Template:Spoiler Template:Character Telma (テルマ, Teruma) is a woman in Twilight Princess who owns a bar in Castle Town.[1] She also has a cat named Louise, and both of them play a key role in the game as they help Link during his quest.

Biography

Telma is known to be a kind yet brave woman who looks after Ilia when she takes the injured Zora Prince Ralis to her bar.[2] She tries her hardest to help Ilia and the wounded Zora, sending for the doctor in hopes of calming Ilia down.[3] After Link comes back to the bar as a human and finds Ilia, he arrives just at the time that the doctor refuses to treat Prince Ralis, saying that Zoras are beyond his expertise.[4] Telma is then reminded of a shaman in Kakariko Village who has treated both Zoras and Gorons, and after the Hylian Soldiers cowardly refuse to escort them to the Eldin Province, Telma notices that Link is up to the task.[5][6]

Upon meeting Link, Telma and the young hero become fast friends as they both work together to get Ilia and Prince Ralis to Kakariko Village safely. She takes a special liking to Link, calling him "honey" (although she refers to Ilia like that also) and often winking and jokingly flirting with him.[7] Link successfully leads Telma's caravan to Kakariko Village, where she properly introduces herself and compliments Link's skills, asking if he's thinking of putting them to use for Hyrule.[8] Telma also mentions that she's a member of a group who are trying to do what they can to make Hyrule become a better place.[9] It is also here in Kakariko Village that Telma shows to have a crush on Renado[10][11]; however, the shaman does not seem all that fond of her in return, stating at one point that he "cannot abide her company."[12]

Later on in the game, Link can return to Telma's Bar, where a group of four adventurers sit at a table and try to figure out about the different things happening around Hyrule. The table also contains a map which labels where Link finds the dungeons housing the Mirror of Twilight shards. Telma is of crucial help to Link's quest: first by displaying great bravery in driving the caravan to Kakariko in order to aid Prince Ralis, and later by giving him an invoice to show the doctor, which will ultimately help Ilia recover her memory.[13]

Telma also seems to have a rather low opinion of the Hylian Soldiers, more than once stating how ineffective and cowardly they are (the soldiers run away once they hear about a path that was infested with monsters).[14][15][16]

She is last seen during the ending credits tending to her bar as the Hyrule Soldiers cheer for the safety of the kingdom.

Theory

It is noted that she strongly resembles the Gerudo women of past titles. Like the Gerudo of the past, Telma has red hair and jewelry on her face possibly hinting that the reason for their absence from Twilight Princess is that they integrated with the Hylian culture. This is purely speculation, however, as the Gerudos could simply be in a deeper part of the desert that is unexplored in the game.

Trivia

Telma and her cat's name strongly resemble the title of the movie Thelma & Louise, which is most likely a little joke Nintendo made to probably deem the two as inseparable.
