Pigs first appear in The Wind Waker. They are animals that behave similarly to Cuccos.

Sneaking up behind pigs is a great way to catch them

In The Wind Waker, pigs are generally peaceful animals that struggle in vain when picked up. They come in three varieties: pink, black, and pink with black spots. The easiest way to pick up a pig is to sneak up to it. An alternative would be to chase it into the water and wait for it to come back to shore, where Link can pick it up before it starts running away. Pigs love to eat, and if they are fed All-Purpose Bait, they might dig into the ground and release some rupees and items. If a pig is attacked too many times, it turns red in anger and relentlessly retaliates against Link. If there are any nearby pigs, they will also attack him, much like the Cucco's Revenge Squad. The pigs will stop chasing Link if he enters a building or goes to a place where they can't reach him, like on top of a high object or in a body of water.

After returning to Outset Island from his quest at Greatfish Isle, Link finds that one of the pigs has grown immensely. This pig can be provoked as well, and it will deal out three hearts of damage if Link is hit by it, which is more damage than Ganondorf can deal. If Link has the Power Bracelets, he can pick the pig up and carry it, but will walk as though he is wearing the Iron Boots. This pig can also swim, and it is possible to throw it behind a rock and pin it there.

Spirit Tracks

Main article: Moink

In Spirit Tracks, pig-like creatures known as Moinks are occasionally spotted while riding the Spirit Train.

Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love

In Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love, the Save Pig is what allows Tingle to save the game. At least one Save Pig will appear on each of the 14 Pages, but there will occasionally be more, such as on pages 6, 7, 8, and 11.

Non-canon Appearances

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the pigs are seen as both part of a victory pose of Toon Link's and as a trophy as well as a sticker.

Trophy Information

Game Image Description How to Unlock
Super Smash Bros. Brawl File:Pigs Trophy.png Cute creatures that roam the land. They are usually pink or black but are also sometimes patterned or even miniature. Perhaps due to their timid natures, they tend to run away when approached. To catch them, you need to creep towards them ever so slowly. Throwing them in the water will reveal that they can swim back to the shore, not by "doggy-paddling" but by "piggy-paddling". Random

Trivia

  • One of the pigs on Windfall Island is rather gassy when Link picks it up, with little green clouds coming out of its rear.
  • If more than one pig is placed in Abe's pen at the start of the game there will only be one in there later on. If you go inside Abe's house, the owners of the pigs admits to eating the other pigs.[1]
