The Zelda Barcode Battler is a bit of merchandise so elusive that many of even the most dedicated fans have never heard of it. It reached Pokemon level popularity in Japan, but never caught on in America.

The Barcode Battler was created by Epoch and distributed by Tomy. It's a hand-held device that's used to scan barcodes on cards. Using those barcodes, you can play a battle game alone or against a friend.

Originally, the game used generic characters, but later Nintendo allowed them to use Link and enemies from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
