Monster Strongholds,(BotW | TotK)[1][2] also known as Enemy Bases,(BotW)[3] are recurring locations in The Legend of Zelda series.[name references needed] Monster Strongholds go unnamed in Skyward Sword.

Features and Overview

Skyward Sword

Monster Strongholds are encampments scattered throughout the Eldin Volcano in the Eldin Province in Skyward Sword. They are usually inhabited by Red Bokoblins who live in crude tents, though Moblins can also appear. Monster Strongholds typically have towers occupied by Red Bokoblin sentries who watch for intruders and alert the inhabitants when one is spotted. These towers can be toppled with Bombs, dispatching the sentries atop them.

After Eldin Volcano erupts, Red Bokoblins occupy the entire mountain, converting it into one massive Monster Stronghold. Monster Strongholds can be found east of Volcano East, outside the entrance to the Thrill Digger Mini-Game, and east of the Temple Entrance.

Later in the game, all of the Monster Strongholds are abandoned, so Kortz decides to take residence inside one of the huts,[4][5][6] while Merco can be found outside, wondering what Red Bokoblins eat.[7]

Breath of the Wild

Monster Strongholds are distributed throughout Hyrule in Breath of the Wild. They come in many forms, but the most common are wooden platforms surrounding Trees and large skull-shaped rocks. Strongholds may contain Barrels, Bomb Barrels, and Treasure Chests. Outpost Chests are commonly found in skull-shaped Monster Strongholds and can only be opened when all Enemies in the Stronghold are defeated.

Tears of the Kingdom

Monster Strongholds appear throughout Hyrule and are often guarded by Aerocudas. Additional types of Monster Stronghold also appear, with various purposes. Battle Taluses function as mobile Monster Strongholds, while larger Monster Forts are stationed in various areas and provide protection from all sides. Pirate Ships are used by Monsters to assail Hyrule's waterways and are protected from ground assaults due to their positions in water.
