The Swordsman's School,[1] also known as the Mighty Training Center,[2] is a location in Majora's Mask.

Overview

The school is located in West Clock Town. It is operated by the Swordsman and is open 24 hours.[3]

The Swordsman does not physically participate in training sessions. Rather, he raises logs from out of the floor to serve as targets. He remains sitting cross-legged on a raised platform at far end of the hall. To his left is a Cow Figurine, to his right a gong that yields a Blue Rupee when struck exactly on the hour or the half-hour.[citation needed]

Behind the Swordsman is a trophy shelf and a wooden placard. Destroying the placard reveals a secret room behind it. There are 5 Pots in the secret room containing a total of 25 Rupees—one Blue Rupee in each.[verification needed]

After midnight on the Final Day, there is a Sign where the Swordsman usually sits. It reads, "I'll be on vacation for a short while. Please don't look for me." During that time, the Swordsman is in fact cowering in a corner of the secret room.[4]

Courses

The Swordsman's School offers two Sword Training courses:

  • Novice Course, a tutorial which costs 1 Rupee.
  • Expert Course, a Mini-Game which costs 10 Rupees.

Novice Course

The Novice Course is a Sword-fighting tutorial. To complete it, Link must perform the following moves in order: Sideways Jump, Roll Attack, Backflip, Horizontal Cut, Vertical Cut, Thrust, Jump Attack.

Expert Course

The Expert Course is a Mini-Game where Link earns points by slashing logs. Two logs emerge at a time from a semi-circular group of six holes in the floor, and retract into the holes if not sliced after five seconds. Link earns three points for slicing a log lengthwise with a Jump Attack, and a single point for every other attack.[verification needed] There is a Piece of Heart reward for earning 30 points by slicing all 10 logs with the Jump Attack.

Nomenclature

The Japanese name of the Swordsman's School, 剣道場, is inscribed on a placard at the back of the hall. In Majora's Mask 3D, this name is also inscribed in Hylian on a sign above where the Swordsman sits.
