petenu made is SWEET. I'm for it. User:Cipriano 119/sig 22:18, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I like the one Pete made too. It looks awesome for an informal voting system as opposed to the Featured Content voting. User:Axiomist/sig 23:02, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Code that here. It's the shiz :3Justin(Talk) 04:50, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
